OT - Tigers vs. Yankees Game Two
Cabrera with a two-run shot into the short porch to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first inning. It'd be nice if the offense can keep it up and put a nice big number up to give the Tigers home field advantage in a 3 game series.

Verlander is starting game 3, right? Assuming thats true, I really like our chances if we can get a win here. Big game.
October 2nd, 2011 at 3:47 PM ^
Yes, Verlander vs. Sabathia game three.
After a 2 walk first inning, Scherzer looking good. Though, Garcia is also dealing. I'd be a lot more comfortable if the Tigers can get some baserunners here in the top of the third.

1-2-3 inning with cano - arod - teixiera? not bad, scherzer, not bad. need some more runs!

After putting down 10 straight, Scherzer gives up a walk then a HBP.
Got a lineout. Needs to get Jeter with two outs and two on. Talk about a huge AB...
EDIT: Wooo! Got him to ground into a force. Scherzer is dealing, but he's needed 81 pitches to get through 5. However, he's been pushed well past 100 before, so it'd be nice to get to the eighth....
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
I can focus on just one game instead of two. This day has got my heart rate up
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
Why is this broadcasting crew talking about things that shouldn't be talked about? Who the hell are these guys?
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:45 PM ^
Don't know what you're talking about. LALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.
P.S. Man on 3rd no outs, let's get him in!

to be a Detroit fan. And the NHL regular season hasn't even started! Weird...
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:49 PM ^
Yet to be a real Detroit fan, you don't actually watch the NHL regular season. Late May comes around, then it's time to tune in.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:03 PM ^
That's when the NHL regular season starts right? I really like the whole tournament style season that league has going on.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
Right?
October 2nd, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
But Jeter is the best defender EVA...
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:04 PM ^
TNT. Worst network.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
These announcers are such ridiculous Yankee homers it's making it hard to watch the game. They're actively trying to jinx Scherzer. Not that it makes a difference in the game, but it is petty and annoying.
EDIT: So yeah, it worked.

do you hate New York or TNT/TBS more?
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:12 PM ^
Living in NY, I don't think people realize just how homerish the media is for the Yankees. People I've met who have lived here there whole lives think it is completely normal for announcers to be rooting for a no-hitter to be broken up, for the Yankees to never have committed an error, and for every close pitch to go their way. Whenever the Tigers have been on in the city, I've had to watch the Yankee feed so I'm not surprised. But this is obstensibly a national broadcast, yet it sure does feel like a YES network game.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
The Detroit media are hash-tagging tweets with "BeatNY#"
They're all jokes, man.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
Detroit media. Of course Detroit media would favor Detroit. I would expect New York media to have a Yankee bias. But on the national broadcast, you'd expect something approaching neutrality.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:17 PM ^
I think Austin Jackson's strikeout rate is pathetic. The management needs to re-evaluate his future with the team. Yes, his defense is awesome, but at some point a leadoff guy has to make better contact.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:21 PM ^
he should work on his bunting and do that a lot more. Even with a runner at second and one out ... I would have bunted just to make Rodriguez make a wild throw
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:30 PM ^
Tigers need to shut this down right now.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
Leyland is calling a solid game today. Sometimes Leyland trusts his relievers too much but actually gave Scherzer the 7th. When he struggled, he went to our best non-Valverde reliever instead of going with Coke or something even worse.
Go Benoit!!
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:39 PM ^
He did the same thing yesterday, but it didn't work out. Instead of going with the lefty-lefty matchup he brought in the best K option in the bullpen - Al Albequerque. It didn't quite workout.
Today it worked out great with Benoit. Long story short, manager's make logical decisions and it is up to the players to make the manager look good. Just like the saying goes, when you win the players get the credit. When you lose, the manager takes the blame.
I think the best non-decision of the series that has proven correct thus far was to NOT send JV out today as an emergency starter being down 2-0.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
benoit >>> albequerque We didn't need a K with 2 outs just an out (Cano is great but not a god). Also, Alberquerque is prone to walks...fister is not. The previous batter was the first non-intentional walk he gave up. Fister should have stayed in.
October 2nd, 2011 at 6:26 PM ^
Um, no way Fister should have stayed in.
Fister had given up 3 hits and 2 walks in that inning. He had walked Granderson right before Cano came up. He had to be pulled, he was done. Especially since Cano bombed one the other way his previous AB against Fister.
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:56 PM ^
Before the grandy walk ... it was a non-intentional intentional walk. Leyland should have either taken Fister out before Granderson or just stuck with the guy.
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:57 PM ^
regardless of the two hits ... I'd still take Fister or Verlander with less than 100 pitchers over any reliever save Benoit or Valverde
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:48 PM ^
We're not down 2-0 though...
October 2nd, 2011 at 6:27 PM ^

What is the score? I'm in Minnesota and can't get the game at the hotel I'm in.
October 2nd, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
Granderson just homered
October 2nd, 2011 at 6:02 PM ^
I'm surprised the announcers' orgasm over that homer couldn't be heard in Minnesota.
