Michigan fans going to EL

Submitted by 2Blue4You on

With all this talk about us being scared and Sparty rolling us, lets hear from those of you who will be making the trek to EL this weekend.  Going to the game or not, who is going to be there in their Maize and Blue representing Michigan in a classy, slightly arrogant way?

Personally, I thought about watching it at home but tickets fell into my lap so i am busting out the Maize sweatshirt, Michigan poncho and car flag to trek up to EL to sit in the middle of what I assume will be a whiteout and cheer for a big Michigan win.  I expect to take my lumps and dish it back accordingly, with the understanding my whereabouts.  I am going to emotionally prepare myself in the event of a heartbreaking loss to walk out with a smile on my face and my head held high.

Having been to most of the games this year home and away and given the weather report, I am not in a huge hurry to get to EL and get my drink on and be verbally harassed.  I have done the whole Sparty tailgate at the tennis courts with the brahs.  It really sucks b/c if you don't want a urinating in public ticket you spend most of the time in the port a-potty line (grab a beer when you get out of the john and get back in line).  Never been into the Stadium for a game but I saw a concert there, so i am looking forward to critiquing the stadium with great bias.

Let's show them that we are not scared and make our presence known in EL and in Spartan Stadium tomorrow!  Go Blue, Wear Maize!

Explain.

I have never been in there for a game but I have been in EL plenty of times to tailgate for this game, drank very heavily, and run my mouth way more than I plan to tomorrow.  30 years old and never been in a fight. Is there something about attending an away game I am missing with this one?

Also got into an argument with a family member yesterday, my uncle is a MSU fan, he said 4 out of 5 to me, my response 6 out of 10. He then said leave it to a Michigan fan to bring up the past, so I simply said 1-0 Michigan.

Going, I'll be adorned in the maize and blue but taking the mich stuff off the ride. Too many friends have stories S being dumped on their cars, drinks/garbage etc, and one keyed door. Learned my own lesson in Columbus a few yrs back. I will have a very plain car while in enemy territory.

My son is leaving Ann Arbor after class today to visit former high school friends at MSU this weekend.  I tried advising against it, but we parents don't know anything.  I hope he's safe and the Jagaloons.

It was not a pleasant experience. The state fans in the upper deck were friendly enough, but outside the stadium it is full-on drunk aggressive bro town. Be prepared to get stuff thrown at you and avoid confrontation at all costs if you are one of the few going

Their stadium is a Soviet-era dump made uglier by those horrific scoreboards and screens (I'm not a fan of our scoreboards, either) not to mention the new luxury seating whose bricks simply make the place look like it is trying too hard.

Fans?  Not much more to add, but If Ohio Stadium is filled with 70,000 truckdrivers, Spartan Stadium is filled with 35,000 brahs and 15,000 farmers.  For the most part, you can avoid trouble in EL as long as you don't look for it.  The same can't be said for Columbus.

My favorite part is if you're unlucky enough to get stuck in the visitors' section in the corner of the upper deck, you'll have to navigate lines for the one tiny bathroom at end of the concourse, and then about a half hour of slow walking down endless parking garage-esque passageways to get out of the damn place. All to sit about a mile above the field in what feels like a cold, blustery tornado.

it always feels like it is going to fall down.  One of those news stories where there are reports of mass casualties in a structural collapse and people read it and say, "How could the victims have been so foolish?  Exposing themselves to danger in such a rickety old structure?"  All of those endless, endless ramps and walkways.  Hundred-year-old Tiger Stadium was like The Palace compared to even the renovated Spartan Stadium.

I am really fond of bringing my own, uh, refreshments to games.  Harmless personal enjoyment on my part.  Spartan Stadium is still the only place I've ever been searched.  They got a Honeycrisp apple off of me.  Congrats.

A word to the wise M fans who wear maize and blue to Spartan Stadium; expect tough treatment from the Stadium staff.

I'll be there for the game and tailgating before hand. It should be a good game and may end up being the defacto Division Championship game (much like 2011).

Always wear your colors when going to an away game! I've been to MSU before, Northwestern, and PSU this year and have never had too much trouble. Just be sure to represent Michigan well!

Go Blue! Beat MSU!

I'm making my second UM/MSU game trip to spartytown, and my fifth trip overall there. My father-in-law has season tickets, and is about as big of a sparty fan as they come. We sit just to the right of the tunnel, behind the north endzone. Most of the people sitting there are older MSU alums. Aside from a few jeers ("skunk bears" and "wolverines are extinct for a reason") and having to deal with guys talking about every football statistic favorable to MSU, it's not bad. Exiting the stadium is another matter. Be prepared to deal with a bunch of drunk idiots - win or lose.  Whatever you do, don't use a porta-potty after the game.

In my experience, I haven't seen sparties throw much more hostility toward Michigan fans than they do to fans of any other schools. Of course, the non-UM/MSU games I've been to have mostly came with very disappointing losses (Iowa / Nebraska). For those games, I'm more or less a dispassionate observer so obviously not a target of hostility like I will be for this game.

My advice is to go, tailgate if you want, enjoy the game, represent Big Blue...but after the game, make like the referees and split as quickly as you can.

Some of you all sound like a bunch of pussies!! Wtf?? Quit acting like your scared someone's gonna say something mean to you. That's bs I'm pumped for this game an although I can't be in the stands in EL if I was I sure as hell wouldn't take any shit from those punks. Remember we are playing our little brother. We are the BIG DAWGS in this fight an we as fans ought to act like it. If you are attending then have a back bone. Don't back down or shy away from them that's what they want.

I'll be partying tonight for Halloween, then waking up to tailgate sometime Saturday. I'm kind of the lone UM fan in my group of friends, though I'm sure all of them will have my back. Two or three of them are really just there for the party. They'll most likely root for state. I've never been to East Lansing on a gameday before, so I'm not sure what to expect exactly. I don't foresee any major issues, but I may grow tired of getting shit at some point. Who knows? It definitely helps to know that there will be plenty of other Michigan fans there. Hopefully I'm not on my own all day. No idea where we'll be watching the game, but hopefully not a bar. I can't see that being a friendly environment. It'll be a great weekend regardless, though.

I am going with 6-7 guys. Only a couple of us are going to the game. Not me. I haven't been in EL for a game weekend against MSU since the 1990s. I assume it will be more heated now.

We are old. And we are big. I don't think I will have to fight anyone

Anyone know if there are stadium greeters when Coach Hoke comes in.  I wonder if Hoke will tell them "Get the hell away from me"  like Danonio did to the Big House greeter?

Went to the 2009 game and had a pretty good time. Stayed and partied in the msu student neighborhoods and had a great time for the most part, an asshole or two is going to happen. It was the adults who were the biggest d bags on gameday. Wanted to go back this year but no one else I knew was interested.
