excuse me while I go EEEEEEEEEE all day tomorrow.
I'm excited to see where Dempsey fits into Klinsman's style. Personally I'd like to see him as a 10, similar to where Fullham plays him.
February 28th, 2012 at 9:26 PM ^
Per this MNT European Update, Dempsey's doing really well: 16 goals including two hat tricks. Looking forward to seeing him play.
February 28th, 2012 at 9:37 PM ^
Dempsey is most effective the further forward he is in the formation. Italy will be extremely difficult to score on, even if Donovan was playing. They didn't allow a single goal at home during Euro qualifying.

The Algarve Cup is 4 games in 8 days, but you do get 6 subs a game.

Very excited to see in Jurgen has made any significant changes and if the UScan come out strong against those Olympic Divers.
Remember 2006! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqnmbjE8i6E
Yes... the World Cup is the pinnacle of integrity in both refereeing and bidding for the games.
February 28th, 2012 at 10:06 PM ^
Definately looking forward to the game. The Italian defense will be tough to crack. It would have been nice to see Dempsey and Donovan on the same field for the first time in a while. However, Italy has injury issues of their own with Rossi and Cassano out.
February 28th, 2012 at 10:22 PM ^
Italy will be a great test for the Yanks.
Additionally, hard to believe that Freddy Adu is still under 23. At that age, it seems like he should still be starting his career.
February 28th, 2012 at 11:11 PM ^
Wouldn't be surprised to see Adu surpassed by other players, which would give an extra little bit of weirdness to the whole thing.
February 28th, 2012 at 10:38 PM ^
None of them will be televised? Why am I paying so much for cable?
February 28th, 2012 at 11:27 PM ^
Maybe ESPN is banned from Portugal? Well, maybe there will be a stream from some other country.
February 29th, 2012 at 12:08 AM ^
The Italy game is on ESPN2 I believe....
February 28th, 2012 at 11:28 PM ^
LOL @ the haters. I fart in your general direction!
February 28th, 2012 at 11:49 PM ^
Forza Azzurri !!!!!!!!!!
February 29th, 2012 at 12:08 AM ^
- Any guesses on what the Starting XI will look like?
Howard
Cherundolo/Boca/Goodson/Spector
Edu
Bradley/Johnson
Dempse
Altidore/Buddle
In a 4-4-2 type formation. The no natural wingers thing paid off against Slovenia, and I'd be shocked if Klinsmann didn't continue it.
- That U-23 has some real talent with Hamid, Adu, Agudelo, Diskerud, and McInerney.
It'd be that tune-up was on a different day so Klinsmann could catch some of the youngsters in action. Building for the future and all that.
- Also, what the hell is that Algarve Cup? That sounds made-up.
February 29th, 2012 at 6:52 AM ^
Klinsman likes his 4-3-3/4-2-3-1...
-------------------------Timmay---------------------
-Cherundolo---Goodson--Boca--Parkhurst-
--------------Bradley-------Edu--------------------
---Kljestan--------Dempsey----------Shea------
------------------------Altidore-----------------------
That's who I think will start. I would LIKE Fabian Johnson to start in stead of Maurice Edu.

How has Jozy been doing in Turkey? Really surprised he wasn't able to find a slot somewhere else in Europe...
More of a Premier League fan, so am very familiar with Dempsey's exploits for Fulham. Curious to see if he finds himself on a bigger-name team next year; he won't get a sniff at the UCL if he stays at Fulham.
February 29th, 2012 at 9:14 AM ^
He was signed by AZ in the Netherlands at the start of this campaign. He has 9 goals for a second place club (fighting for a spot in the UCL)
February 29th, 2012 at 12:22 PM ^
Scored 2 more in a draw recently. He's up to 11.
February 29th, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
oh sorry, it's adu that's in turkey right?
glad to see jozy getting meaningful minutes and contributing
February 29th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
Adu is back in the MLS.
Both played in Turkey at points during their careers, Adu actually did very well for Rizespor last year, which was why Bob Bradley gave him a chance at the Gold Cup.
February 29th, 2012 at 11:11 AM ^
Today is a win-win for me. I live in America, but my family is Italian so I root for them as well. Excited to watch some footy today.
February 29th, 2012 at 12:30 PM ^
You've had a rough few years with the Azzurri.
February 29th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
We'll always have 2006........ But yeah, Italian national team has been in rough shape since
February 29th, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
Too bad Donovan couldn't make it. He had a very good stint with Everton. Also unfortunate that Onyewu got hurt again.
Some great names on the under-23 team. A midfield of Joe Corona, Mix Diskerud, Dilly Duka, and Amobi Okugo would be too cool.
February 29th, 2012 at 1:59 PM ^
your USMNT v Italy:
Howard;
Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra (c), Johnson;
Bradley, Edu;
Williams, Dempsey, Shea;
Altidore.
February 29th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
Italy lineup: Buffon; Maggio, Barzagli, Ogbonna, Criscito; Nocerino, Pirlo, Marchisio; Motta; Giovinco, Matri.
February 29th, 2012 at 2:09 PM ^
took care of business too, 5-0 over Denmark
February 29th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Goals by Morgan (21', 82'), Wambach (46'), Lloyd (74') and Leroux (91').
