OT - M Grad Prevents Potential Columbine Incident
Always great to hear a story like this but greater when a Michigan grad is involved. May we all have the balls to do this, but shall we never have to.
A law-enforcement source said the boy...nursed a grudge against some teachers and had planned to detonate all 10 pipe bombs before attacking students with the chain saw and the sword as they fled.Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/08/25/BASE19DFN6…

"He was just a really quiet kid. Not many friends. He kept to himself,"
Okay, dudes like this give dudes like me a bad name. I mean I keep to myself, not the pipe bomb stuff. Like, next thing I know, I will be forced to use the buddy system.

"planned to detonate all 10 pipe bombs before attacking students with the chain saw and the sword as they fled." Now, maybe I'm not the most inclined person with weaponry, but is a chainsaw the best option to hurt people? I mean, even worse than that, a sword? He would be able to hurt like 5 people max as they run away from him. That stuff is straight out of Grand Theft Auto.
This sounds like a sweet action scene in some movie, though. I'm glad this guy was able to stop the crazed kid and keep the kids safe.

When Bruce Willis is trying to fight the rapists when he's trying to find a good weapon.
The chainsaw was discarded 2nd I think but he did keep the sword...

What is this some horror movie? This wasn't in Texas right?
(Yes I know it's in SF, CA it was a joke about the Texas CHAINSAW massacre). As HartAttack20 said "Who uses a Chainsaw now-a-days I mean really!"

You should recognize that he's an important part of this board, and it would be less fun without him.

Was that you volunteering to be the new target?
I keed. I keed.

don't you ever say that "colombine prevention 101" class won't apply to real life.

He also didn't know that the suspect, identified as a 17-year-old former student at Hillsdale, was armed with a chainsaw and a sword with a 2-foot blade. How did he not know?

Seems to me that it would be awfully hard to conceal a chainsaw...

At first I thought it was crazy and fake, then I saw all the pricing and sizing of it and thought it was real, then I clicked on the link in the bottom right and realized it was fake again. Well done by that site.

Incredible bravery and selflessness, I am in AWE.

Great job by the teacher reacting quickly. That's a heroic reaction by anyone, but the fact that Michigan can take a bit of credit for the teacher is a plus.
Also, the kid had a chainsaw AND a sword? I realize he's a disturbed kid, but come on...

Does someone know this heroic person, Mr. Santana? I'm just confused as to how we know he's an M grad. It doesn't say so in the SF Gate article. Not trying in any way to rain on the parade; just curious. Perhaps MCalibur (the OP) knows him?

He's my older brother, and I'm proudest of him for what he said about my other brother. Feeling like the runt now more than ever. Looking up and living up to those two has made me.
