Semi OT(pun not intended): Texas Offensive Line Recruiting
Like Michigan, Texas seems to be putting together a monster OL in 2013. The headliner is Jake Raulerson who will probably end up as a five star. In addition they have secured commitments from two other 4 star OL recruits in A'shawn Robinson and Kent Perkins.
They typically benefit from a boatload of instate talent but their OL class may match upto ours if they are planning to get more.
Is Texas also rebuilding their line?
I don't know if they are rebuilding their lines, but Texas always recruits well.
Our OL haul in 2011 was good, and 2012 might be better. I think Hoke is looking to reload his OL rather than rebuild in the comming years.
I think Texas' O-Line is actually fairly young. I think this is just another recruiting year for Texas. For example, last year they signed 4 4* OL, 2 of which were top 100 players, and I believe they only lost 2-3 kids. I don't think it's an unusual thing for them, and based off their depth chart, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended it at this.
Recruiting has never been an issue at Texas. Probably the best job in the country in that respect.
Unless high profile kids have ties outside of Texas they are Longhorn locks. Being from Texas and playing in Austin is every kid's dream. Just like instate players from Michigan want to play for UofM.
UT does bring in some incredible hauls, but A&M, OU, and LSU have snagged some top kids. It's not like UM and MSU
You're Texas' Sparty.
There is just so much talent in Texas that it is impossible for UT to get them all.
Like Texas, Florida has so much talent that the school other than the big 3 can field decent teams with the craps. Even Purdue has been living off of the players who don't get offers from the big 3.
my eyes!!!
Jake Raulerson is a beast and if you get a chance to see tape on him you will see for yourself. There is a guy I work with (die-hard Texas fan) who thinks Jake will be top-ten recruit in the country.
Texas recruits every position like this. They get mostly 4 star and always a few five stars. I would think that Texas has to be by far one of the most disireable coaching jobs in the country. The city of Austin is awesome. They have unlimited resources and it has to be the easiest job as far as recruiting goes. The food is great the women are hot. I think Texas needs a younger more energetic coach to take the program up a few notches. It will interesting to see who replaces Brown.
I'm not sure how you could take that program up any notches. Sure, they haven't been great the past two years, but Brown's achievements at Texas have already earned him a place in the hall of fame.
Texas returns four OL starters from last year, and could return all five next year. It's just that OL (along with QB) is the strongest position in the class of 2013 in Texas, so it makes sense for the Horns to grab some quality if they can. Texas is probably only going to take one more OL this year (Darius James).
but the year before that was a BCS title game appearance. And a BCS title game win not too long before that. The track record of Texas' highly rated recruits is pretty good, actually.
