Next year could be a totally different team. Possibly no Lidstrom or Homer, definitely no Stuart...that should open up quite a bit of cap space. I wonder if we'll take a run at Suter or someone like him

Yeah, given everything that went down I doubt he'll be getting a call. Plus he'll be a RFA next year too
April 17th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
Suter will surely be high on Holland's shopping list.
April 17th, 2012 at 10:41 PM ^
Him and Parise I bet will be getting a call from Mr. Holland
April 17th, 2012 at 10:51 PM ^
Parise, Alexander Semin, and maybe even Nash too. The problem with Suter is that, after beating the Wings, why would he want to go to the Wings? Nashville is clearly on the up and Detroit clearly on the down - he has a much better chance at a Cup with Nashville at this point.

Hopefully, if we don't pull of the comeback, Nashville gets shellacked in the next round. And given that Nashville will be spending the majority of their time trying to court Weber, and he might be willing to come here.
But I doubt we'll have a shot with Nash. Columbus is still hoping they can build a team around him, so to part with him it'll take an arm and a leg

I'm not saying we need to go back to the drawing board, but this team needs a new direction with a big name guy. The last month or 2 of this season was the absolute worst Wings hockey I've seen in a long time, which is why I'm not at all surprised by this series with Nashville. There is just something missing.
There will be some huge names out there this summer and I'm praying the Red Wings will be making one of the bigger moves.

At least the Tigers' big guns came through tonight.

With a couple exceptions -- the ridiculous lack of discipline on the second goal jumps out -- this is nothing more than terrible luck. If we keep playing like this, we have a great shot of winning three in a row. We have been as dominant as any team thus far.
Oh and PS, just once I want to hear a sportscaster acknowledge the role of luck. "Well, team x played like garbage, but sometimes you hit on 20 and get an ace."

Mickey Redmond said near the end of the game:
I've seen a lot of bad breaks go against the Red Wings over 30 years, but, boy, these four games might take the pot. There's been a ton of them.
April 17th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
It just goes to show that you can win a series with only luck and goaltending. Look at the stat lines -- unreal. Nashville fans probably think their team is really good at hockey.
April 17th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
Is Babcock safe if they lose this series?
April 17th, 2012 at 10:42 PM ^
Some of this shit isn't his fault. Or anyone's fault. Just terrible luck that you can't be blamed for.
April 17th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
I would say so. If they lose (I know it's probably gonna happen, but we came back from down 3 last year, it's not over yet), it's only 3 early exits. The Wings aren't a "lose a series, fire a coach" type of team, and I don't think management will overreact to that
April 17th, 2012 at 10:49 PM ^
Holland better at least make some moves. If they stick with what they have now I see an early exit next year too.

Cannot wait to watch the Lions drop 40 on the Titans in September.

This series is like watching Lil Bro beat us the last few years. Very heartbreaking.

Meh it's still early. They will have a 10 game lead in a couple weeks.

Off topic? It says in the thread, Tigers. Nice job asshole.

"Why the hell can't we ever just go out and get a top 5 goalie that isn't on the down side of his damn career?"
We did for the 2001-2002, and it worked out pretty well.
I agree this does happen to us a lot though. It's just because we've had such stellar players for so long. Nobody is going to beat us without a hot goalie.
