Rose Bowl Open Thread
5 PM on ESPN.
Well, here it is - the Rose Bowl Presented By Vizio.
This is the battle of conference champions, of the 11-2 teams. Wiscosin versus LaMichael's Legs, or Oregon, if you prefer.
I don't have much in the way of sarcasm directed towards this game - it actually seems like it should be a good game, although I have to wonder if Wisconsin will be able to keep up with Oregon for the entire game.
Can Monte Ball break the record for TDs in a single season of FBS play? We shall see.
Will Bret Bielema find an innovative way to be a d-bag? Very likely.
I took Oregon. Call me nuts.

...you know that you shouldn't leave, say, 15 yards between yourselves and one of the best RBs in the game, right?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:34 PM ^
Is he looking to the NFL? Or is it all baseball from here?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:34 PM ^
What's the O/U for this game?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:35 PM ^
The Alamo Bowl. And I take over.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:38 PM ^
It's terrible to think that the Alamo Bowl would not accommodate "the over" in a game scenario.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
I love winter and all, but man does the weather look nice out there
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:39 PM ^
Then I hate it.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:41 PM ^
I'd feel better if it actually snowed some instead of this rain crap lately
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
...the Alamo Bowl pace. They took 8:26 to get three TDs.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:38 PM ^
Did they start the game wearing capes?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:43 PM ^
It was their tribute to Pasolini films.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:40 PM ^
OMG! Defense?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:40 PM ^
If Wisconsin and Michigan both win their games the Big 10 finishes 5-5 with 2 BCS wins. I'll take that considering how this was a down year for the conference.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
Yeah, that'll be a pretty good year, especially (as much as I hate to say it), with MSU's win today.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
We hadn't fared so badly against the rednecks. If that Georgia kicker makes the FG, we lose all games against them today. Dang I hate that league...
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:41 PM ^
Nice to join you all for another Rose Bowl.
I don't like Bielema at all; but I'm rooting for the B1G. Good to see us take it to the Pac-12.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
...for taking it to the SEC.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
Cheers sir. I'll be rooting for your wolverines tomorrow night.
It is satisfying to beat a good SEC team, though GA is one of the more respectable teams in that despicable conference.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:50 PM ^
That's why the Big 10 can go in and beat Georgia. With the SEC West's serious oversigning, if a team has a descent coach, they're going to be incredibly hard to beat on the best of days.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
I agree - that's why the Alabama game last year was hardly troubling to me at all. No one from our conference would have put up a fight against them. More importantly, to me they're not even legitimate participants in college football.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:44 PM ^
Way to pull one out against GA. I'm guessing that game gave you many a mini heart attack?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
I think coaches should always go for two in MSU's situation at the end of regulation. Two yards for a win seems like a no brainer rather than guarantee the other team an equal number of shots.
That said, MSU played a great second half.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:50 PM ^
...and the chances on a two-point conversion were better than 50%, then coaches would maximize points by going for two all the time (except in unusual situations where the extra extra point is near-worthless, like a tie game).
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
Most of the research says coaches don't maximize points so much as minimize variance.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
The research also says two-point conversions are good about 40% of the time, or that's what I seem to remember from the mathlete's diary a while back.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:51 PM ^
I was thinking the opposite. They had all the momentum and had GA reeling, so ride that momentum into OT. That's a lot to risk on one play.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:48 PM ^
Actually I had this strange feeling all day that we were going to win, and when their kicker missed the kick in the first OT, it became inevitable for me. At that point, I was just curious to see how we'd win, but not worried at all.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
Wiscy can run right through their D and they go to the pass. Ugh, Bret. That is all.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
Think he would have learned his lesson from last year's rose bowl...
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:47 PM ^
Those helmets are really starting to piss me off.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:48 PM ^
I love those helmets and facemasks
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
...is for Nike to introduce a reflective silver football.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:53 PM ^
I fell like a fish mesmerized by shining things and can't look away. It also makes my cataracts act up!
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
They are awesome. I think the next step is to add seizure inducing LED strobe lights though.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:51 PM ^
deanthony thomas is so damn fast
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
Am I wrong, or was Paul Chryst drinking a beer up in the booth?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
That is some serious speed. I want that.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
What speed.
I'd like to see this game played at Soldier Field or Lambeau.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:55 PM ^
Even though Bielema is a massive douche, I hope Wisconsin blasts Oregon and their stupid uniforms into oblivion.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:55 PM ^
Glad Ron Dayne dressed up for his induction.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:56 PM ^
Jesus Ron Dayne. You're getting put in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame. Rustle up some khakis at the very least.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:58 PM ^
I noticed the same thing. I yelled at my dog but she didn't listen, or care.
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:58 PM ^
Was just going to post on this but my slow internet failed me. Moments like that make me glad I went to Catholic schools that taught me how to look presentable. It's always better to overdress than undress I say.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:03 PM ^
Overdress, then undress.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:10 PM ^
Laughed out loud at that one once I realized my mistake. Not a good one to make. Touche sir.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:04 PM ^
Even still, he's classier than Bielema will ever hope to be. 83-3 over Indiana. Really, Bielema?
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:58 PM ^
is there another way to watch this? firstrowsports is down
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:02 PM ^
vipbox.tv
Every sporting event you could ever possibly want to watch...
January 2nd, 2012 at 5:59 PM ^
I've gotta say, if our eventual pro-style offense looks like Wisc, I think I'll be happy with it. It's effective, and is still aggresive.
January 2nd, 2012 at 6:01 PM ^
Probably more like Stanford's.
