SIAP: Vintage Bo
Just ran across this video and really enjoyed it. Sorry if it's been posted before...
"VINTAGE BO follows Coach Bo Schembechler's second season at University of Michigan -- in the final weeks of the Rose Bowl drive -- at practice, during a game, with his family. For the first time ever, you'll see and experience first hand the public -- and private -- Bo Schembechler."

What a different time … walking through the crowd talking , getting in your car with your son and driving off … can you imagine that now

No I can’t. When did it become a thing that every head coach has a police escort?

I can imagine it back then because I experienced it with Bo Schembechler himself back in the late 70s.
Bo emerged from Michigan Stadium via the tunnel, well after the Michigan Spring Game, and stood watching us all for a minute while I and a few buddies were tossing each other a football. I had just thrown a slightly off-target pass which one of the other guys (Mark) ran down and caught, some 15-20 yards from Bo. We didn't realize it was Bo until he complimented Mark on the catch by calling out "Nice catch, big fella!"
Noticably absent was any kind of compliment on my throw, LOL.
We ended up chatting briefly, for maybe a quick 2 minutes, with Bo before he continued on his way, no police officer or security or even any assistant coach alongside, and headed across the lot.

A buddy of mine grew up in Green Bay. He said there a number of times when he and his friends were walking to school and this wood panel station wagon would pull up, driven by Bart Starr, and he'd give them a ride to school then continue on to Lambeau. So many things come to mind when I think of this story - wood panel, station wagon, walking to school, stranger danger, etc.
Different times indeed.

Every Sunday in the fall we all watched Bo and Branstatter on Michigan Replay. We won most of the time back then and the show was a great way to re-live the previous day’s game.

Yes! I miss that. Not that what we have now isn't good as well, but man I miss the old days.

Michigan Replay was special. Most of the games back then were not televised. You got to see Michigan on tv maybe four times during the season. If Michigan didn't win the big10 ( which actually had ten teams ), the season was over. I recall listening to the games on radio quite often.

I would listen on the radio and play the victors from my Mom's wind up football shaped music box that was from her college days...... Great memories.

Don't know why the M Replay theme is not part of the Marching Band (and basketball pep band) repertoire.

Did the creepy Bo grave walk happen this year? I didn’t see anything about it.

This is outstanding. “I like that song.” Ha!

I LOL'd at that too.
It's a good thing, because he heard it a lot in the Big 2 Little 8 era.

That was amazing. Thanks for sharing. Rip-Dart 26!

We only had two plays: Rip-Dart 26 and Rip-Dart 27.
But we were damn good at those two plays.

Locker rooms were . . . basic.

This was filmed during Schembechler's third season in 1971, not his second.

Love seeing that power I option football. Reminded me of the offense we ran in high school. We also ran the Michigan 52 defense.

Every play was defended with 10 in the box. Yet they still managed to move the ball. I wonder if there are any lessons for today.
