Pearson is out according to JUB

Great. Can we move on from this topic now?
August 5th, 2022 at 12:55 PM ^
Not until we have a new coach, wait out the recruiting class decisions, speculate on other Warde Manuel ethical worries, bitch about NIL a little more and postulate on how this affects our ability to believe we are better than everyone else. There is also a 2 year extension option that automatically vests if the new coach previously worked on Mel's staff.
Not to mention Bacon's book on the mess. Waiting for it.
OFFSIDES or IN THE CREASE?
I haven't read a single Bacon book, and had Bo been alive, they'd have never been published.
No, but. . . oh, never mind.

Unfortunately, they now have to hire a coach in August. But because practice just started I imagine the coaching search will get less attention than it would've in, say, May. There will probably be a front page post on this too, because while it's no fun it's important.
Thank god for football, it will make all of this go quicker.
Did you not know Mel's back up plan? He is going to open up Mel's Diner where Drakes used to be.
In an epic middle finger move, Mel becomes the next David and Nina Kohler (toilets) family men's ice hockey coach at The(tm) University of Ohio State.
Well then, you can all just KISS MY GRITS!!!
Yes, you may be dismissed, WindyCityBlue.
I think you're going to be disappointed.

This could have been done when the report came out in May. The Warde Manuel honeymoon is over.
August 5th, 2022 at 12:51 PM ^
dude, we know you have a big old anti-warde manuel hard on, but get a new schtick.
He can't. He has an anti-Michigan hard on. Goblins only speak in negative terms!
Can someone draw up a list of the Warde positives vs. negatives since he started? Off the top of my head, I can think of more negatives than positives, but perhaps I have selective memory.
His positives are just really obvious hires and decisions: Juwan Howard (who else were they going to hire that late in the process, Ed Cooley??) and Mel Pearson. Harbaugh’s contract restructuring cut base pay in half and increase incentives may have seemed risky but it was clear there was no NFL interest in him, he wasn’t going to walk.
My issue is how he welcomes USC/UCLA to the B1G exclusively for money yet shames recruits who have NIL at the top of their list (I would too). But even as Michigan rakes in more and more money from TV revenue, he’s continued to raise ticket prices, done nothing to improve fan experience, and is expecting fans to pay those increased prices while he worsens the future product on the field with his NIL high horse. Very hypocritical
Nothing is obvious about hires. I bet you thought RR was one.
I wasn't ever really anti-Warde but unless he's got a really good explanation for this debacle, I'm now firmly on the hate train.
I'm with you. I was probably irrationally pro-Warde but this will put an end to that.
Hate? Really? Folks, there's a big bad world out there, with lots of evil in it. Spare your nervous systems, jeebus.

I'm looking forward to at least three more threads covering the topic..... and hopefully a successor is named within the next 12 to 24 hours..... or there will be several threads a day speculating on Mel's replacement.....
And no law will require you to examine a single one of them.

Pitchforks and torches!
Which coach/player/admin/regent/president is next?
Go Blue!

bummer, but don't do the 'crime' if you can't do the time.
next coach up!
+1 for Helen Hunt!..oh yeah & context.

This whole thing looks bad for the athletic department. I think Warde needs to be held responsible for how this was handled. At least an explanation of what took so long after the report was delivered. I mean, if there was an agreement to not renew his contract and Pearson was appealing that decision in some way, then yeah, I’ll give Warde some leeway. But if this was just Warde hoping that he could somehow weather this and retain him then……. hoo boy. Not a good look.
And to extend your thought: If Warde now struggles to find M a good coach BECAUSE his resistance to firing Pearson took us into early August. . . he's hurting the program, a program that just minutes ago looked like it was entering a new golden era.

Could have and should have happened months ago. It’s crazy how much Manuel has damaged the hockey program by dithering for so long.

Yeah. In addition to the ethical concerns, you are putting yourself in an extreme competitive disadvantage for the season by waiting.
How would you know. Everything is an ethical disadvantage to you for The University of Michigan. You only show up for excrement and it's because you chew on it every friggin day!!!
And you're always here to counter with the fawning parasitic sycophant take. Just address the issue instead of following him around like a lost puppy dog.
Awww that's sweet.
Big words for please stop using your eyes. HE IS A CONTINUOUS HATER.
Mr. Hater knows a hater.
Turn off the computer, friend. Go and hug someone.
Does it really mean that much, to you??? Maynard follows me and comments. Yeah I'm gonna lose lots of sleep.
I'm always
GO BLUE
Hockey CC - Mike Babcock. he was in town buying fish at Monahan’s in Kerrytown last week. Already interviewing.
( a nice piece of lake trout I think ).
Wasn't Babcock associated with rumblings about player verbal/mental abuse during his Wings and Maple Leafs tenures?
Yes, that is my recollection so I think that's a non-starter. There should be at least a few good candidates out there but the timing probably means you are not poaching anyone from another decent program.
no - he's a jerkoff. None of his former Red Wing players like him
August 5th, 2022 at 10:44 PM ^
What's Scotty Bowman up to these days?
Feels like the odds are that either Muckalt or Naurato get the nod at this point right? Even if it's just interim head coach for the season. Not sure who else you are getting that is capable right now
Excellent that this is now over. Now we can get back to NIL and football.
Wardiiee, you got some ‘splainin’ to do!
Michigan hockey summer!
What a huge disappointment this is. WTF Mel

JFC, I just want something nice to work out for Michigan, so it's not always thrown in our face. I wanted Mel to work out and be his retirement spot, but he obviously wasn't capable of doing the right thing when it mattered.
I'm assuming it's not easy hiring your "guy" in August, is it?
