SEC - will the committee give them more love?

Will we get jobbed by the committee?  They can argue that we didn't cover the spread to a weak RU team, and Georgia whooped (not really a whooping) a ranked (rank as in P U) four loss Auburn team, so they must be better than Michigan and, THEREFORE, are deserving of the four spot in this week's ranking.  We all know that the committee wants two, if not three SEC teams...

I absolutely can NOT believe the amount of people here who are so dead set convinced that Georgia won't jump us here or that we'd be left out if Georgia beats Bama in the SEC Championship game.

I'm not saying that I think it absolutely would happen but I definitely think it's a 50/50 tossup.

We didn't need to win 42-7 yesterday. We needed to win 50+-0. We needed the "style points". We need them next week, we need them against OSU, and if we beat OSU we'll need them in the B1G Championship game.

Those 4-5-6 spots are a 3 way tie right now and only aren't listed as 4a-4b-4c because they HAVE to pick.

These things tend to sort themselves out. Let's see what happens over the next few weeks. What the committee will decide will become more obvious in that timeframe. I don't think it's impossible that the committee screws Michigan in the scenario presented, but it's not 50-50. The could screw ND or Clemson. If they leave Michigan out, then they've just blown up the CFP as they've not only screwed Michigan but also the Big 12 and PAC 12.

Alabama wouldn't have much an argument because they should've won their conference championship like everybody else (ND excluded - which is why they might get screwed).

LOTS of people on here are panicking about being left out IF we win out. If GA passes us this week, who cares. UM still controls their own destiny (for the most part). I think only scenario that is awful for UM would be a GA win over Bama in a freak way. Say our OSU 16 game. The brand of UM, Harbaugh, Big 10, etc. is huge for our chances. Plus, OSU winning yesterday helps us get a better win at end of season. Still think it would be 60/70% we get in with a GA win over Bama, but we all would be on edge Saturday night & Sunday morning. Nobody can deny that. If Bama beats GA, 0 chance WSU/WV/Okla passes us as a 1 loss team.

We're 46 points ahead of Georgia in the Coaches poll with 65 voters.  I'd call that a solid #4.

I'm not going to bother to look at the details, but almost surely Oklahoma was getting some consideration at the #4 spot. After having to defend a two point conversion for a 48-47 win over Okla St, most if not all of that support for OU at #4 was lost.  (OU's given up 46 & 47 points in their last two games.)

I don’t know how they will handle it, but my hope is the committee will treat the SECCG as a play-in game. Last year Georgia didn’t play Alabama so the committee didn’t set up a pointless rematch by including both. This year, what would be the point of having them play once and then again in a few weeks? The logic being, whoever just lost literally just got their shot at another playoff contender and lost, no point in playing it over again.

This will either be a situation or it won't.

If it happens, then every conference should eliminate championship games because head to head matches don't matter - nor do championships.

Loser of the SEC championship game will be out.  The committee will view it as a de-facto play-in game.

If you are the "Greatest CFB team of all time", then you would not lose your CCG on a neutral field.

Recall that when Alabama got in with a loss and no SEC championship, it was almost by default . . . it was over a two loss Ohio State who had a horrible loss at Iowa.  There was really nobody else to pick.

An Alabama that loses its CCG is not getting in over a Big Ten champion who's only loss was the 1st quarter of the first game of the year, on the road, at night, to an undefeated Notre Dame.

The committee wants to reward scheduling those kinds of games.  They will go out of their way not to penalize Michigan because of it if at all possible, otherwise nobody will ever do it again.

Michigan's message to the committee is this:

"Look, we went out of our way to do exactly what you want us to do.  We scheduled a tough OOG, on the road, at night, the first game of the year while everybody else was scheduling creampuffs.

We played the game extremely close and came up a little short.  We were perfect otherwise.

If you ever want anybody to ever do this again, you won't penalize us by leaving us out for another one-loss team that didn't step up."

Exactly. I don't get this part about Alabama getting in even if they lose the SEC championship game if everyone else wins out. Their resume takes a huge hit and if they're this so-called greatest team they don't lose this game, they win it decisively.

Georgia has a CFB playoff game already scheduled. It is called the SEC championship game. Win and in, lose and wait till next year.  If Georgia was 7th and beat Bama and GA was 12-1 they would be in. Georgia is probably the only 1 loss team that really does control their destiny, even more so than Michigan.  Beat Bama, and only have 1 loss and 100% they are in. Michigan wins out and 90% chance they are in.
