It was painful to watch. Most

It was painful to watch. Most of the team just sat back and expected good things to happen. There wasn't much work out there; it looked like only a few players were trying, and most of those players weren't the ones with As on their chests.

I could see that Merrill was trying at the beginning of the game, but by the end, it seemed like he was exhausted. I imagine he was, since he couldn't do much with the brace on, and he's only had it off for a few weeks. There's a huge difference between what one can do in a no-contact not really practice situation and getting thrown into a game and being expected to play half of it. Every time he came off the ice, he looked wiped out.

It's official

for the rest of the season.

my personal favorite tweet

@ASinelli17 There's a kid named Jonny on our team? #stevethepirate?

Thanks!

Can you add the US NDTP game on Oct. 3 please?

Newphew

Just want to point out that the "Brabbs baby" is actually his nephew. The newphew does have the middle name of Phillip, though.

Dad and sports

Dad and sports go hand in hand with me. I'm glad you did get to go to at least one game with your dad.

Ashley's

I plan on having something on tap at Ashley's tonight. Probably 2 or 3 or maybe even 4. In my mug. It's been one of those weeks.

Update on Max's condition

The Habs say he has a severe concussion and a non-displaced fracture of the C4 vertebrae and will remain hospitalized.

No non-Big Ten schools

There is a rule in the Big Ten that if you join for one sport, you join for them all.

As much as I would love it....

...it just won't work right now.  The Big Ten schools know that they need to grow the sport  or at least keep it at the level it's at.  If they were to split off and form their own conference in hockey right now, too many of the smaller teams wouldn't survive.  Some of these teams are still fighting to survive.  Hockey is an expensive sport.

Make sure your family knows

You need to also make sure your family is aware of your wishes on this.  Your family can still decide not to donate your organs, even if you are registered and have it on your driver's license.

On Fire

Both Merrill and Brown have been playing great at the WJC.  Brown has been playing kind of "meh" this year, so I hope he comes back all fired up and kicked some butt.

Michigan Man

Remember, Merrill committed to Michigan when he was 14 years old.  This is the only place he wanted to play.  I have a feeling he'll be around for a few years if not all four.

Hunwick

Part of why Hunwick has not had the best numbers this season is that the team has not played well in front of him.  We'll be seeing a lot more of him with Hogan out for 4-8 weeks with that groin injury.

Hopefully, the team is also through with their terrible Friday play, too.

Moving

Johnson was moving his hands a little bit on the cart.  Wow, that was a pretty scary hit.

Favre signs

I'm thinking about going and bringing some fun signs:

Brett Favre knows how to use a cell phone

No one cares about Brett Favre

Brett Favre takes pictures of his own penis  (although this one would get me kicked out, I'm sure.)

Wonderful Day

I had an absolutely wonderful day.  The weather was about as perfect as you could ask for.  We had a nice tailgate with friends before our walk across the empty golf course.  (It's kinda creepy when it's empty....especially in the dark.)  We were a little later getting to the game than we wanted (gosh it gets crowded over on the side) so we missed the teams coming out but we saw the B-2.  The game was a lot of fun.  We had students who knew the hockey cheers and dances right by us, which was great.  Even the people who aren't hockey die-hards did pick up the cheers.  The "Goal count Ready" video was a little weird, but it did work.  Just now watching the replay on Big Ten, and you can REALLY hear the croud giving it to Palmisano. The fireworks were fun with most people around us singing and dancing along.  (Brian was sitting 2 rows in front of us, but he left before the fireworks and missed out on the good show.)  As I said earlier, the walk back across the empty golf course was a little creepy, but the post game tailgate was fun and more than made up for it.

To another Michigan victory!  Go Blue!!!

every 4

Brandon said in his post game presser maybe every 4 years....

Most likely

Palmisano will be in goal for State....

I have been so impressed with

I have been so impressed with Scooter Vaughan this year.  He really didn't want to be a healthy scratch all the time again.

practice

I think it's practice.  They practiced Monday from about 3:15-4:15.  Yesterday they were out about the same time, too, doing drills and then it looked like they were playing a game, and then more drills.

Lake hockey

We played on the lake.  I remember one year we lost quite a few pucks because we had no snow to keep the pucks on our rink and they'd go through where the ice edge was (river runs through the lake) and Dad was our hero.  He put on his waders (in FEBRUARY) and went out and rescued pucks from the edge where they'd all fallen in.  He found 12 of the missing 17 pucks.

Seat for the Cold War weren't

Seat for the Cold War weren't that bad (just inside the blue line) but my seats at Camp Randall could hardly have been worse.  At least I was there and didn't freeze too badly.  I'm just so excited for Saturday, nevermind that my seats are probably too low and right on the goal line, so I won't see well.  Outdoor hockey is a blast, and that's what matters.

surprising

It was surprising that the ref didn't blow the whistle.  This all happened right in front of us, and all the fans knew where the puck was.  We didn't realize at first that none of the players had any clue on puck location except for Chad.  It was crazy and beautiful.

Jon Merrill

You have to give Jon Merrill a little more time before expecting him to be a huge physical presence.  He's not quite a Jack Johnson, and he's only 18 years old.  I'm surprised he weighs over 200 lbs.  He looks a lot thinner than that to me.

how do I get some of that?

I do wish I had some of that "Magic Spray" if it actually worked.  Like when I stub my toe really hard after I've had too many beers because I'm trying to drown my why-can't-I-watch-Michigan-win-any-sport-I-follow-this-weekend misery...... (That kegerator while great in some aspects does have some flaws....like now I can drink way too much beer way too easily.)

Also as important

Before you sign up, be aware that donating bone marrow, while a much better process than it was even 10 years ago, is not a painless process.  If you sign up, and are found to be a match, Be The Match and Do The Job!  I read a heartwrenching article a couple of weeks ago about a woman needing a donation.   Four matches were found. All four declined to donate.  The woman died.

Penalties

Penalties really killed us.  I think Wisconsin was 3-6 on the Power Play....

I'm glad there wasn't a

I'm glad there wasn't a shootout.  I'm just not a fan.

4-4 final

Sounds like there were some bad stoppages in play in the OT that hurt Michigan....

4-4 with about 7 minutes left

4-4 with about 7 minutes left in the third.

Penalties

All the penalties are killing us, although they're not really helping Wisconsin either.  The penalty calls on both sides are frustrating.  I wish they'd just let them play.....

FSD

The game will be on Fox Sports Detroit, and includes both pre and post game shows.

That's quite a bit more than

That's quite a bit more than I thought it had.  Wow.  Thanks for the pics.

logistics

There was a pretty decent article on annarbor.com last week that talked about what they have to do, and what they did at Spartan Stadium before the Cold War.

Time Lapse

I hope when it's all said and done they post some time lapse footage of them setting up the rink as well.

And it's gotta be miserable out there in this rain, but at least it's kinda warmish today.

shadowed on purpose

The 3pm start time was set specifically so it would be shadowed.  They didn't want the ice to be in the sun during the game.

FSD

Per mgoblue, it is FSD.

about to get neg bombed

but hey, I gotta be honest here.  What Corey Tropp and Andrew Conboy did was horrible, no doubt about it.  Rick Comley did the right thing and kicked them both off the team.

Corey Tropp wanted to come back, and Comley set some very high goals that Tropp had to meet before he would be allowed back. Tropp worked hard and did everything the coach asked of him and more.  Tropp was truly ashamed of what he had done.  He did earn his way back onto the team and played hard.  I was amazed at his turnaround.  (I also read somewhere that he personally called Steve Kampfer and apologized, but I can't find that article.)

Crazy goals!

A couple of those goals were pretty crazy.  The guys played really hard, especially compared to last night.  Great game, lots of fun.

I also really enjoyed the Johnson chants from the student section.

D

I was thinking the same thing.  The D did their job today.

jersey for game covered

I already made a deal with my husband that I get to wear his Maize block M jersey over my coat for the game.  That's what I wore last year to the Hockey Classic as well.  I think I just want this one for wearing the rest of the time.

I totally dig the Wolverine on it.  He looks sweet....until he rips your head off.

mmmmm......Breakfast Stout......

I'm really looking forward to the Founders event at Ashley's.  I've had it marked on my calendar since they announced it.

Many wives love sports

Take me for example.  What did my WifeDay 2010 involve?  Watching college football most of the day, drinking beer, and then going to the Michigan Hockey game that night.

don't volunteer the wives to watch kids.

So stressful, but so much fun!!!

Way too stressful thanks to the defense and those turnovers, but hey, a lot lot lot of fun.  We had a lot to drink when we got back to tailgate - Goldschläger and Jello shots mostly, but also some really good homebrew.

Ashley's

Finished my World Beer Tour last week, so I celebrated this week with my free mug in their mug club.  Yeah.  I'm feeling pretty good.  I think we can win tomorrow.

Can't Decide

I can't decide if the Intangibles cat is super adorable or beyond scary looking.  As in "I will murder you in your sleep" scary.  I think it's a little bit of both.

That's how I feel going into this game.  The team might just win, somehow, or maybe I will feel like I wish the scary evil looking cat murdered me in my sleep.  Or maybe I'll just leave the game feeling meh and just go back to tailgate and drink some more.

no mgoblue.com video

I'm bummed that there doesn't seem to be any mgoblue.com video of the guys on their trip this year.  The last few years they've had some sort of video diary that I've just loved.

Let's just hope they play well this weekend.  It's a tough road trip, sure, but they need to make a statement (and play well on a Friday night!)

adorable

I can understand why you might disagree with a white kitten, but that is a super adorable kitty.
