Cameron Calhoun to transfer portal.

Bit of a surprise here. But perhaps he saw little PT with Hill, Walker, Waller, Edmonds, etc.

Best of luck to the young man
December 28th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ^
So too is Joey Velazquez.
December 28th, 2023 at 3:34 PM ^
Have to assume Valazquez has graduated and is going to get some playing time somewhere next year. How has baseball gone for him? Assuming MLB isn't in the cards there.

Joey Velaquez, hit .255 (70-for-275) with nine home runs and a .340 OBP in baseball. In football, he had seven tackles and recovered one fumble on special teams. Joey leaves with one B1G baseball championship ring and three B1G football championship rings.
Good luck in your future endeavors, Joey, a true Michigan man.

This is unsurprising
December 28th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
That's amazing. He's like a 9th year senior
December 28th, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
Probably going to have 10+ transfer including some suprises like every year
December 28th, 2023 at 3:33 PM ^
Wonder if this is just a choice or if they’ve lined up a DB from the portal that made him feel further buried in the depth chart
December 28th, 2023 at 4:52 PM ^
Waller's emergence was probably the death knell for him being a starter here, whether we have someone lined up in the portal or not.
December 28th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
Would have been a better fit at OSU. Didn’t want to play school.
December 28th, 2023 at 3:36 PM ^
Too bad, I was excited to see his long-term potential.
December 28th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
Dang. Was he not getting some hype last spring?
December 28th, 2023 at 6:01 PM ^
Don't be ridiculous!
December 28th, 2023 at 3:37 PM ^
Bummer…

Elite prognostication by Seth last spring:
Flight Risk Assessment: High. Rapid-fire commitments and decommitment suggest that he and his support network are paying close attention to opportunities, and are highly reactive when a good one comes along. Also this isn't a guy getting on the patience train:
”I think about it every day. I think about how they’re going to develop me as soon as I get up there. How I’m just going to work by butt off in the offseason to make a name for myself. Also, to make sure I get on the field as fast as I can in the most efficient way as possible.”

Seth took some heat when he originally included that flight risk section in recruiting write ups, but personally I think it’s a valid addition. Not every recruit is the same and they all aren’t going to be as patient as some others. You see the writing on the wall with a lot of these kids.
Dylan Raiola comes to mind as a prime example. He’s been to 4 different high schools and his recent commitment to Nebraska is his 3rd college commitment. Safe to say he has his eyes on the exit doors if his freshman year doesn’t go the way he expects and a better opportunity comes along. No harm in a fan base acknowledging that.
December 29th, 2023 at 7:00 AM ^
I'd expect the same from Jadyn Davis with our current roster of QB's. That's a college football thing not a Raiola thing.
Look at how Michigan treated JJ all in an effort to keep him out of the portal. No high end 5 star will ever sit beyond 1 year in college.
December 29th, 2023 at 8:23 AM ^
It goes far beyond normal college football transfer portal stuff when you’re looking at guys who transfer high schools multiple times and flip their commitment multiple times compared to a guy who was locked in to one school the moment he committed.
It’s not just 5 stars. Every kid, regardless of their ranking, is different. There are signs during their recruitment that make it more likely than others that they won’t stick around. Someone like Calhoun was a bigger flight risk than someone who was locked in from the moment he committed. Again, it’s okay for us to acknowledge this and for someone more informed, like Seth, to inform us of those details.

No offense to him..I honestly don't even remember hearing his name. Good luck
December 28th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Wonder if Cameron and Joey were invited to take the trip to Pasadena.
December 28th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
Joey is with the team I believe but not Cameron. Not sure he would have been eligible.
December 28th, 2023 at 4:37 PM ^
Odd that they're coming out now...but not huge surprises. Wish them the best going forward!

Come home Domani!
December 28th, 2023 at 7:55 PM ^
He’s bama bound
December 28th, 2023 at 5:33 PM ^
It’s being reported that Domani is watching Bama’s practice today. That’s not to say that he isn’t going to watch Michigans tomorrow. He has these two as his final two and has them both in his back yard to watch them closely.
December 28th, 2023 at 6:17 PM ^
Watch Bama’s today and show up to ours tomorrow with some valuable intel.

Not with Slick Nick violating rules and making sure he stopped by to say hello to him while he was at their practice.
December 28th, 2023 at 7:13 PM ^
This one is disappointing. Hate to see a 4* leave before he even gave his career at Michigan a chance. But best of luck to him.

With Wallace and Sainristil moving on, our defensive backfield is very thin. We better hope Moore and Paige come back. We’ve struck out with Jackson and Stout so far. The fact that we’ve went after both of them tells you the staff knows we need some help there as well.
December 29th, 2023 at 11:10 AM ^
You only need 1 of Moore or Paige back. Neither of them or Sabb or Berry are playing CB. Sabb and Berry are ready to take over at safety. Paige or Moore could play in the slot or Sabb could potentially as well. But getting both Moore and Paige back doesn’t address the second CB spot at all. Johnson will hold down one side and most likely Hill will be the other CB if they don’t bring a transfer in. Only 2-3 teams will even be able to test Hill next year. Michigan will be fine.
