The former.
I hope Michigan stays with adidas because going through another transition would be annoying. Usuaully those things are announced a year before it actually goes into place.
That'd give me enough time to transition the plain stuff like normal socks, shoes and boxers to whoever the next outfitter would be before the big changes happen.
It'd just suck to have to get all new jerseys for Football/Basketball/Hockey as well as new shirts for each sport to replace the adidas ones. I'd obviously still keep all the adidas Michgan stuff. They just wouldn't be in active use.
I'm so adidas'd up, there's days everything on my body is made by adidas--including my backpack and the lanyard on my keys!

I like some of the track suit and light jackets. Outside of that, I don't really pay attention to the gear. I like simple designs though. Like an all blue jacket with just a Block M or Blue shirt with Block M. Like the addidas stripes on the pants though.

Adidas is great making soccer gear, I know my daughter loves all her Adidas stuff (Under Armor for keeping warm), but I've never been too impressed with their football gear. I'd love to see Michigan go back to Nike gear (still got my Nike jersey ffrom the 1997 season) or even switch to Under Armor.

If vetted true it would be a big PR problem and tough to explain away.
If false it would let a lot of steam out of the "movement" since it would be an obvious smear tactic based on low standards. Torch and pitchfork is cool on the internet since everyone's a tough guy but this is real life business organizations we are talking about.

The law doesn't require the public agency to retain email forever, so it's possible that the email was deleted prior to the FOIA request.
