Who's going to Indy?

Submitted by Maize in Cincy on

Anyone else going to Indy?  Just booked my hotel for Thursday night.  The wife and I will be out on the town Thursday watching the games.  Looking for recommendations or wonding if anyone wants to meet up.  I was at the regional games a few years ago and the Indy chapter of the alumni association set up a pregame party at an Irish bar I believe, hopefully they do something Friday but with the early game not sure if that is possible.  I would assume most bars will open early for St Pattys day.

If anyone has extra tickets in the Michigan section let me know, ticket office doesn't have any available.

I'll be there Sunday if they win.  It's close enough to Metro D to make a day trip out of and they should be done at a reasonable hour to drive home.  I recall from the BTT a few years ago that Indy has a very visible scalping scene a few blocks around the stadium (there's no legal restrictions).  I'll likely stubhub a ticket last minute (if the fieldhouse can scan mobile tickets) or scalp if I'm desperate.

I usually go to a few Pacer games each year and they are able to scan the mobile tickets.  Also correct that there should be a lot of scalpers right around the arena.  Just an FYI there is a parking garage a few blocks north of Bankers Life (connected to The Winner's Circle off-track betting) that usually has cheap parking ($5-$10).  I could see them raising the prices for this weekend but it's always cheap for Pacer and Colts games, so might be worth a shot.

Our local viewing parties are held at O'Reillys Bar, which is literally kitty-corner from Bankers Life.  Word is the bar itself is opening at 8:00AM since it is St Pattys Day.  Not sure how packed it will be and if an official viewing party can be set up given the day, but I'm sure there will be plenty of M Alumni there before and during the game who couldn't/didn't get tickets.

They did a slight renovation and now have a good number of TVs.  Certainly enough to watch the 3-4 games going on.  I'm not sure what the atmosphere would be for a non-Michigan/Purdue/IU event so if you're looking for a sports atmosphere you may be better served at some of the traditional sports bars.

Bankers Life is a great place to watch games; I usually go to a Pacers game each year, and the view from the upper level is just fine. The arena is relatively compact and much better than Lucas Oil or the old Hoosier Dome. I was going to the games regardless; having M there launched me out of my chair like when Stu hammered that dunk against Tennessee.

Probably will go down to the Joe for a Big Ten Hockey championship run (a guy can dream, right?) and then drive to Indy if Michigan advances to play Sunday.

My husband and I are also going to the game in Indy on Friday.  We're heading over in the morning before the game and are staying overnight downtown.  Looks like you're in Cincy too.  We'd love to know where the Michigan fans are hanging out to connect.  Also, we bought the first session tickets; not cheap but they look good.  Section 103, 4th row.  Figured we wanted to see them play if we're going instead of sitting up high.

If you guys can get into town early enough come on over to O'Reilley's, you would have to leave Cincy real early though to get there in time and find a place to park.  I'd try to park where your hotel is, usually the lots charge by the day so that way you don't have to pay twice on Friday.  We had a Friday hotel put cancelled and decided to priceline one for Thursday.  What part of Cincy are you in?  I'm in Mason.

If the seeding plays out and we play Louisville, it is a short drive from Louisvile to Indy.  We are going to have to work hard to turn the arena blue.
