Aug 24 Warren De La Salle @ Ann Arbor Pioneer, and general High School Football Discussion
Any other mgoblog members going to this game? I expect that many in the Ann Arbor area will be there to see Shane Morris. I'll be there with my Dad and our tailgate crew, the boys are restless since they have to wait until September 8 for the first home game.
With Football season upon us and high schools in Michigan kicking off this week are any of you regulars at high school games. Who do you think will have big years? Which teams?
Also, what is etiquette for meeting mgobloggers in the non-virtual world?

I know Miguel well. He's a sophomore and he's worked himself onto the varsity this year. He's a great kid. Works his butt off.

I'll be there!

I feel guilty that the first high school football game that I'll be going to in 6 or 7 years will be the arch-rival of my high school alma mater (go River Rats!). But yes, I will be at the game on Friday cheering on Shane and my old high school coach, Paul Verska.

I haven't been to a high school football game, except the friday after Thanksgiving state championship games at ford field, since fall of '06.

As a fellow Huron grad, I think it will be quite entertaining if more people are there to cheer for De La Salle than Pioneer. There's nothing that sucks quite like playing a "road game" at home.

It's finally game week. I'm excited.
That is all.

I'll be there! How's the parking situation at Pioneer?
August 20th, 2012 at 3:19 PM ^
It always packed there on football fridays, but they have a hell of a large parking lot and I've once not been able to find a spot somewhere on the grounds. There's a good reason why U of M uses it as a tailgating lot as well as flowover parking for basketball.

My friend is a huge huron troll and he really wants me to go so I can watch pioneer get rocked. Just graduated college and he still loves trolling about a relatively lame high school rivalry. Once a troll, always a troll I suppose...
August 20th, 2012 at 3:34 PM ^
It wasn't a lame rivalry at all. It was actually pretty intense. It's one thing to be rivals because of history between 2 schools, but it's another when you're playing against your cousins as well your best friends. Even more so, when I was there, Huron and Pihi were both the two biggest schools in thge state and competed on a pretty state title level in a incredibly high amount of sports. Heck, the nickname River Rats came from the derogatory term Pioneer called the kids that had to start going to Huron when the school first opened.
Being almost 10 years removed from my last day at H.S., I don't care nearly as much any more, but I still appreciate the rivalry and will giving a joking thumbs down or a "Go River Rats" if I see someone wearing Pioneer purple.

I've never been to a home Pioneer game. How early should one get there to buy tickets? Does it get crowded? I assume you park the school lot.

Because I'll be at the Tigers game this Saturday I will be hitting the CC vs. Detroit Cody game Friday night to see Wyatt Shallman. I usually go to a high school game every week in which a michigan target/future player is playing. I think Cody sucks but oh well...
August 20th, 2012 at 8:45 PM ^
Are there any other future college players on DLS? Isn't there a wide reciever going to CMU or something?
August 20th, 2012 at 9:31 PM ^
Was just talking with my boss about said player today... Josh Cox.
