There are a couple things that have been consistent on the twitter front: The D-Line is very good. Jack Miller is not so good. That accurate for you guys that are seeing this in person?

guessing its spot on.  interior DL has some athletes so not surprised with henry and hurst and pipkins.  but then again the OL has been struggling as we all know and miller remains at point of attack despite the obvious.  good teams always have few upperclassmen seemingly come out of nowhere to either really contribute or provide legit depth etc....mich may have those types this year but i unfortunately do not ever see that happening with miller.  miller just has never been nor will ever be a legit BSC player.  it really is unfortunate bc by all accounts hes a good kid and hard worker and teammates like him - and even more so bc the coaches have already released his name to media / public as starting C.  but hokes love for the kids heart / practice effort cannot will him into a good player - when will hoke realize miller is not the guy at C?  its amazing, we all saw glasgow vs miller last year at C and it was not even close, yet hoke publily comments miller has earned the job outperforming glasgow and kugler so far this year.  good to hear the D was crazy aggressive and sounded like gardner made good decisions mostly.  but miller and braden are really troubling - especially since the public has historically seen mostly poor play from both yet both were first names out of hokes mouth as earning starting nods.  hopefully hes got a super duper secret plan in store for his OL that inspires such confidence

... While I like your optimism, we can't say the defense is good.  They are playing against a historically terrible offensive line.  So every time someone says "Hurst looks awesome." I say, "Against Jack Miller."

Last year, we had an okay defense and a horrible offense.  We lost our two best linemen.  I can't believe we are much better on the line regardless of maturation of young talent and a coaching change.  Put those things together, and my jury is still out on how good this defense is.  We simply won't know until we play someone with a pulse, like Notre Dame.

They ran like 80/20 pass plays to run plays... They had significantly more busted pass plays than run plays (not because of failed pass pro). I think the defense will be sick simply because there were zero missed assignments. Mattison called a blitz on nearly every offensive play of Gardner's sets and the defense was right where it needed to be at all times no question. The double A-gap blitzes with Ryan and Morgan coming were particularly terrifying considering how frequently Mattison blitzes Peppers. Offense will be fine.. Mediocre at best. Defense looks pretty terrifying.

Loses 4 or 5 games this season he can fire Funk at the end of the season and Hoke will get one more season to prove himself. Hopefully by next season our projected to be very talented young lineman will be playing well! Here's to 2015!

I want to see the OL improve through the season. I think we will have a traditionally good MIchigan defense. If the offense can improve enough for a 9-3 record, I would be thrilled. But competing for the B1G title probably will not occur until 2015 IMO!

I think our D could be one of the best in the B1G.

The O-line has had contact practices for just over a week, right?  I'd be most surprised if the O-line isn't much improved by Ap St.

Other observations. There's been a one handed catch here and there, no sustainable drives. Shane has shown a good touch and arm strength. Joe Bolden is ferocious with bad intentions for ball carriers. Overall the D looks pretty solid...lots of quality depth.

Sounds like OL is still a liability and the D hopefully is legit and not just looking good because of a sad OL to play against.

Like always have to wait till after the ND game to get a fair gauge of things.

explanation as to how he kept his job after last year?  I heard on the radio that inside zone is his specialty (which we're supposed to be running this year), from what I am hearing, it's not working. . .

1. Kugler's dad is an NFL line coach and sent his son to play for Funk.
2. Michigan has recruited well on the OL.
3. Lewan was a top NFL pick and Schofield was also selected.
4. Linemen typically need 4 years in a program to be very solid. Look back at Lewan during his RS So year. He was good, but was beat a bunch and committed at least 1 hold per game, and he's the best lineman to come through Michigan since long.

The only criteria for the offense is that they get better during the season.

Not there but from what I'm seeing on Twitter and here, it sounds like the O line is as terrible as we feared. I was just starting to buy into some of the hype, too.

A couple of questions for those of you there:

1. Do any of the O-linemen look decent/good?

2. How about the event itself?  Is it a cool, worthwhile thing... much better than this year's spring game?

Jack Lambert in his uniform. Hopefully he will play like him. Still looking for the online to open a hole, run game is non existent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall us all thinking the defense was ahead of the offense last year too, but then the offense looked pretty good against ND in week 2.  Not trying to say the o-line will be fixed, but I think it's fair to say that just becasue they look bad tonight doesn't mean they will be bad all year.  And, just because the defense looks great tonight doesn't mean they will be great all year.  That doesn't mean we can't take anything away from this, but lets not get carried away either.  In reality, the schedule is very backloaded, the ND game is meaningless towards winning the B1G, and our first real conference test won't be until Oct. 11th when PSU comes to town.  We have almost 2 months to improve.
