Offensive Analyst Ben McDaniels
As reported by Wolverines Wire (Link).
He's they younger brother of Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. McDaniels has been QB coach at Denver, and WR and OC/QB coach at Rutgers before this. He also had offensive analyst positions at Denver, Tampa Bay, and Chicago at points in his career.

Sorry, can't edit title or post. Offensive Analyst Ben McDaniels to coach WRs in bowl game. Mods, please fix if you can.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
Someone needs to fix this, where OPs cannot edit their, well, OP, and unfortunately, the mods are not the people to come to.
Well, I could do it, but I would rather the Brian / Seth level take this one on and make it a real fix.

While they are at it, can they fix the thing where you comment on a multi-page thread and it bounces you back to the first page, instead of back where you actually commented?
It defeats the purpose of those large multi-purpose Snowflake threads if every time you post a comment, you have to scan through multiple pages of comments to get back where you were.

Let's be honest, The whole site's a shitstorm.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:13 PM ^
It won't change. HUEL insists on playing press man coverage.

NOICE.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:30 PM ^
You’re right. It hasn’t been an improvement.
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:39 PM ^
Well, I greatly appreciate having the board be available--and being able to post to it--during high-usage times, such during and immediately after big games. That's a BIG improvement over the previous incarnation of the board.
December 3rd, 2018 at 8:46 AM ^
One step forward, four steps back.
December 3rd, 2018 at 3:26 AM ^
Amen to that. Worst message board software I've ever seen by, well, infinity.

Wish the ability to skip to page X (or last page) was also at the top of each thread in addition to the bottom.
During game threads, I have to scroll to the bottom of the first page to select the page # I want. Really a hassle, especially when you scroll too far and get into 4 screens of ads and other links.

Is there a trick to having comments load at 100 for a page instead of 50? Or, you know, all of them without a count limit
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:21 AM ^
Sure. Just change it to 100. Every. Single. Time. You. Load. A. New. Thread.
I am not quite as hatey on the new site as many seem to be, but that is a particular pet peeve of mine. The old site let you pick a number and stick with it. Actually, that is a reason I hate on the tech industry in general: they are constantly "upgrading" things while taking away other functionality. In general I don't make technology changes or upgrades in my life unless I can do it without major trade-offs.
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:11 AM ^
Or when you hit refresh and it kicks you back to the beginning of the goddamn thread?
The new site is so broken, it's much more painful to use than anything we've had in the past, and I'm counting all the times the site would just go down. Seriously, 3.0 really sucks.
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:38 AM ^
You can't be serious?
This 3.0 site is 1000X more moob-hoodie-friendly than any site that has ever come before it!
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:51 AM ^
mods: please pick your eyeballs up from the floor following the "roll out of your head" process and move to the "mgoblog 3.0 sticky for bugs" thread.

I always like posts when peeps are saying... "There are some pretty big deals around here, but I'm not one of them."
Humble peeps are good peeps.

His name's McDaniels, not McDonalds.

December 2nd, 2018 at 7:14 PM ^
I don't know if this means he'll be the WR coach next season, but it must mean that Roundtree won't be.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:41 PM ^
I think this is a good decision since Roundtree is still young and has no experience coaching WRs anywhere else. I think bringing him up in the system for a little while longer or having him get experience somewhere else and then come back makes more sense.
As for McDaniels, the one season he was Rutger's WR coach, Leonte Carroo had a 1000+ yard season. Though that may also have been due to them having a decent QB in Gary Nova as opposed to Laviano the next year. Carroo was also a very good WR on his own as he played in less games the next year but managed to increase his yards/catch.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:49 PM ^
I agree that it's early to promote Roundtree, but he was the WR coach at Indiana St before coming back to Ann Arbor.
Harbaugh has consistently gathered a lot of talent on his support staff. My guess is still that he'll look around for someone else to fill McElwain's role next season.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
Roundtree was the WR coach at Indiana St under Mallory before coming to Michigan
December 2nd, 2018 at 11:03 PM ^
Roundtree has been WR coach at Indiana St., and someplace called Linwood. He also did something at Colorado State for wide receivers. So he’s not a beginner. He actually has more experience coaching than Jay Harbaugh did his first season at Michigan
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:09 PM ^
It could just be a numbers game. If they make Roundtree an assistant, then they lose a graduate assistant. By making McDaniels interim, Roundtree can stay as a graduate assistant. So unless you can find a graduate assistant better than McDaniels...
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:58 PM ^
I'm thinking the same thing. I dont know all the rules but I can't imagine you can bring in new grad assistants mid year. You may not even be able to promote grad assistants to full time paid staff in the middle of a year. Seems like something the NCAA would have random rules about for little to no reason.
December 3rd, 2018 at 9:24 AM ^
how about roundtree for offensive analyst?
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:16 PM ^
I like the sound of this
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:20 PM ^
Maybe Tommy B can give something to Josh, who can then give something to his brother, who can then give it to someone with some decision-making power to throw the ball down the fucking field more
December 2nd, 2018 at 10:18 PM ^
I dunno, that smells like a delay of game waiting to happen.
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:42 PM ^
What's attendance like at "the fucking field"? Wonder whether Ticketmaster baits people into buying tickets.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
Good audition opportunity
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:24 PM ^
I mean if he going to take on a coaching role next season, I get having him do so in the bowl game. I did want Roundtree to get the opportunity to coach them tho. Of note is that he coached QBs and he McDaniels could potentially also replace Pep if he does leave as been rumored.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:29 PM ^
I like the idea of someone coming up through the system rather than just bringing in some wildcard hire which everybody here seems to favor doing for some odd reason. This is much better for recruiting and continuity. And this way if someone leaves, recruits don't automatically jump ship.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:33 PM ^
I’ve found that the best organizations I’ve seen (not college football) have a mix of the two. The continuity brings a sense of ownership, culture and tradition, and at the same time new blood brings in new ideas and methods (avoid the insestuous echo chamber that falls into the obedience trap).
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:58 PM ^
Mitch, it sounds like you’ve really made something with your life. We had serious doubts after the episode of night putting
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
Really don’t know why everyone is so thrilled with McElwain leaving. Our receivers got notably improved in all facets. It’s not his fault Pep and Harbaugh forgot you can forward pass now a days.
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:41 PM ^
The WR's sucked last year because they were literally all true freshman, almost all WR's make a huge jump in their second year...
On top of that you are really trying to compare our WR's who had QB's incapable of throwing a forward fucking pass last year to this year when they are receiving passes from the best QB michigan has had in probably 15 years?
December 2nd, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
15 years? People make it sound like Shea is the 2nd coming.
He doesn't have a strong arm and isn't particlarly accurate. Think about all the missed deep throws and receivers making shoetop catches.
I'm not saying he's terrible, but with perspective I think he's Speight with better wheels. Will he beat out DMC for the starting position next year?
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:11 PM ^
Run DMC.
I like it.
December 2nd, 2018 at 8:16 PM ^
1000% guarantee he beats out McCaffery.
