New Funchess Highlights SIAP
Reading Retro Blue on Maize & Brew and came across this film from the International Bowl.
I already had high hopes for Funchess and now even more so after this very impressive film.

He's definitely a guy worth getting excited over. He needs to add some bulk and work on his blocking a good amount, but I think as an upperclassman he'll be a very good Big Ten TE.

I'm going to pretend to be Thorin for a day.

I really, really, really want to see Funchess split out this year....
Would be an enormous mismatch

Once he gets bigger, he is going to be pretty unstoppable. He appears to have really soft hands and his seems like he has great speed for a TE. If he can block effectively he will be a huge weapon the next few years.

He just keeps getting faster. Not that hard to see him getting on the field this year either, right? Some freshmen receivers are going to play and it's obvious he's got some unique skills.

Who does he remind me of: Antonio Gates
Gates is an inch shorter with similar athleticism for the position with good big hands. Gates plays at about 260, but he was probably lighter than that when he entered the NFL (he played college basketball).
I think Funchess could be a similar sort of receiving threat to Gates (Yeah, that good).

Totally - like Randy Moss but bulkier, and a little faster. Kind of like how LeBron would be if he played football...but better at dunking.

He seems a little on the thin end to me. I'm hoping he bulks up a little but his hands look great and his athleticism is very apparent

Where he may be most effective split out is not even catching the ball...he showed tremendous blocking skills on the edge.
As a DB, to have a guy who's quick and can get his long arms on you and drive you, that's tough to beat.
Everyone here seems to think he redshirts because he's the same thing as Ricardo Miller, I disagree, I think he plays.

Seems like he runs better than Ricardo to me.

As a senior at Kent State, Gates played at 240.

These aren't that new. I'm pretty sure TTB had these posted at least a few months ago.
Anyway, the guy he most reminds me of is actually former USC WR Mike Williams (at least in these highlights). When you watch these you'd almost like to see him get some time on the outside.

MGoVideo had them, that's how I found them. FWIW they also have...
Royce Jenkins-Stone
James Ross
And Terry Richardson

Ross looked outstanding in those highlights....
Any word on him out of camp thus far?
