Jaron Dukes Update
Hey guys, I just got off the phone with 2013 WR Jaron Dukes, who made his first ever visit to Ann Arbor today. He liked it: Jaron Dukes

He only liked it? Oh great, it's over.

A WR over 6ft? The hell you say....I will cry when i see that in a winged helmet again.

You must have been a basketcase last year with Hemingway catching all those balls.
February 10th, 2012 at 8:14 PM ^
We signed two of them just last week.

Quit telling stories!

Apparently sarcasm is lost on some people.

I respect his coach and family wanting him to take it slow, but we might only take two receivers in this class, and with Sugar Shane (and our coaching staff) recruiting a lot of top players, those spots won't last forever. I think Dukes is a good player, but I don't know if he's a "we'll save a spot for you no matter how long you wait" type of player.

I'd be surprised if they only took 2 WRs in this class.
February 10th, 2012 at 9:14 PM ^
But only a little surprised, right? When you look at the breakdown, if we take a class of 22, that's one guy per spot on O and D. If we take three receivers in 2013, that means there are other position groups where we'd have to take fewer.
I doubt we take fewer than 4 DL, or fewer than 4 DBs, or fewer than 5 OL if we don't get Kozan. We have one QB (and we might take another), we'll take 2 RBs and 2 TEs. That's 18, which leaves room for 2 WR and 2 LBs, assuming we don't take a second QB. We might take 3 WRs, but I'm not sure where we get the other spot from unless the class grows above 22. Which it certainly may.

Is it still going to be a 22 person class with us missing out on the last week of recruiting 2012?
Id imagine the number will be closer to 25.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:10 PM ^
If we don't get Kozan, it starts at 17. We have a couple guys who might not get 5th years, but not more than a couple. So it could be higher than 22, but probably not by too much.
February 11th, 2012 at 10:46 AM ^
If you assume 2 non-renewed 5th years, expecting only 3 guys to leave the program in a year is pretty optimistic. I'm not sure how many we're averaging every year, but it's certainly higher than 3.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:29 PM ^
Couldn't 4 OL be sufficient with the number we took this year plus the two monstrous walkons we've taken in the last two classes? Seems to me with that many young guys, as long as you keep filling the line with 4 more guys each year the depth issue will be solved pretty quickly. I don't know much about this though. I'm just curious.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:06 AM ^
Walk-ons contribute so rarely that you don't even want to count them. And taking 4 in 2012 isn't a lot considering we took two and zero in 2011 and 2010, respectively. We need 5, but I'd take 6 if we can find enough good ones.
February 10th, 2012 at 8:33 PM ^
He came in to the visit with the mindset that he would not succumb to emotion and commit. That does not mean we will not have a new 6'5 WR in the class soon

I think this fits hoke's requirement of a "fanatical" approach to recruiting guys who are Michigan Men. Kids like this with love for the program are exactly the type we need. All be it few and far between that they are this open about it and shed their ego's, this gives me great hope for 2013 wr core. As always, tremendous another reason i don't have to pay for any info.

My brain put an 'n' in your user name both times I saw it in this thread. Good for crops.

I love 6-5 wide receivers.

I love the other three people on earth who have the same first name as me. He needs to GOOOOOOO BLUE!!
February 10th, 2012 at 10:39 PM ^
Thanks Aqua! Keep up the great work! Also, Jaron sounds like a great kid. Like others have said, I love getting talented, tall WR's, but I love it even more when they truly have a love for Michigan like Jaron. Go BLUE!

How good is Dukes supposed to be?
February 11th, 2012 at 12:39 PM ^
I don't know what others think, but based on his offer list and an incredibly short highlight film, I'd guess 3*. But what do i know
February 10th, 2012 at 11:16 PM ^
this kid. Could be a great big target for Sugar Shane.
February 10th, 2012 at 11:32 PM ^
Seems ridiculous to me that they're making him wait to commit. If they're talking about waiting for a week or so, ok. But any longer than that seems stupid given how much he has always loved the school.
February 11th, 2012 at 12:41 PM ^
Nobody is making him wait, his coach simply told him not to allow emotion decide his choice for him. He wants to come back and look at the facts. That's a smart way to do it.

"He went down on the 50-yard line and laid down on it, looking up at the sky. When I talked to Jaron on Tuesday, this is what he told me he wanted to do more than anything."
It must be amazing to go to your dream school and just lay on the field. I really hope we get him. Taking him out of Columbus would be great. Great work Aquaman. As usual.

Good to see someone from my "HOOD" make it to the next level, hope he stays away from Darth Maul, cause these idiots hear in Columbus think he's GOD, and he shits gold bar's.
