Scoreboard Update
Well, it looks like progress is finally being seen -- major panel is craned off as of 9:06am EST.
I'm interested to see what the plans are. If they are giong to use the structures already in place of if they are going to remove everything, including the cement foundation, and start over again.
Either they're disassembling the current scoreboard, much like a puzzle and then taking off the main back panel or they're keeping the main panel and installing a new screen on the old scoreboard. I'm guessing they're disassembling the old one and installing an entirely new scoreboard. We shall see.
I wouldn't think they would scrap the current foundation. If they were, there's no way it would be done by the Spring Game. Most likely they are going to disassemble the current scoreboard, as we are seeing, and assemble the new one on top of the existing supports, possibly even reinforce the supports depending on the new scoreboard loads.
I seriously cannot wait to see what the new scoreboards look like.
I wonder if they expect them to be done by the spring game? There's a good month +change left until the spring game, I can't imagine it would take very long to put these up. It's a pretty exciting thing considering fans have been wanting this change for a while now. But I guess we shall see.
I'm really scared to ask but i will do it anyway.. how long do you watch that feed a day?. I know we all like to pass the time and mess around on here but I'm really hoping you don't have that up for more than 10 seconds a day.
For about as long as it took for you to post a time-wasting comment about it.
Which is worse? Him actually watching it, or you commenting on a thread he made about himself watching it and then proceeding to worrying about how he spends his day.

I've already gone through two bags of popcorn while watching this thing.

He said not more than 10 seconds, you're all good.
Is it a flaw in one's character to find pleasure watching a scoreboard being disassembled? I keep telling myself that my degree is in engineering and it is justified, but I know that is a lie.
No disassemble, scoreboard 5 alive.
Half of engineering is taking something else apart then replacing a few parts and putting it back together and making it work.

+1 for the Short Circuit reference. That made me laugh.

Absolutely not (or if it is, I have the same flaw). My favorite days as a kid were when my dad would bring home old hard drives from work and let me take them apart. Those magnets were dangerous, especially the ones from the huge old drives. Many a blood blister from getting lazy and accidentally pinching my fingers.
I seriously hope they do a complete replacement.
It's sort of like having a $20 million house, spending another $5 million on renovations over the last two years, only to leave the damn 27-inch projection TV in the living room.
Time for some serious HD.
As long as the TV does not say Budweiser on it I will be fine.

To be specific.
i hope it has the a brick back with maybe a lighter brick M in it.
What do you think?
Must see TV

There are people walking around on the scoreboard. Drama, suspense, action. It's got it all.
the game clock.

I was trying to figure out for the life of me what conference was scheduling their tournament games at 9am. I figured it had to feature some bubble teams if we were watching the scoreboard. Apparently I need more coffee.

I present this:

Is this just a guess?

We know there will not be any ads, so take out any room on the top/bottom/ sides for that. There will need to be room for the sound equip, unless it will be added to the new structures. Not sure on that one.
There might be some permanant "Michigan Stadium" on the top as the old socreboards had, but with the video screen capable of displaying anything, it would be possible that the front would just be one giant video screen.
So yea, just a guess.

I think they have to replace the supports or at least reinforce them. I remember DB saying a while back that the current supports could not support the new scoreboard. I'm not sure if that has changed though.
There's two little dudes working in the upper section of the innards of the scoreboard. The main screen is still attached but everything else is off. It looks like they're examining joints or something.
There's a third guy a level lower, partially behind the screen. Yeah, there's a lot of sparks, they're definitely cutting some of the structural joints.
Lame. Why don't they have lights on it so that I can watch at night? Or switch to a night-vision webcam!
