OT-NFL-just not doing it for me
Could be a lack of a viable home town interest, but man, does the NFL seem really stale to anybody else. It's just not exciting football. Does anybody here ever say, man I'm just gonna sit back and watch the fascinating Denver-Jacksonville game. Maybe you do, but man, the crowd sounds quiet, the players are all just self absorbed and give elaborate first down signals when their down three touchdowns. The stadiums just sound like a concert is going on and there happens to be some football going on. Some of the stadiums seem half full at times. Don't like the product anymore. When the fantasy bubble bursts, I think the NFL could be in for a rude awakening.

Its gotta be because you're a Lions fan. The NFL is still the number one sport by far, ratings wise. I personally like college football better, but living in Dallas, the NFL reins supreme. Just like it probably does in several other markets. The fact that the NFL blacksout games in places like Detroit probably only hurts interest in the NFL in those specific markets.

something, but I just don't have it in me.
I agree with you here. Fantasy is fun, but the game isn't.

For some reason, I've really lost interest I'm the the NFL this year. I have 2 fantasy team and even though doing well, really I could go e a shit. The product had become too commercialized and sterile.

The Detroit Lions completely and utterly destroyed any interest I have in the NFL. Some folks have been able to "adopt" another team as their own, but I haven't been able to do that. I now do other things on Sunday afternoons.

I'm actually going to agree and say that fantasy football has gotten WAY out of control (yes i do participate), but I would bet that most of you would rather sit at home and watch a game on HD and check your fantasy team live than go to an actual game and watch it. As sad as it is I know I would and I for sure would rather go to a Michigan game over any regular season NFL game.

People can never get enough of showing how much smarter they are than everyone else. Not to mention its free, and adds a lot of excitement to sunday.

but the Miami Dolphins games have been freaking awesome. This last shootout with the saints turned up 80 points.

ditto..
I've been watching all the Dolphins games.. Really fun team to watch IMO..

I bleed Maize and Blue, but being from Chicago, I've always rooted for the Bears. It's funny, but this pro season has hit me in the exact same manner. I now find NFL football boring, almost to the point of being tedious. I too am having a hard time watching it.
Maybe this is due to the fact that there are a handful of great teams, a whole bunch of average teams, and about six or seven god-awful teams. It really makes for some dreadful matchups.
Face it, win or lose, nothing beats college FB.
I am going to Champaign on Saturday. Hope good Tate shows up.
GO BLUE!

I have to agree. While I loved watching the Miami-Saints game yesterday, college football delivers a level of excitement and passion that just can't be matched by the NFL. Sure, the NFL has better players, and maybe this is just the cynic in me, but it doesn't feel like either side cares as much about winning and losing. Or maybe it is just that the fans don't care as much, and that ambivalence is transferred to the players.
I do think that fantasy sports makes the games more exciting to some, but it also creates situations where grown men bitch and moan about dropped screen passes in the 3rd quarter or how "smart" someone was for nabbing DeSean Jackson in the 6th round. I don't see the fantasy movement dying down anytime soon, but I do think it has "jumped the shark" in the sense that there is now a primtime show on FX whose plot revolves around fantasy football.

I think that there are three things that makes college better in my my heart.
1) No salary means playing for passion and and the school. I feel that NFL players have much more trouble buying into the team, especially when they are an elite level player
2) The dynamic nature of College football's systems, teams, etc. There is just more variability in college. In the NFL teams follow strict regimens that are proven to work by the best teams in the league year after year. Adjustments are small in nature and mistakes are really exploited when they happen. Usually they don't. In college there are more talent mismatches, mistakes, trick plays, and number of other things that allow games to be crazier.
3) Every game matters. Losing one potentially compromises your opportunity at a championship

I like college a lot more than the NFL, but the NFL is still a very good product. Some of the players in the league just amaze me. Desean Jackson (sp?) is a prime example of that tonight.

He is on my fantasy team ... I sat him ... I fucked up.
October 26th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
not as big a fuckup as me sitting the steelers defense for the bears defense. 28 point difference. right there.

I tend to agree with you. The NFL doesn't get the blood boiling like waking up at 11 and getting ready for a long Saturday of college football. Then again, Im a Browns fan.
October 26th, 2009 at 11:31 PM ^
But the league has lost some of its excitement this year. It just seems like their are so many horrible teams than more than half of the games are just busters getting beat down.

Michigan-notre dame was the same weekend as the packers-bears game...both games were last second victories and both were rival games, but my nervousness and excitement was waaaaay more bigger for michigan.....but in the past it was def favoring packers

Did you try some romantic music to set the mood? Or how about sexy lingerie? Some couples also like to spice things up a bit with role-playing, or even throwing some toys or adult films into the mix. Worst comes to worst, you can always try swinging or taking E. Hope this helps!

I am just picturing how badly the crowd would freak out if some dude came to an NFL game with a pacifier in his mouth and then spent the entire time sniffing Vic's vapor rub and offering to give people back rubs. At the very least, it would be a hell of a lot more entertaining than watching the Redskins every week.

I think I may have just set a benchmark for Most Uncomfortable Post. Ever.

I kind of agree with you. This year I didnt do Fantasy Football because I wanted to enjoy football on its own merit. I have the NFL Sunday Ticket and get all of the games...but I find myself only watching New England, Miami (obviously) with a little bit of other teams like Dallas, NYG, NYJ etc. thrown in.
The rest of the league is kind of boring right now and dont even get me started on the Lions and where they are at.
