OT-ish: 247Sports (and others) reporting Cade McNamara likely done for the season
247 Sports was the first article I saw, but it's all over Titter/X now too. Many reports that Cade is likely done for the season. Kirk will give an update at his Tuesday press conference...
I wasn't pleased with the way he left, but damn, I feel for the kid. Rough way to go down, hope he recovers fully.

Hopefully he can get a medical redshirt for this year. Feel bad for him.
I also can't believe Iowa's backup is a 260 pound statue. I think they would be better off with someone that can just run fast and barely throw.
October 2nd, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
He can already use a COVID year, I believe. A medical RS could mean two more years for him, making him a 7th-year SR eventually!

Lots of people go to college for seven years…

Right. They're called lawyers.
(NOTE: Quote bastardized by a lawyer.)
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:14 PM ^
You chase quotes too?
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:49 PM ^
Or Blutarsky. Sucks for Cade.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
I see what you did there the old #humblebrag
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:40 PM ^
I went 6 years, plus 3.5 for MBA. I’m not a doctor though. :(
October 2nd, 2023 at 9:17 PM ^
I had student tickets at Michigan for 11 seasons. 1976-80 and 1987-92. I generally took as many MBA classes as covered by tuition reimbursement program.

Even if Cade plays for a 7th year, does he really want play another season under Brian Ferentz?
October 2nd, 2023 at 8:02 PM ^
...what about...anything...makes you think brian ferentz will have a job in 2 months
October 2nd, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
LOL!!! Have you heard of Kirk Ferentz?
October 3rd, 2023 at 8:08 AM ^
What makes you think Kirk Ferentz would fire him?

are you guys paying attention? #QuestFor25

What says "Iowa Quarterback" more than a 260 lb statue?
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:01 PM ^
I have this vague recollection of a Chuck Long game in A2 where I swear he was 25 for 30 with negative passing yards. No, not because of sack yardage being deducted. I swear that he took a 10 yard drop and then completed every throw but 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. That's probably not right. It was a long time ago and I'm sure I had a few drinks before, during and after the game. But that's how I remember it
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:41 PM ^
“Chuck Long is a dick.”
-My dad (circa 1980’s-ish)
October 2nd, 2023 at 9:06 PM ^
And who drafted him 12th overall?
You guessed it. Frank Stallone.
Of course I mean the Lions.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^
Maybe he should have listened to those Michigan doctors after all.
October 2nd, 2023 at 6:20 PM ^
Did you watch Jake Rudock play?
Sincerely,
Chuck Long
October 2nd, 2023 at 8:40 PM ^
He doesn't need it...he's got another year of eligibility.
October 2nd, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
They'd be better off going all wildcat, all the time.
October 3rd, 2023 at 12:24 AM ^
Agree GoBlue96.
Iowa should run the triple option. With that defense and forcing teams to prep for an Army type offense, would cause teams fits. Forget the forward pass
October 2nd, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
That's one of those injuries that you just know is season ending as soon as you see it.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
Non contact injuries are always scary. His leg just stopped working
October 3rd, 2023 at 6:12 AM ^
Somewhat ironic. I thought he was going to get absolutely killed in the Penn State game. He took one brutal hit after another, yet still kept getting up. And yet what levels him is a non-contact blow out of his knee. Strange game.
October 3rd, 2023 at 8:06 AM ^
It’s a process usually. The tendons/ligaments slowly tear. Bit by bit and the recovery isn’t long enough between micro-injuries and boom your knee just gives up under not even that extreme of a force.
October 2nd, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
Man that is a bummer. Maybe he'll come back to caretake the Maize and Blue next year while JD gets ready
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:25 PM ^
Nah, we good
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:03 PM ^
I predicted this after their first game- Cade was constantly under pressure even from cupcake type teams.
Cade- we will always have 2021- thank you for a glorious season!
PS- maybe those Michigan doctors had a reason for their medical opinion
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:12 PM ^
Erick All going there makes some sense since Iowa has produced several NFL TEs. Their offense heavily features the TE with the signature waggle play (favorite of Ara Paraseghian).
Did Cade McNamara have expectations that this would be a different offense? Something more like what Michigan was running? (even the older Harbaugh era year 1 - power I formation)? Was that the same impression of the other portal transfers?
After seeing how much Charlie Jones blossomed when he went to Purdue, hard to believe Iowa was going to be a place to build up tape for a QB.
I hope he recovers quickly and fully. He did a great job on that wonderful year.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:21 PM ^
I've said this elsewhere but Oregon State was clearly the best choice for Cade. Really good o-line, great running game (would love to see Damien Martinez behind Michigan's o-line), and a solid defense. And Corvallis isn't super far from his home town of Reno. DJU saw the setup and took advantage but he isn't some world beater. Cade could have gotten there first. I wonder if he stayed regionally so he could show Michigan what they lost. It obviously has not gone according to plan. Iowa's offense is a fucking joke to the point that even when the backup was tossing dimes they were dropped.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:38 PM ^
How do you know Oregon State wanted him?
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:20 PM ^
With Cade's track record from '21, I'm sure they would have at least taken his phone calls.
October 2nd, 2023 at 8:42 PM ^
I don’t think that Oregon state has Hassan Haskins, Blame Corum, Donovan Edwards or the best line in the country
October 2nd, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
Because he won the Big Ten? Because he beat Ohio State? I doubt that matters much to their coaches nor should it. Oregon State runs a zone read offense. D.J. U is ideal for them because he's a running quarterback. We all know that McNamara is not effective running a zone read because he does not and/or cannot keep. He doesn't have much foot speed if he did. Their system is all wrong for him. McNamara needs a West Coast offense with quick throw-type stuff, which isn't what Oregon State runs.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
It doesn't seem like playing close to home was an important factor, but he could have also gone to Fresno State or Cal or Nevada, all of which have transfer QBs starting. Even within the B1G, Wisconsin would have been a better fit: good running game, system focused on pre-snap reads, and I don't think Tanner Mordecai committed until after Cade did. Going to Iowa just seems like a "nobody else was interested" option.
October 3rd, 2023 at 8:51 AM ^
I think Cade wanted a program where he was guaranteed the starting spot, based on nothing but Iowa being such a puzzling choice of destination.
October 3rd, 2023 at 9:24 AM ^
McNamara made it obvious this year that he has limited ability. He was serviceable on a very good Michigan team but is subpar when he doesn’t have those advantages. He chose the only school where he was guaranteed a starting job. In fact, he wasn’t any better this year than Petras was in 2022, and I don’t think anyone is claiming Petras is a good college QB.
McNamara (2023): 46-90 (51.1 completion %), 505 yds (5.6 YA), 4 TDS, 3 INTs, 106.2 rtg
Petras (2022): 157-281 (55.9 completion %), 1,725 yds (6.1 YA), 5 TDs, 5 INTs, 109.8 rtg
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:13 PM ^
Maybe UM doctors could reach out with advice again since he seemed receptive.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:15 PM ^
Too soon?
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:15 PM ^
Bad. erick all looked good saturday but he always mixes in drops and/or fumbles.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
That's awful. Best wishes to the kid for a speedy recovery.
As an aside, I cringed a bit when Brock Huard said that JJ had led us to two consecutive B1G Championships and two consecutive wins over Ohio State. I love JJ, and we all have our opinions about the circumstances of Cade's departure, but Cade deserves full credit for what he accomplished for us in 2021. He was the QB who helped us get the monkey off our backs. That should never be forgotten.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
He did, but at the same time, the 2021 win over OSU had relatively little to do with Cade. He did hit the big pass to Cornelius Johnson, but he also threw what looked at the time to be a backbreaking pick in the red zone when we could have taken a two-score lead in the first half. The second half, when we crushed OSU due to their "one bad half," we could have had a reasonably well-trained monkey under center, as our OL and running game paved OSU.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:48 PM ^
I am still not sure the "bad half" RD was referring to.....The Game in 2021 or 2022? Asking for a friend.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:37 PM ^
He said it was "up in Ann Arbor" ... so apparently he was satisfied with their play in Columbus last year?
October 2nd, 2023 at 5:41 PM ^
Finally something Ryan Day and I have in common....I was also satisfied with their play in Columbus last year.
