Article about Semaj Morgan's Foundation
I realize that a number of the players are involved in the communities around Ann Arbor, and saw that Blake Corum was recognized nationally before the Texas-Washington game for giving away hundreds of turkeys in Ypsilanti. Anyway, I came across this story about Semaj Morgan who has his own foundation, and partnering with Will Johnson gave away over 1000 toys in Detroit this year. My 19-year-old self certainly wasn't that selfless. Anyway, besides being a great team, this also seems a like a team full of great guys.

This is a great thing, and Morgan seems like a neat kid. But--I can tell you from experience--every agent is telling every promising player in America that they need to get something like this going early nowadays. Across all sports. Sometimes it saves on taxes; it's why every rich person has their own charity.

Of course it comes with tax breaks; that's the way the tax laws are written in this country. But why come in and poop on OP's thread when it's clear that there's also a good heart behind the effort?

i mean, to your point, just because this thread is PR working on us doesn't mean it's not also a good thing.
but also, just because it's a good thing doesn't mean it isn't PR working on us...

He can handle it. You can handle it. If it's cosmetic and everyone does it, simply fawning, knee-jerk fashion, may not be the call. Feel free, though. If the kids in the D--where I was born, Henry Ford Hospital--are drowning in toys but there are no jobs, then you question people building their rep on gullible, fawning people. Some of us come here to think. Semaj is a bright kid; he can think, too. We're not all so fragile that we can't be questioned.

I'm going to choose to believe he has good intentions at the age of 18, until I'm shown otherwise. How would you like Semaj Morgan to create jobs?

Sooo “fawning” over what Blake does with BC2 at Thanksgiving is not the thing to do either huh? Get outta here with that. These kids have proven that they have a heart to help the community and now have the means to do so in college with NIL money. It’s honestly pretty cool they get to lay the foundation for something like this now in college vs having to wait to get drafted into the NFL, which is not guaranteed.

If Semaj has the type of money where a foundation functions as a tax haven that increases his wealth, we have the best NIL program in the country and we should be landing any recruit we want.

Phaedrus,
this is what I came to say. Well put. But also, I’m glad he’s doing this. Great job Semaj!

You can give ten people a thousand dollars and at least three will complain that they have to break the hundreds.
Some people are never happy and find the negative in one of our own giving back to the community.

No mention of an agent in the article.
They do have a nice quote from Semaj’s mom Erika about how she was the recipient of toy drives growing up on Detroit’s east side. Must be pretty special to see your son giving away toys, and pizza to 1,028 kids from the east side of Detroit. Especially when you were once one of those kids.
