Grantland: Would Jim Harbaugh Really Leave the 49ers for Michigan?
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/would-jim-harbaugh-really-leave-the-4…
Nothing really new but I hadn't heard the Cleveland trade was a in place before Harbaugh nixed it. Hopefully his unhappiness in SF, fondness for AA, and control freak tendencies coalesce into a happy ending for Michigan Football.
Side note: the author of this article looks at most 14 years old

You mean in the event that he gets fired for his involvement in the ever broadening all-purpose NFL scandal? Why else would a recently Super Bowl winning coach leave?
And if that is the reason he makes more sense than Jim, I'd think that that heat might make Michigan a little wary.

Right, I'm saying Michigan won't want him if he's fired for the Rice fiasco.
September 26th, 2014 at 12:52 PM ^
The feeling I get is that John Harbaugh was the good guy in the episode, and it was the GM/owner who kept Rice around, when Harbaugh wanted to get rid of him. That's just what I remember from half-paying attention to some of the articles, so I could be way off.
As for the impact on Michigan, it's possible that Harbaugh would leave the Ravens because he doesn't want to be involved with that situation anymore. Obviously he, like Jim, would be the hottest NFL coaching candidates around, but since John has already won a Super Bowl, and his family apparently lives in Michigan...I can see why people think it's plausible. But even less likely than Jim coming here, I would say.
September 26th, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
I guess. I mean, it's true that the heat has been primarily on Goddell and more recently the Ravens' owner, Harbaugh doesn't seem to catch nearly as much flack for his involvement (whatever that may have or may not have been).
September 26th, 2014 at 2:54 PM ^
lobbied to have Rice released immediately after the first video was released back in April. If that's true, there's not much reason for the heat to be focused on him.

If you look closely, you can tell that that's photoshopped.

I don't see it.

You must not believe.

If he was willing to take on the tire fire that is the Cleveland Browns (which I say lovingly as a Browns fan), then maybe there's no place so terrible he wouldn't consider.
September 26th, 2014 at 12:13 PM ^
Cleveland is more of a small fire these days. Very close to breaking out and gaining some traction. I say that also as a Browns fan.
September 26th, 2014 at 12:15 PM ^
But when Harbaugh was orchestrating(!) a move to Cleveland, they had just fired their coach after one season and things seemed grim at best.
September 26th, 2014 at 12:39 PM ^
Michigan is a small fire too. We are not in the spot we were when RR took over. We have lots of talent on both sides of the ball and will be returning possibly 11 starters on offense. The right coach should be drooling over that.

THE MICHIGAN FOOTBALL TEAM will be going 12-2 and will not need the services of a new head football coach. Thanks for coming, see you next year.

He believes he would get better quality players in the other divisions. I think he believes he can out recruit most other coaches.

No. The answer is no.

Rather have John

I mean, I could see him constructing purposely unsound game plans just to keep things interesting. (In all likelihood, they’d be used against Kirk Ferentz.) (CORRECTION: They’d definitely be used against Kirk Ferentz.)
While it would be amusing to see someone like Harbaugh get Ferentz to shout, "You're going to punt? HERE? WHO DOES THAT?", I don't see where there is a realistic chance that it ever happens with him wearing a block "M" hat on the sideline. I suppose I don't see where the continued musing on this topic is more than mere click generation right now.

Hoke said it himself, this will to be a good football team. Who needs Harbaugh?
Seriously though, these kind of writeups just reinforce my decision to wean myself from all sports media save Mgoblog. Just a bunch of people (14 year olds) talking.

I may be wrong, but I really don't think the NCAA is a reduced workload. You've got to fly around the country begging kids to come to your school. Why not make more money in the NFL and skip that hassle?
September 26th, 2014 at 3:46 PM ^
Because in college you can skip the hassle of having to deal with bitchy millionaire players.

Adam Schefter (Michigan alum) was on one of the Bay Area sports talk radio yesterday. He conceded that he would like a Harbaugh return to AA, but there are plenty of suitors for him in the NFL. Schefter also hinted that Harbaugh would receive a huge raise if SF decides to cut him lose.
Michigan would have to play to Harbaugh emotions to have a shot.

I have no evidence whatsoever to back this up, and in fact, I'm making it up just because it sounds so good:
I have it on good authority that Brandon will be fired on Monday, to be replaced by Brian Cook, and that Jim Harbaugh will be coaching Michigan the following day.
