Illinois Game Prediction Thread

Submitted by NeverPunt on October 11th, 2019 at 10:29 AM

What's your prediction for the game on Saturday, and perhaps more importantly, what are you hoping to see that would bode well for the rest of the season?

We handle the Illini easily 38-13.

Things I'd like to see:

  • Run game gets it going. Illinois surrendered 300+ yards rushing in their last two games vs Minnesota and Nebraska. Need to establish some kind of ground game anytime soon.
  • 6+ deep shots. Need to stretch the field and use the giant WRs. Whether or not they are successful, throw the damn deep ball
  • Tempo and a sensible game plan. Can we get some tempo? Can we have a smart game plan that attacks what Illinois gives us and then has a response for when they adjust?

What you got, MGoBoard?

40-10.

love to see 250+ rush yds, with 6-7 rushes of 15+.  theyll still struggle to rush vs tough Ds like msu, especially if they wont involve the QB in the run game, but this roster could use the confidence from stomping illinois.

id like to see a coherent game plan and QBs looking somewhat confident - nothing crazy, just some rhythm throws and positive momentum

I agree to deep shots.  Tell your receivers if it looks like interception make them do anything to break up pass including offensive pass interference. At least the threat of going long will back the safety's off line of scrimmage.

Corbin has a relatively good day running the ball for the Illini, but a shaky passing game means Illinois has to settle for field goals.

Offense struggles early, but gets moving late in the second quarter.  34-6 is your final.

I agree, NeverPunt. Strong run game, shots (plural) down the field, tempo. Expecting some of that, hoping for all of it —

If Illinois scores on a turnover, 31-7

Otherwise 31-3.

38-7, Michigan

I don't see the Illini getting into double digits with their QB situation. I think this will be like the Rutgers game, except I'll never predict a shutout because it's pretty hard to do.

I could be wrong, but I don't think this game will tell us much. It will be another blowout of a crappy team. We will learn more about our future from PSU @ Iowa if you ask me.

Michigan 24, Illinois 7

Patterson mostly looks like he has previously this year, but both lines dominate and allow Michigan to grind out points. A bad TO gives Illinois the chance to put points on the board.

I don't think this game today will be much of a measure for this team. We all know next saturday night will be the bell weather game for the rest of the season. If Michigan has a chance for respect it will come from winning on the road at night to a top 10 team.

A pretty easy win.

Illinois is more competent than Rutgers, but they're still on the lower tier of the conference.  They MIGHT get 6 wins, assuming they can keep Peters healthy.
