Late afternoon/evening games Open Thread
Couple of afternoon games are still finishing up and then two of our rivals play what should be interesting games this evening. In Knoxville, Tennessee has just tied Georgia 24-24 in the 4th. And Okie St. just jumped back in front of Kansas St by 1 late in the game.

Not if you have greater desire for Michigan to undefeated on the day that the Buckeyes travel to Ann Arbor.

But really does anything scream college football more than a night game at Ryan field?

Does anyone know who the guy in the weird suit was in that Heisman commercial?

Sorry, I can't place him either, but I damn curious... going by pics on web - maybe Rashaan Salaam

Of course...so many buckeye fans. I wish our fans traveled like that.

Usuallly Ryan field is 50% UM fans when we go there. Yes they travel better but there are no other sports outside of hockey in Columbus. Ann Arbor is effectively the outer edge of Metro detroit. So there is a lot of attention divided. Columbus is a bigger city, and not effectively the outer edge of Cleveland or Cincy.

While I'd love for us to ruin OSU's undefeated season and their title hopes, I'd be perfectly okay with watching Northwestern do it, too.

One of their cheerleaders literally just said, "Go Ohio."
and they wonder why we call them Ohio...

with a good defense that can penetrate and rush the QB.

A healthy JMFR might be our only hope

I dont think the current defense talent stands up to OSU's OL talent on paper. Thankfully the games are not played on paper - plus its at home and its the rivalry game etc. I think it will be a close game despite the talent disparity. Wisconsin is not that much different than UM in talent and they kept it close on the road. I am far more worried about the 2014 game on the road with a whole offense full of underclassmen outside of literally Devin, Bryant (maybe) and Funchess. I can't recall such a young offense ever at UM - it will have 2-3 starters who are not underclassmen.

QB, RB, TE, and some experience at WR in Jehu and Norfleet. The OT's will be first year starters, but that game will be at the end of the season. That is plenty of time for seasoning.Plus, having a QB who can move can offset youthful tackles somewhat.

Win the turnover battle is key, too.

NW gave up 21 to Maine. I expect OSU to score "slightly" more
October 5th, 2013 at 8:16 PM ^
Wisky blew it last week by not really testing Miller early before he gained confidence. He probably feels better this week, but last week he looked a step slow and couldn't cut as tightly as usual. However, NW doesn't seem to have the athletes to keep up either way.
Plus I hate (love) that Urban is willing and able to go away from tendency and mess with DC's

Wow. Holding Ohip to 3pts after that quick drive. I'm telling you, go after Braxton early make him scramble and throw under pressure.
October 5th, 2013 at 8:20 PM ^
Considering that the Wildcats typically have horrific pass defense, that first drive by Ohio State ended well for Northwestern in a strange way. Miller ends up 5-6 for 65 yards, zero yards rushing and zero third down conversions.

NW fans seem decently represented; I know they can never really fill that stadium when big teams show up because of the relatively small alumni base in the Chicago area. Still, sounds reasonably loud.
October 5th, 2013 at 8:28 PM ^
This will sound cliche, but NW has to score every time they have that ball. The Wildcats just don't have the defensive players to slow down OSU.

NW looks VERY small against OSU, but seems equally as quick/fast..
October 5th, 2013 at 8:29 PM ^
That's how you stop an "unstoppable" defense - dumb mistakes.
October 5th, 2013 at 8:30 PM ^
Don't give OSU excuses this early Brent.

Well, well, well. I wonder how much missing that safety is going to help out NU tonight.

October 5th, 2013 at 8:34 PM ^
Northwestern's cat sound has a higher SAT score.
