Early Week Injury Update
It's still early in the week, but a nice little update on the injury front is good to see.
It appears Troy Woolfolk is practicing with the # 1 unit as of Tuesday, and he should be on the field Saturday with the starting D.
Cam Gordon and Brandon Herron both warmed up, but did not take part with the 1st and 2nd units. It appears Gordon will likely not be starting this week .. maybe he will see sometime in a reserve role as he works his way back to full strength?
Ricky Barnum did not practice, is listed as uncertain, and IMO he will likely not play this weekend.

I hope Barnum and Woolfolk both get some much needed rest. Cam and Herron do not need to play this game either.
If Cam continues to be injured, I almost hope he gets a medical redshirt this year. Obviously, this depends on the length of time he continues to be held out.

A redshirt wouldn't do Cam much good. He already took a (presumably non-injury) redshirt.

Can't you be granted a sixth year of eligibilty due to injuries? Someone explain it to me.

A 6th year medical redshirt is sometimes granted, but it's one of those things where the workings of the NCAA are completely mysterious. It generally seems to happen to players who suffer catastrophic injuries (ACLs, Prothros, etc). I'd be surprised if it was granted for what seems to be a series of nagging injuries.

Yes, but only if you missed two seasons due to documented injuries.

A player can Redshirt, and then play a 6th year through a medical redshirt. But, to gain a medical redhsirt, the injury must prevent the player from playing for more than 1 season.

did not miss more than one season. He got hurt last year and was granted a sixth year this year. You sir are mistaken.

How do you explain Joel Figueroa getting a sixth year at Miami this season when it appears he took a regular redshirt in his freshman year (2006) and wasn't injured until the 2010 season? See also his bio here, which says this about his freshman year:
2006 (REDSHIRT): Redshirted as a true freshman, but impressed the coaches with his work on the scout team.

The issue in the linked articles on Keenum and Mauk is obviously whether or not the first redshirt is voluntary, not whether or not it's injury-related.

was for the NCAA's amusement. They wondered exactly how many tries he needed to pass his Comp II class.

Hmm, I wonder how Gardner's back is doing this year...
