OT - Sinking of the M-Hat
So I was photographing on the Detroit River the other night. It was a little on the windy side and I was a little worried because it was similar to the conditions that I lost my M-hat last year. And once again....my M-hat goes flying into the Detroit River near Belle Isle. I thought I could get it with a stick and I almost found myself in the river as the rocks were mossy. Oh well. This time...pictures though.

So now the decision...do I get myself another "Bo" style hat or do I get with the times?
“If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.”
I'm picturing a Canadian fisherman at the mouth of the St. Lawrence getting your M hat caught in his net.
A U-M alum out spear fishing in the Caribbean, seeing this hat go by on a fish and thinking to himself, "wherever you go, there really is someone from Michigan."
I'm getting my net out. This is better than Paddle-To-The-Sea.
Nah, I think Jimmy Hoffa is wearing it now.
I recently lost my hat as well. I understand your loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
I had a hat that I was wearing, then went inside and tucked it behind my back, (Navy, can't wear covers indoors). Anyhoo, nature called, and went to do my business...when I was through, forgot that I left the hat tucked behind me. Lost not only to the cruel porcelain god, but also a victim of my own desecration. No way I was putting that back on my head.
When I was around 12, I was at The Igloo watching the Wild play the Pens...When Jagr scored a hat trick I threw my hat on the ice....I instantly started crying because I realized I threw my Michigan hat. My parents felt so bad that they went and purchased me an authentic M football jersey. Hopefully, your outcome will be similar to mine. Better things to come? Oh, and no doubt, classic Bo for the new one.
As a sailor, I spend a lot of time on the water, wearing hats, so I can understand your pain. I've been lucky enough to be able to retrieve all hats that I have lost. I usually wear a visor when I'm sailing during the summer anyway.
Congrats on the new hat. I have become partial to maize hats, as my last two Michigan hats have been maize. Like deep navy blue hats that fade to an almost denim color, the bright maize hats become a soft, pale yellow, while still maintaining their bright charm. My current hat, which is getting close to retirement, was on sale (Nike hat when Michigan had just switched to adidas) in the Union during my Freshman move in day, and my parents bought it for me then. People have also noticed that it's nice that they can identify me in a crowd, or when they're watching me race boats out on the water.
