per ESPN's Adam Schefter. For a 1st rounder.

Mods delete if needed. I understand it's not OT season but this is pretty big news.

Taking him in the first place at that draft slot was an awful move. To admit a mistake (even though it is a different regime) and move on and still get value is not always easy to do and a great move.

...they can use him now. Ballard's done for the season, all they've got is Bradshaw and Donald Brown and I don't think they're willing to wait for the draft to fill the hole. They think they're a playoff team.
His value to the Browns is pretty limited--even if he really is as good as his draft position they can't get that value out of him with the roster they have. All they could do with him is wear him down, use up the best part of his career on a team that can't score even with him.
Probably a good trade for everybody involved--good for Cleveland, maybe good for Indianapolis, definitely good for Richardson.

Only irrational people weigh sunk costs in a transaction decision.

Also Brian Hoyer (ex msu qb) is starting for them this week. God they are so bad at drafting QBs it's unbelieveable. Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Brendan Weeden...brutal.

While true, he is still evidence that the Browns are bad at drafting QBs.

Brian Hoyer starting over Campbell as well.

Just picked up the Vikings D for this week in fantasy. Thanks Cleveland

I need to do that. I don't feel like starting the Bengals vs the Packers.

In all seriousness, 8 points per game seemed like an awfully high average to constitute a legit tanking of the season.

Also makes sense for the colts, who don't need to build around him, but do need weapons to surround luck with.

There's really not a concensus top running back, and definitely not one worthy of a top 20 pick. No point drafting a guy at 18 if you think a similar player will be available at 73.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:14 PM ^
And that running back will be 38 years old.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:38 PM ^
they will probaby trade both picks to get the #1 pick overall and take him there...

I actually think its a good trade for the browns. Richardson is still young and has a lot of trade value. But his production last year was nothing spectacular, 3.5 yards a carry. Running backs dont last long the way Richardson plays and this is a throwing NFL now. The Browns now have 2 picks in the first three rounds of next years draft which should help, but you never know its the Browns.
September 18th, 2013 at 7:44 PM ^
and with any other franchise, this makes total sense. But keep in mind that the Browns traded up to get him and then also traded up to draft a 28 yr-old QB who turns out, really is not good.
So anything, really, is possible, including trading down in next year's draft.
September 18th, 2013 at 8:01 PM ^
You have to keep in mind that the regime that was responsible for drafting Weeden and Richardson is out the door. I wouldn't expect this regime to be as inept, though Cleveland always has the ability to surprise me.

And personally I think Bridgewater is a system QB and wont translate to the NFL.

Good pick up for the Colts, but they will still lose twice to the Texans this year.

I do feel bad for season ticket holders like yourself because this just seems like a massive white flag for the season along with having to endure an MSU QB as the starter....yuck. That said here's the obligatory Browns fan.

trading for a mediocre starting QB or QB who is more of a backup *cough* Flynn *cough*. You're better off drafting a QB at 1st round than trading for one anyway.

Obviously the FO is throwing in the towel. But when April rolls around, the first option has got to be Bridgewater. Clowney would be nice, but doesn't fit our new 3-4 scheme imo, plus our Front 7 is the one bright spot on the team. Rumor is McGahee is coming for physical, and honestly, i don't believe he will be that much of a downgrade for the RB position. Trent has been injury prone he whole career and does too much dancing, instead of hitting the hole.

Colts are pretty set on offense now.

it's not just Joe Thomas and everybody else.
