Honestly, the "possibility" word is 100% Harbaugh's conviction that "no man can see the future; that's biblical"

There is nothing, NOTHING, NOTHING behind the article at all.

He honestly does not understand how people can ask "where will you be next year?" because it is actually impossible for us to know. On each day, he focuses on doing that day as possible to prepare for the future *precisely because* you cannot predict the future.

There's a real possibility I could win the lottery this week. It may be extremely thin, but it is possible.

I'm not saying Harbaugh will stay or go, either could happen. But the way these guys word this stuff, using so many qualifiers, suits two purposes. One, it lets them sound like they have something new to report when they really don't, and two it ensures they are never wrong.

How many of these NFL “it’s believed” or “sources say” or “potentially could” articles will keep being posted on the MGoBoard? I have the over/under set at 5.5 through the weekend.

In the article he says "speak with" and not interview:

Sources say it's believed the Chargers will speak next week with Harbaugh, who has indicated to associates there's a real possibility he could leave the University of Michigan to become Los Angeles' head coach.

Also:

Meanwhile, sources say negotiations are ongoing with Michigan as the school makes an effort to sign Harbaugh to a contract extension, particularly in light of other recent movement within college football.

Or… Nick Saban is an elite defensive coach with a long history of sending defensive backs to the NFL and that’s an attractive option for any athlete. And his decision was based solely on a preference to play for Saban over Harbaugh and not the likelihood of one of them being in the NFL.

So unless you have evidence of Domani Jackson saying he picked Bama because of the uncertainty surrounding Harbaugh’s job status, take a chill pill.

The CBS article author has no source of his own, and instead cites a Tom Pelissero article on NFL.com.  The Pelissero article itself article does not at all claim any true source saying that an interview has been set up or that Harbaugh will be interviewing.  The carefully worded text is more compatible with the idea that a 'source' thinks an interview may or should take place.  Thus, the 'source' is likely someone speculating that such an interview will happen. Otherwise, the Peilserro article would provide more detail.

Here is the text of the Pelissero article: "Harbaugh is certainly a candidate of interest, but sources say the sides have not yet spoken. That should change next week, and if all goes well, things could ramp up quickly."  That is VERY far from stating that an interview has been scheduled, or even that the 'source' has any personal knowledge that either side is seeking to schedule an interview.   It is carefully worded to separate sources saying that "the sides have not spoken," and then in the next sentence (not attributed to any source) speculating that things "could ramp up quickly."  In addition, it is buried several paragraphs into the article.  If the Pelissero really had a real source stating that an interview actually is going to happen, it would be in the first paragraph.

Will JH interview with the chargers?  Maybe.  I would guess that there will be some sort of contact.  But that is...just a guess.  Neither of the articles moves the needle or contains any useful information, other than very vague and non-specific things that are already known.  This is click bait (Harbaugh gets clicks) and sports writers filling their quota of articles they must produce.

I'm watching Chernobyl and reading about how the actual events went down.

When the reactor was on fire Valery Legasov decided to perform helicopter drops of sand and boron to put it out. When scientists suggested to him that the drops wouldn't be effective, Legasov noted that they must be seen as doing something to put out the fire, even if it's unlikely to succeed.

I dunno if I need to spell out this analogy any further but just in case, Valery Legasov = Chargers leadership and the toxic nuclear disaster fire would be the Los Angeles Chargers

I don't think Harbaughs style would work with nfl players anymore. Especially on a struggling team. These players have much more money and come from a different generation than his 49ers. It'd end up like Beilein where we wish he had just stayed at Michigan and retired instead of getting clowned by young diva athletes.

The Chargers also have too much rot in the system. How can you go 5-12 when you have Hebert, Allen, Ekeler, Bosa, Mack? And those are vets so its looking like he'd need to tear down and rebuild.

'It's possible', 'sources say', 'might leave', etc. The song is on infinite repeat year after year. I'll believe it if it happens; otherwise, it's clickbait.

Evidently the players know whether JH is staying. If he's not, I'd have expected to see a mass exodus to the portal. Yet as far as I know, we're not seeing that.

I don’t think this is true.  I’d think most of the core would stay to play for Moore.  Probably seal JJ’s fate to the NFL.  I also don’t think it’s possible that the players “know” what he’s doing. Even if he told them his heart is in trying to win a SB it still takes the right offer and situation that he mite not get.  On the other hand if he’s telling them 100% he’s staying it makes no sense not to get it over with. So there’s obviously variables that could change what he does in either direction.  He may have gave them some word salad, or things like planning and scheduling for the future/ spring are being interpreted as he’s staying.

If he does leave it seems like Moore is the next in line which I’m good with but torn about at the same time.  Minter just feels like he’d be the bigger loss which is subconsciously telling.

If I were Warde I would be sitting on his doorstep with the biggest College Football contract of all time asking him to sign and hopefully before next week.

And I would also not return any Jim Stapleton calls if they happened to come in.

This is like the ancient party Game of Telephone.  Quietly hear a whispered message, repeat the message to the next ear and so on and so on. The fun part is how changed the message is once it's spoken aloud at its "final destination".

Some guy writes/tweets/speculates - then the next guy (who's a "good guy") opines about the speculation - only to soon have the speculation considered kinda factual, so it gets repeated with expansions until it's confirmed in some nebulous way.

Fun game - full of lessons.

Jim is doing his due diligence through his agent, which is what anyone who is smart would do in his position. If he actually interviews, same thing - he’s exploring his options.  How can we NOT expect Jim to be smart about this?
