Your Opinion: Most Preferred CFP Outcomes, Ranked
I was wondering what are your most preferred CFP outcomes.
Here is my list:
#1 - Michigan beats Georgia for the title
#2 - Michigan beats OSU for the title
(obviously, #1 and #2 are the best two outcomes, by far. The reason for #1 over #2 is I'd hate for OSU to beat Georgia; I'd rather have them lose and end their season in the semi, and honestly, even the thought of a rematch is no fun)
#3 - TCU beats Georgia
#4 - TCU beats OSU
(If someone else has to win, I'd prefer not OSU and not SEC; also, prefer OSU losing to Georgia in the semi as stated above)
#5 - Georgia beats Michigan
#6 - Georgia beats TCU
(Rather go to the title game, even if we lose; prefer Georgia to win it than OSU, duh)
#7 - OSU beats TCU
#8 - OSU beats Michigan
(obvious worst case is losing to OSU in final game; undoes much of the greatness of the last two years; if #7 did happen, there is a small silver lining: at least they can't say they beat Michigan)
Does anyone have a different ranking than this one?
December 30th, 2022 at 5:16 PM ^
Agreed.
For anyone that lives and breathers Michigan Football…Michigan beating Ohio State for the National Championship…for the 2nd time in the same season…on the 25th year anniversary of our last Championship…leading to the implosion of Ohio State Football’s program and firing of Ryan Day after making the National Championship Game is the ONLY correct answer.
And for the Opp to rank TCU beating Georgia or Ohio State ahead of Michigan making a National Championship Game is crazy. I have tickets…I want to see Michigan play in the Natty.

I strongly disagree. The upside of avenging our playoff loss last year is almost as high as beating our rival again. Some might even argue it's higher. On the flip side, losing to them in the championship would be one of the worst days of my life, whereas I could live with a loss to GA, especially if it's close.
December 30th, 2022 at 5:38 PM ^
Yep, I can handle a loss to GA but osu fans would always have the win against Michigan for a national championship in their back pocket.
Try talking smack to an osu fan for a regular season Michigan win when they can just say that they beat Michigan for a national championship. Especially when osu backed into the playoff
December 30th, 2022 at 5:43 PM ^
Strange your preferred outcome is Georgia beating Michigan.
December 30th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Nope, I posted early what I preferred.
This is what I posted
Michigan beats SEC Georgia
Michigan beats SEC wannabe osu. Would be the greatest win ever but the worst loss ever
Georgia wins title
TCU wins title (only if playing osu in title game since I never root for the team that beat my team to win the championship)
Listen to the Kardashians speak
Listen to KISS
Read game threads
#4 team win titl.... Please don't let them win
December 30th, 2022 at 5:49 PM ^
Sorry…Michigan vs Ohio State at SoFi for the National Championship would be the most watched college football game ever. My Ohio State friends biggest nightmare is facing Michigan again this season, and all agree Day would be fired if they lose. Avenging Georgia is fine…but hammering a team twice that beat Georgia is the same thing. Not wanting to see the greatest rivalry in college football in the championship game means you aren’t a fan of those teams or are scared.
December 30th, 2022 at 6:19 PM ^
Disagree. This is a very high risk, high reward type of scenario but the risk far outweighs the reward.
If we beat Georgia to win the National Championship, nobody from either Michigan, Ohio, or ANYWHERE else will try to put an asterisk on our 15-0 national championship because we "only" beat Ohio once.
If we lose to Ohio, NOBODY outside of Michigan will EVER care that we destroyed them this year because that game will be rendered meaningless.
How many Alabama fans talk about beating Georgia last year in the first game? None.
December 30th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
Wrong. This thread asked what is your preferred National Championship outcome…not how neurotic a Michigan fan you are. The best possible outcome is Michigan beating Ohio State. It is always Michigan beating Ohio State…not a discussion of risk and fear.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
My preferences: #1 Michigan wins as many games as possible. #2 OSU doesn't win any game.
December 30th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Backing up. I like that. He should be wearing a dress though.
December 30th, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
This meme would make an amazing poster to hold up at the bowl game.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
#1 UM beats OSU. It would be fun watching those mouth breathers run Third Base out of town.
#2 UM beats Georgia.
Anything else is not acceptable.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:57 PM ^
"Not acceptable" or not optimal?
If Michigan plays Uga closer than last year but ultimately falls short I'll "accept" that tho I'll be bummed.
Saying that's not acceptable is pretty dim...
Sorry & Happy New Year!
December 30th, 2022 at 2:02 PM ^
^^^Here's "that guy"
December 30th, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
I guess "that guy" will just repeat sorry & Happy New Year, but add a hearty Go Blue!
December 30th, 2022 at 2:18 PM ^
The man maintains a high standard from his couch. Michigan football must live up to that standard, or else.
December 30th, 2022 at 3:20 PM ^
To preface, I so hope Georgia takes OSU to the Woodshed and hangs a 100 on them.
But if there was a predetermined guaranteed outcome, beating the Buckeyes twice in a season and winning the NC would be historical perfection.
December 30th, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
"To preface, I so hope Georgia takes OSU to the Woodshed and hangs a 100 on them. "
In the first quarter I hope you mean?
December 30th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Obviously Michigan winning it all are the top two and OSU winning it all are the bottom two.
However, I would clearly prefer #5 where Georgia beats Michigan in the CFP final, than #3 or #4 where TCU beats Michgan and then goes on to win it all.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:06 PM ^
Strong agree.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Go Blue. Win the game.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:38 PM ^
Why post this?
December 30th, 2022 at 1:44 PM ^
Preferred is Michigan beats OSU in the finals… but damn I would be a mess leading up to that game with what was at stake.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
Same. I feel like an OSU win in that scenario would allow them to fully regain the momentum that has clearly shifted to Michigan.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
Same. Not only would it be more fun to beat OSU than Georgia, I think they're much more likely to beat OSU than Georgia.
And yet, I'll be rooting hard for UGA tomorrow night no matter the result of our game.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:53 PM ^
I agree that UM over OSU is number 1. But I also agree that OSU over UM is number 8, so I think I'd prefer to get number 8 taken off the table by having UGA take out OSU.
December 30th, 2022 at 6:59 PM ^
Ohio State would replace Sparty as little brother with one game. Columbus could never recover. There would be riots. It would be beautiful.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:56 PM ^
EXACTLY!
Who needs the angst?!
If we have 9 days to focus on football reasons we could beat Uga I'll be just fine with that.
9 days of fretting about the feelings of winning vs losing to osu are not what I need to start the new year with!
I guess the added joy of beating them again for the NC vs just the immense pleasure of winning the NC period does not balance out the agony should we lose to osu vs lose to Uga.
Not close actually...
December 30th, 2022 at 1:54 PM ^
Are you saying you hope OSU has our playbook?
December 30th, 2022 at 7:26 PM ^
Nice. This version only has one play...
December 30th, 2022 at 1:47 PM ^
1. Michigan beats OSU
(gap)
2. Michigan beats UGA
3. UGA beats Michigan (winning a playoff game matters because only 6 programs have done it, its rarified air)
4-7. doesnt matter
(a gap so large it cannot be measured in any way conceived by humans)
8. OSU beats Michigan
December 30th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
That’s a great point about how important it is to win against TCU
December 30th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
Sorry man, the gap between your 1 & 2 are NOT significant to me. Just win the NC!
The gap between 8 & every other outcome, as you mentioned, is a bottomless chasm!
Go Blue!
December 30th, 2022 at 3:06 PM ^
It's just that to me beating OSU by 22 in Columbus and then turning around and beating them for a national title would be so great it would almost be a turn out the lights level event. Like there can almost be no higher high than that.
December 30th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
It is indeed a Rorschach test of your personal psychology. Are you a risk taker or a risk avoider?
A win over Ohio State in the freaking National Championship would be the greatest win in Michigan history x 10.
However, a loss to Ohio State in the National Championship would be devastating. Especially after all the momentum we have built up against them the last two years.
I don't know if I could take the stress over 9 days if the CFP Final is a Michigan - Ohio State matchup. I don't know if the potential glory is worth the immense risk of failure. Probably why I never asked out the head cheerleader.
That said, give me a healthy Blake Corum (and everybody else stays healthy), and I'll take my chances against Ohio State on a neutral field.
December 30th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
An ELE. Extinction Level Event.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:53 PM ^
#1 Michigan wins title 🏆
#2: Anything else
December 30th, 2022 at 1:56 PM ^
Michigan wins the championship.
OSU loses to Georgia for back to back losses for the first time in years.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
#1 only.
December 30th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
It's an interesting question and I am mostly in agreement with your response.
The more interesting dilemma for me is whether I want OSU or UGA to win the game.
Obviously, if we lose to TCU, then I want UGA to crush OSU.
But if Michigan wins, do you want OSU to win (normally unpleasant and with big downside but probably gives Michigan a better chance of winning it all), or
Do you want UGA to win anyway (a more difficult game for Michigan but F-- OSU all of the time in every way)?
December 30th, 2022 at 2:09 PM ^
At first I thought I'd rather lose to UGA than play OSU with a chance to win but that's silly in retrospect. If we lose it will suck badly, but no worse than things were between 2012-2019. In fact better actually because Michigan will still be 2-1 over them over the last 2 years and will have beaten the national champion in their place by 22. We'll have to deal with shit but we're Michigan fans, we're well-versed in dealing with shit. But of course the upside is a more beatable opponent and the opportunity for the greatest win in Michigan history that will give us a ridiculous amount of bragging rights for the foreseeable future. Go big or go home!
Now I say that right now over 24 hours away from the games. But if Michigan wins and I'm watching the Peach Bowl it will be hard not to root against Ohio State because they are Ohio State.
December 30th, 2022 at 7:08 PM ^
I will be rooting for Georgia but hoping Ohio State wins.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:01 PM ^
1. Michigan wins the title
2. OSU never wins another game in perpetuity
3. Profit?
Michigan v Everybody. If we don't win, I don't want anyone else to win either.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:04 PM ^
#1 - Michigan beats Georgia for the title
#2 - Michigan beats OSU for the title
#3 - Georgia beats Michigan
#4 - TCU beats Georgia
#5 - Georgia beats TCU
#6 - TCU beats OSU
#7 - OSU beats TCU
#8 - OSU beats Michigan
The only way I want OSU to be in the final is if we beat them. The only way I don't want to be in the final is we were to lose to OSU. TCU is preferable to GA.
December 30th, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
I'd swap 4 and 5, personally.
December 30th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
#1 OSU beats Georgia 56-0. Ohio State gives Day a 20 year $300 million contract in the immediate aftermath of the game. Michigan beats OSU for a national title and OSU spends all offseason thinking about how they gave a lifetime contract to a guy who can't beat Michigan
We can dream
December 30th, 2022 at 2:05 PM ^
I'll take the number 1 with a side of toast and a cup of coffee that's strong enough to beat the shit out of the mash potatoes. Paraphrasing Tom Waits here.
