Here Comes Treble
Michigan has the uncanny ability to raid the portal in wrestling.
A lot of rival fans really seem agitated with Michigan wrestling and their portal exploits lately. But I don’t care. I wanna see the boys with another trophy for top three in the nation next season
Just read some replies to the cardenas stuff on twitter. I agree that it's weird. Apparently wrestling is supposed to be some sacred sport where we shouldn't use the portal? Why?
I don't have a problem with the portal, I just wish they could recruit and develop guys that can compete for national championships for 4 years instead of getting the one-and-done(s).
I get what you're saying but Mason Parris and the amine's are good counter examples.
Like Mason Parris? Myles and Cam Amine have like 7 all American finishes. Lewan on the podium twice. Ragusin this year
RTC results would argue otherwise, lots of world medalists from our program in Greco/Freestyle.
Rival fans agitated? I'll take that as a positive.
Admission people must like wrestling
All portal ins are good, all portal outs are kthxbyewhatever.
Who is he matched against this Sunday at Mania?
He’s gonna help take down the bloodline
Can Mason Graham mentor him to also play football?
Hell yeah!!
Sorry but Slater wrestled for Iowa….
Incorrect. He went to college at California University and shared a suite with Zack and Screech.
lol at anyone acting like they care about this
Any former wrestler you are trying to indirectly insult on here would probably be glad to meet up with you to chat about it. I kid, of course.
Plenty of people care. I watched a lot more wrestling than ncaa basketball. It is an incredible sport.
100% agree. Can’t get enough NCAA wrestling- amazing.
And… the Wolverines are really good.
As a student I attended more wrestling meets than basketball and Hockey games combined.
If you've never wrestled, you'll never truly know the greatness of the sport
lol any wrestler would kick your ass. And I say that having never even met you
Coach up those spartans that Chandler couldn’t…where did Caleb Fisch land?
Who woulda thought this would be the sport to dominate the portal.
It actually makes sense. At it's core, it is an individual sport.
Transfers from sports that are, in essence, team sports (like football) have to build a feel for team mates - how they react under various circumstances - and learn a whole different system when they transfer. That is not an issue with wrestling.
Part of what makes this big news is that Cornell finished #2 in the nation last year and Michigan just a point behind them at #3. An all-american transferring from the #2 team in the nation to the #3 team in the nation would a huge deal in any sport.
- He's not a transfer. He graduated. Graduate students aren't transfers. The term "grad-transfer" isn't a thing except in rare cases like a PhD advisor takes a faculty job at another school.
- Ivy league schools don't allow graduate students to participate in varsity sports, so he has no choice but to matriculate to another university for his graduate degree if he wants to use his remaining eligibility.
- It is a big deal he chose Michigan. Having great graduate school programs is a structural advantage for UM.
- The reasons it's big news is people are complaining it's bad for the sport because it dilutes mid-majors, and that Michigan is "transfer U." But Michigan hasn't had a well regarded undergrad transfer in since like 2014. The reason Michigan takes guys from Stanford, Northwestern , and Cornell is because it's graduate schools are in the same tier. You could argue Stanford is a leg up in many departments but generally, the graduate school applicant pools are similar. It's very good for graduate students to attend other schools as it broadens their network and enhances employability.
Does any school shower NIL on wrestling? Wondering if that is a thing.
Women gymnasts can make a fair penny which isn't necessarily for the best or the leaders.
No, RTC’s are a big recruiting factor though, gyys who want to compete internationally come for Cliff Keen Wrestling Club, not saying that’s the case here, but often times.
I didn't even know what an RTC was.
All will be right when women give NIL money to wrestlers like LSU fans give to their women gymnasts. /s
I didn't know Cliff was Gerald Ford's "coach" either.
The more you learn.
