Rutgers Alternate Has Long Sleeves
If they wear the alternate later in the year I could see this type of uniform making a comeback at some northern schools. Thinking about it logically I’m surprised this hasn’t already happened considering how many guys just wear a base layer to stay warm.

I'm sure everyone will hate them and make fun of them.
I think the long sleeves are sweet, and really different.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:24 AM ^
Have to admit my first thought was negative but after about five seconds of consideration they just make a lot of sense for cold climates.
August 29th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
They look just like a guy wearing Under Armor. I don't know why this hasn't been a thing yet.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
I'm with ya Bodogblog, I dig em
August 29th, 2019 at 11:34 AM ^
Yeah not bad at all. I like the R too. Always favored schools that go traditional instead of the Uniformz
August 29th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
I think it looks good.
August 29th, 2019 at 1:38 PM ^
Sounds like lots of dental cavities for Rutgers this season.
August 29th, 2019 at 4:16 PM ^
I am on board too - I really like them
August 29th, 2019 at 11:23 AM ^
At least they'll be warm when they lose
August 29th, 2019 at 1:31 PM ^
Also fits, since -- metaphorically, I mean -- all their players spend all their games cooling off riding the bench.
August 29th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
You can do better than that... your comment was like trying to pinch a loaf while constipated...
August 29th, 2019 at 11:23 AM ^
Appropriate that it barely looks like a football uniform, given Rutger barely looks like a football team.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:26 PM ^
Well Hoke barely looked like a CFB coach, so.... The Situation's long lost cousin @ QB had his way in 2014.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:23 AM ^
Innovative and intriguing. Opens up a door for future throwbacks with Michigan.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:33 PM ^
Does Michigan need Rutgers to open doors for them?
August 29th, 2019 at 2:19 PM ^
Well they and Princeton opened the door for everyone in 1869 so...sure?
August 29th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind of.
August 29th, 2019 at 5:32 PM ^
When the players sweat, do the arms go from plain to "Rutgers" or "Knights"?
August 29th, 2019 at 11:24 AM ^
It's what Colonel Rutger would have wanted. What a great way to honer such a hero.
Anyone else bored at work?
August 29th, 2019 at 11:42 AM ^
I'm bored, but I'm also eagerly anticipating the annual "heuristics and stupid predictions" post from Brian.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:16 PM ^
I go between bored and fearing for my livelihood.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
OMG, the time till 7:30 Sat is crawling. It’s like waiting in the hospital without wifi.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:24 AM ^
Meh, I'm not hating on the unis. Just won't help them on the field.
They'll be lucky to win two games this year.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:25 AM ^
These are nice uniforms actually. I like the no-frills look: no stripes, no nameplates, a bit of off-white. Best thing Rutgers has done in a while!
August 29th, 2019 at 11:27 AM ^
The helmet and color scheme are nice. I'm not feeling the long sleeves though. Decent effort by Rutgers/Adidas, at least it's not embarrassing like Sparty's STATE jersey.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:38 AM ^
You spelled "STAEE" wrong...
August 29th, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
Fixed it when I posted this last week...

"Well, f**k that."
-Brady Hoke
(Probably)

He's not fat anymore, he might actually get cold now.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
Cool idea, but how cool will they look when the sleeves are torn to pieces?
August 29th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
These are cool. Good job Rutger.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:30 AM ^
They are not terrible, which is about the nicest thing you can say about anything Rutgers-related.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:32 AM ^
Makes me wonder if sleeves will make the ball harder to hang on to for the RB's.
August 29th, 2019 at 3:02 PM ^
That's what I was wondering and can players opt to wear the short sleeve version. If these catch on maybe they will start putting the material they use for receivers gloves on the inside of the sleeves for increased grip. Some of the players have to hate these. If they were the Raiders new jerseys Antonio Brown would never play.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
I actually don't mind this...even if the lineman would never want to wear them.
If they come with built-in hoodies, Brian will implode.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
Not a fan.
Interesting take on short sleeves in the cold in this article. Like a cultural thing in the NFL it seems.

Those look like SHI
August 29th, 2019 at 2:24 PM ^
Like their stadium?
August 29th, 2019 at 11:39 AM ^
Makes sense. Better protection for when they get thrown down onto the ground.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
Those... look great.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:42 AM ^
I would think there would be resistance as you try to raise your arms. They look ok though.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
They look like middle-school uniforms, but I guess that was the point. Throwbacks to a simpler age...
August 29th, 2019 at 11:46 AM ^
Huh. Neat idea.
Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:51 AM ^
They're hoping for an invite to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl and the long sleeves will be their strategic advantage.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:54 AM ^
Pass. The base layer is skintight under the shoulder pads though unlike the sleeves on this jersey. Having the sleeves over shoulder pads will restrict movement in the arms and possibly affect play. And it gives tacklers one more thing to grab.
August 29th, 2019 at 11:55 AM ^
I thought they were going to be baggy sleeves like Peyton Manning's uniforms over the years but these look good.
Well done, Rutger.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
I think those long red sleeves are going to give Rutger a decided schematic advantage. I bet they draw 100% more holding calls than the average team. Waving those red arms around in the air is sure to draw officials' attention.
August 29th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
Seems like playmakers will lose some feel for the ball. I get that they often wear gloves, tape, compression sleeves, etc. . . but, it seems like it would be better to feel the ball against skin (TWSS).
August 29th, 2019 at 12:06 PM ^
The uniforms look good and there's no real reason for Rutgers to suck ass, so I hope they get it together.
