Maybe he wasn’t happy. Maybe he didn’t like gattis, maybe he thinks shea was actually the best qb on the roster and knows the offense is fucked next year. There are 100 things that could make him believe next year wouldn’t raise his stock at all that this article doesn’t consider

Obviously this didn’t factor into his decision at the time, but it is virtually certain that the season this year will be shortened at the very least, which will make talent evaluation for the draft even more of a crapshoot than normal.  So who knows if he actually would have fared better in the draft waiting a year.

Jordan Lewis deleted a tweet about why this happened and Tarik Black retweeted out a response implying Michigan fucked him up.

Hindsight and all that. Maybe he got some bad advice or thought more of his game than scouts did, but hey, he got drafted and has a chance.

He’s got all the things you need to get on the field that can’t be taught, So he’s got that going for him. And while he does need to be coached up, there could be some shifting of the current WR depth chart in Cleveland if they eventually decide to dump OBJ.

Wish he stayed, but it’s his career, his choice and his life. Hope it all works out for him.

Man, they sure went out on a limb with this one, lol.

Rumors had it that he badmouthed the coaching staff/Harbaugh during interviews, so I'm not sure at that is the type of person I would want back.

I have to say, I enjoyed the crying on 11W about their WR not going in the draft til round 7. Michigans draft numbers were driving them crazy. DPJ going Brown launched the site into a tear session. It was so sweet to watch!

As noted in other DPJ threads, I think he should have played one more college year but at a Mac type school and put up big numbers.

Is there any thought he just doesn't care and wants to get a move on? Meaning, doesn't he want to go to med school or something like that? If so, and if he got received his undergrad degree maybe he just wants to get the show on the road, have his NFL career then get moving on to med school?

There is no other remotely rationale thought process and the above is quite rationale. Say money wasn't really an issue and you have your degree and the next step is med school. In that case go to the NFL and it works or it doesn't or just, "whatever", and then go to med school.

I'm making a lot of assumptions but all that seems like a fair thought process.

Selfishly, I think he would have been better off in college another year. At the end of the day, he was drafted. I still don't know why the Lions thought Cephus is a better pick than DPJ or KJ Hill, and I think DPJ will prove them wrong soon enough.

DPJ would have been a great fit in Detroit. Lions just miss on drafting players than hitting on winners. Somethings will never change or make sense when it comes to the Lions.

I would have loved to see DPJ play for the Lions but he's probably better off with another franchise.

A lot of speculation here on the personal reasons why DPJ should / should not have left, but it's always surprising on these types of threads that nobody talks about the financial reasons. IMO - DPJ made a good financial decision, assuming he would not have been a 1st or 2nd round pick.

Once you get down to 3rd round and below, it's all about making a team and playing for that next big contract. Between the 4th and 7th rounds, you are really looking at about $0.5M difference over the life of the 4 year contract (and if a player performs really well, they likely won't play out that entire contract). That difference in contract is less than what DPJ will be making this year (~$650k) and he gets to start his career, generating stats and earning money earlier than if he stayed at UM.

Obviously he, and many of us fans, would have liked to have seen him drafted higher, but still can't fault him for the choice he made.

The rumors about Peoples-Jones have been percolating for more than a year.

Some Cass Tech guys are upset with how Peoples-Jones was handled, but I view that as guys sticking up for their guys. Cass Tech guys circle the wagons when they feel like one of them has been wronged.

I don't think you can judge whether someone should have left based on draft position alone. If he makes a team, leaving was the right financial decision.

My take is that he thought he was an NFL player in high school and was a three year player the whole time. If he becomes a better route runner, he can have a great NFL career.

What I don't buy is this whole "It's Shea's fault" thing. While Shea had a bad year, that doesn't explain why Nico and Ronnie were more productive with less natural talent. Not everyone gets Tua or Trevor Lawrence throwing them the ball. Shea wasn't good enough to beat Ohio State, but he was 2nd in the B1G in QB rating in 18 and 5th in 19. Even in his best year, 13% of his yards came on one catch vs MSU.

Too late for DPJ to change his mind. As they say: The horse is out of the barn so good luck to DPJ and make the most of it.

Sign of the times as too many collegiate Div 1 athletes in football and BB get ahead of themselves and rush into the pro ranks. Putting in your 4 or 5 years is very rare these days.
