You’re probably right although OSUs loss would be to another playoff team (us) and FSUs would be to Louisville. The CFP committee probably wouldn’t want two big ten teams in it anyway. If that’s the case then the Buckeyes are clearly eliminated
November 26th, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
Texas won't lose to OK st.
November 26th, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
I don’t like this but I can’t really disagree with it.
Although OSU doesn’t have a game next week hopefully they find a way to lose anyway.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:03 AM ^
You want
Georgia
UM
FSU
OREGON
Hopefully they dont jump a one loss team over FSU. Oregon is fantastic right now.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:13 PM ^
Root for Oregon, FSU, and Oregon to win, then Beat Iowa.
Then beat FSU in the Rose Bowl
November 25th, 2023 at 11:16 PM ^
We want Oregon to win twice next week?
November 25th, 2023 at 11:22 PM ^
Assuming he meant Texas?
November 25th, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
Oregon can win twice in football. But we want them to lose in basketball.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:16 PM ^
I want FSU to win next week against Louisville. If GA handles Alabama and we take care of Iowa, it will be
1. GA
2. UM
3. FSU
4. Oregon
or
1. GA
2. UM
3. Washington
4. FSU
We would probably play FSU in rose bowl… a very good matchup for us.
If Washington beats Oregon, then they will be 3rd and we would play them.
Wouldn’t be great to play a west coast team in rose bowl.
Either way, we are most likely playing semifinals in Pasadena. Best case scenario would be if Oregon wins (they would be 4th and play Georgia) and FSU wins (and plays us in a two versus three matchup)
if FSU loses, then Texas will be 4 and we will play winner of Oregon- Washington in pasadena
November 25th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
You really think the committee puts Michigan against FSU over Oregon or Washington? I think the committee rewards Georgia with FSU in the Sugar.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:22 PM ^
If Washington wins- no… they will be 3rd and FSU 4th and we play Wash
but if Oregon and fsu both win, then I think an undefeated FSU is 3rd and a 1 loss PAC12 champion Oregon is 4.
hence… I am rooting for Oregon and FSU next week
November 25th, 2023 at 11:31 PM ^
Oregon would give Georgia fits, for sure.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
November 26th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
I think the committee would place a weak-but-undefeated FSU at #4. They can't keep an undefeated FSU out of the playoffs, but IMO their seeding is fair game.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^
If FSU wins out, they are still going to be 4th. They will pit them against Georgia. If Ga loses to Bama somehow, they’ll have Ga as 2 and FSU as 3, Wash/Ore winner would be 4th.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
You mean if Georgia loses to Bama, Bama would be 2 and Georgia would be out?
obviously we would go to 1 in that scenario
November 25th, 2023 at 11:18 PM ^
Assuming TX and FSU wins, what happens if bama beats GA? I would actually think GA wouldn’t be in…
right now you realistically have:
sec champ
M
pac 12 champ
either FSU or TX (assuming they both win)
November 25th, 2023 at 11:20 PM ^
despite SEC bias, I would think a 1 loss championship winner gets in over a 1 loss non-winner. I think If Bama wins, Georgia falls to 5 if FSU wins.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:24 AM ^
If Bama, Texas, FSU, Washington and Michigan win: Michigan and Washington in, seems like Texas is in and would be ahead of Bama based on head to head win. One loss Bama v. Undefeated FSU is interesting for last spot.
Becomes even more interesting if Oregon, Bama, Texas, FSU and Michigan win: Texas and Michigan in. Take 2 of, Oregon, Bama or FSU.
Total chaos scenario ( please no): Oregon, Bama, Texas and FSU win and Michigan losses: Texas in. Take 3 of Michigan, Oregon, Bama or FSU.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:23 PM ^
Want any scenario that has Michigan playing Washington or Florida State in the semifinal.
Final rematch vs. Georgia would be perfect.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:55 PM ^
I'd like to see UM, UW, UT, FSU, and Bama win. Would they place texas over alabama? I bet they put bama at 4. Texas might burn.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
I can't see how you can put a one-loss champ Bama in over a one-loss champ Texas when Texas beat Bama in Tuscaloosa.
That would be an interesting scenario. I think the choice would be between Bama and FSU. FSU might burn.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:25 PM ^
Michigan make the playoffs first and foremost.
But after that, anything that keeps Alabama out. Those assholes and Nick Saban have won 7 times cheating 100 times worse than anything Michigan and Jim Harbaugh didn’t even know about in this whole “scandal” and no one ever says boo about it. Screw them and screw all the SEC slappies.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:26 PM ^
Michigan vs Everybody. That's where we are.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:29 PM ^
As long as Michigan is in and ohio state is out
November 25th, 2023 at 11:31 PM ^
How about
Michigan (beat Iowa)
Washington
FSU
Texas
I mean if Alabama beats Georgia and everyone else above wins out, this would happen, right? I’m sure fair and partial ESPN and NCAA wouldn’t stand in the way of their SEC darlings being legitimately left out of the playoffs for 3 undefeated teams and a team that won its conference and head to head against the SEC champ
November 25th, 2023 at 11:50 PM ^
Clearly that can’t happen. I mean, I just heard on Fox Radio tonight that Alabama and Georgia are shoe-ins if Alabama wins the SEC. That can’t be just a bunch of b.s., can it?
/vomit
November 25th, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
ESPN would implode and the world would come to end before the CFP committee didn’t have an SEC team.
I just don’t see a one loss non champion (Georgia) getting in over a one loss champion (Oregon or Texas).
Regardless, I think Georgia is going to take care of Bama next week
November 26th, 2023 at 12:32 AM ^
After all the comments about Michigan's weak SOS, Georgia's is somehow even worse. All the arguments about Michigan needing to be undefeated should apply to Georgia as well.
I agree with you that Georgia is going to get the job done, and I'm kind of hoping they do. I don't want an Alabama upset to screw up the rankings and spoil a Big 10 vs. Pac 12 Rose Bowl.
That said, it would be excellent if the SEC finally got left out.
November 26th, 2023 at 8:29 AM ^
Good chance they take one loss SEC champ Bama over undefeated FSU. Logic will be, Bama's loss was early, they've gotten better and FSU's QB is hurt. And, although unspoken "SEC".
November 25th, 2023 at 11:35 PM ^
Louisville could get screwed
November 26th, 2023 at 12:33 AM ^
They lost to Kentucky today - already screwed themselves, no need for the committee to help
November 25th, 2023 at 11:36 PM ^
I honestly don't feel like anyone is beating Georgia. They manage to play at a high level when they need to
November 25th, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
A Georgia fan told me on a flight last week, "I hope we don't have to play you guys"
...I was pleasantly surprised by that
November 25th, 2023 at 11:48 PM ^
Georgia's DL was ridiculous and virtually impregnable. Which position groups for that team scare you now?
November 25th, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
Michigan
November 25th, 2023 at 11:51 PM ^
FUCK OHIO, FUCK PETE THAMEL, FUCK ESPN, FUCK PAUL FINEBAUM, FUCK THE SEC.
JUST WIN THE GAME.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:57 PM ^
I want three things:
- Beat Iowa. Obviously.
- Then, any scenario that keeps OSU out of the playoff.
- Then, I want us to take the next step and treat our playoff opponents like we do OSU -- I want scheme to beat them and practice focused on that, not just for repping what we do well. We have to assume that our plan A will be stopped, and to carry that assumption into the game, building flexibility into the gameplan rather than just execution.
That being said, Michigan versus Washington in the Rose Bowl would be pretty great.
November 25th, 2023 at 11:57 PM ^
-Did you watch Bama today? Next weekend GA defeats Bama by 2 TDs. Why even discuss this?
-In many ways, the UW vs OR game is irrelevant. OSU drops out of the top 5. UW wins, they naturally go to the CFP because UW is undefeated. Due to OSU losing today, OR will move up to the #5 spot. If OR defeats UW, Oregon takes UW's place in the top 4 CFP.
In other words, the Pac-12 championship is a play-in game for the CFP.
Let's get down to the brass tax. The scenario we all dont want to happen: does Ohio State make the CFP if Alabama, Texas and FSU all lose? Given that scenario, the CFP could vote this way:
1) GA
2 UM
3) UW/OR
4) Ohio State
Texas must lose, FSU must lose, and Alabama must lose for OSU to back into the CFP once again. Less likely than last year. Yet, still not impossible.

November 26th, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
You sure a 1 loss Texas has done more than a 1 loss OSU? That is having faith in the OSU loving CFP.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:25 AM ^
100%. Texas would be a conf champ and would not be the 2nd team from its conference.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:16 AM ^
I think if Oregon was the PAC12 champ, Washington would be ahead of OSU so as not to punish Washington for playing in an extra championship game and the Huskies would get the 4th spot. But obviously, if Oregon loses, they fall to 2 losses, and OSU gets in. So I think OSU needs 3 underdogs and one favorite to come through for them.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:39 AM ^
I was thinking the same thing. If Oregon and Washington are both 12-1 and 1-1 to each other, are their resumes really that different? Oregon would have the conference championship and better eye test, so they would make the CFP team if there was only 1 slot for a 1-loss team. However, if there's 2 slots, I think those two would be the most deserving.
Arguably there is only 1 combination of championship game results that gets Ohio State in:
Georgia beats Alabama (ensure there is only 1 SEC team)
Michigan beats Iowa (we may be in with a loss, but I can't imagine 2 conference losers from the same conference making the playoffs)
Washington beats Oregon (ensure there is only 1 PAC 12 team)
Louisville beats FSU (no ACC team)
The real OSU beats Texas (no Pac 12 team)
November 26th, 2023 at 12:02 AM ^
We want Washington and FSU in. They’re both very beatable. Oregon would give us problems. Worst case scenario is Bama beats Georgia and UGA still gets in as the 4th seed.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
It ought to be UM, Texas and Oregon/UW and Georgia/Alabama winner. No reason at all the SEC or B10 should get 2 teams with this many real contenders.
The Alabama/Georgia loser absolutely doesn’t deserve it. Georgia will have beaten no great teams. And Alabama already lost at home to Texas. So head-to-head eliminates them.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:36 AM ^
I agree, except an undefeated FSU gets in over a 1 loss Texas
November 26th, 2023 at 12:12 AM ^
We should be ranked #1.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:15 AM ^
I want Michigan in and OSU out. That is all.
November 26th, 2023 at 12:58 AM ^
Georgia's ranked opponents so far have been a 10th ranked Missouri team, a 12th ranked Ole Miss team, and #25 Tennessee.
Alabama is currently #8.
Michigan has beaten second-ranked Ohio State and #7 ranked Penn State. I'd argue that Michigan currently has the most impressive win, and a roughly equal resume as things stand today. It wouldn't be irrational to argue Michigan should be #1 on Tuesday.
Of course, all that changes based on the conference championships, but it's an intriguing possibility, and it might be worth asking what's so impressive about Georgia this season?
It's an interesting question.
Another question I have is why all the argument about who we'd rather play in the playoff if we beat Iowa (let's not get cocky!), Last year the general consensus in the sports world was that Michigan had the easier draw against TCU. We saw how that went. Didn't mean shit what everyone thought.
The teams discussed all have a chance of beating anyone else in the playoffs. The odds may be longer or shorter, but these are all going to be very good football teams, all playing styles the other teams aren't necessarily used to. For me, that's what makes the playoffs so interesting.
