OT: Gene Editing and Smart Monkeys - Planet of the Apes?

Personally I use ALZ-112, but that's expensive even with full Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage.  This is hope for our other simian brothers and sisters.

Scientists put human gene into monkeys to make them smarter, human-like

In reality I'm thinking this isn't such a great idea.

Yep, I'm taking advantage of this OT time of year.

COMPLETE WASTE of time and money. Why make apes more human-like when it's already easy enough to make humans more ape-like???

Hell, MSU's been doing it since 1855.

This is actually scary as fuck.  But I think we'll probably be one of the last generations that aren't artificially enhanced through gene editing.  Eventually those that can afford it will manipulate their kids into being tall and healthy with a 140 IQ.

The great unwashed masses will fall further behind as they'll be even more unable to compete with the new supermen.

My theory is that about a decade ago, clever monkeys escaped from the NIH research labs in Bethesda, MD and scattered. One by one, they all opened social media accounts on a variety of platforms.

They now spend their days commenting on the news. Their thinking is primitive. They don't spell well. But man, do they love getting into shit-throwing fights.

meh.  humans are gonna human.  we are natural experimenters.  we find out new technologies and try to apply them to things that we probably shouldn't, but from that, we learn more and more.

As a scientist, though, I am fascinated by this
