BBall Recruiting - EM 5* Nimari Burnett Update

Gotta start with a Fab One to get a Fab Five.
We already have one though. Unless Zeb Jackson doesn't count.

Lance Were is also visiting that day. High 4 star.
I assume they’ll visit for the Michigan-Army West Point game on Saturday.

Lance Was...a lost soul. Until he found Ann Arbor.
Were not!

That seems like an extended official visit (9/5-9/8), which I am totally on board with.
I remember a similar recruiting weekend several years ago:
Here's to getting the same results!

Get one.
Let the dominoes Fall.
We already have one. Zeb Jackson is a dude. People need to stop forgetting him
I don’t people are forgetting him just there is a difference between the influence Juwan has with getting the next commit compared to Franz and Zeb.
That's true. The next guy that Juwan gets will be his first real commit
I upvoted you because Zeb in a very good player. But here, understand that Nimari is at a different altitude-this kid is a true difference-maker in every way. Zeb will be a solid point-Nimari is the consummate point. Nimari can play the 2 but he would be most dynamic at the point. I've watched the clips of most of the top kids in this class...if you are building a basketball team you start with Nimari-he makes everyone else better. He's likely a one-and-done but here (Michigan) you take that one and build upon it.
Fair enough, I just see people on this blog and on social media some times just completely disregarding that we already have a top 50 guy in this class and it irks me because Zeb is really nice piece to have and that we need to hold on to

Is Zeb really "in" a very good player or is he one in his own right? Plus, I don't think Michigan is taking six players in this class, so Zeb will have to be one of the next Fab Five.

Excellent. I'd think the duration of that visit is probably a very good thing. Taking a longer look at the campus, program facilities, living situation, etc. likely indicates strong interest on his part.

it is especially key for Juwan to get a big-time guard.
Juwan has such a tremendous credibility in terms of his work with NBA big-men (not to mention Saadi’s track record) that you have to figure he is going to recruit big men well.
I know it wasn't Juwan's recruit but isn't Zeb Jackson already in that class?
yes, he is a combo guard so one more guard is perfect plus a 2 / 3 swing player.
This will allow Franz to focus on the 3 and Livers / Johns to rotate at the 4 in 2020.
I think you have to recruit for the possibility that Franz is one and done.
Question for Matt (optional, of course): Assuming that Michigan (in a Beilein sort of way) won't play dirty like Kansas and other such schools, how much will that matter with this particular recruit?
That sort of thing has zero impact on Nimari’s recruitment.
Really appreciate these updates. I have a pop-up ad for Ed Martin Toyota as I’m reading this post. I don’t think that’s a good sign (or maybe it is).
Would be a monster get. Close the deal Coach Howard!
GO BLUE!!
Nimari and his family are good family friends with Juwan. Having an extended visit like this is a good sign
Man. Really hope we beat Army.

What does that have to do with the woman's softball team?
The good folks at UMHoops seem to think Illinois is a threat/contender for Nimari. I’m not a betting man, but if I were, I don’t think Illinois is a factor here.
I'm getting the vibe that this is a battle between Bama and Michigan
He plays in Chicago so I'm not sure why Bama is so much in play here?
Nimari is from Chicago, but plays HS ball near the Bay Area and his AAU team is based in LA. Geography is not a factor, at all.
He have some ties to Oats from somewhere?
Nope. Oats is an outstanding recruiter that maintains relationships and has frequent contact. I think the Beilein tenure may have influenced some to think that approach was the standard/normal. Each approach has its pros/cons but the approach under Coach Beilein wasn’t necessarily the most frequently used.
Never really studied the inside depths of his recruiting but I hated the offer after you visit rule. Was just curious on Oats because he came from Buffalo. Jury is still out on Howard's ability to recruit.
Beilein's approach to recruiting probably didn't lead to his landing all of the best players he might have. On the other hand, he was here for 12 years and I can't remember any off-court problems with any of his recruits. It's hard not to think there was some correlation. It's hard to isolate different parts of his approach and say which helped and which didn't.
Bottom line is that he had a lot of success on the court. There's a strong correlation to his recruiting results.
