What the team does in its spare time (spoiler alert -- includes chess tournament)
During the "Bossa Nova Vibe" podcast this week Brian, Seth & David were talking about Cornelius Johnson's reaction to a route running mistake, saying they thought that Johnson had a bit of a nerdy/Ned Flanders personality. In this piece about player's hobbies it turns out that he's the locker room chess champion, which is cool but also doesn't exactly contradict the podcast observation. Anyway, this is an interesting look at what these guys are into when not on field. There's also fishing involved:

It's always good to be reminded that these people who influence so much of our emotions are people first.
I'm curious about the author though. He suggests that Sabb fishes because of living in Florida for a year and despite being from New Jersey. Does the author not know that New Jersey, despite its reputation for cities and highways, has water too, rivers and lakes and the ocean?

They do have water but have you seen a New Jersey Fish?

Fair. But Florida doesn't have any high ground to stand on over New Jersey in the pollution department.

In New Jersey you sleep with the fishes.

Sleep with the fishes, eh?

Excellent sub-thread.

I was surprised to learn from Gus, on Saturday's broadcast, that our OLine likes to golf together. Drake Nugent is the best and shoots in the 90s.

The notion of Michigan football players enjoying golf still gives me deep emotional distress.

FWIW, M put out a "Those Who Stay" series on YouTube that covered a fair bit of downtime.
Cornelius Johnson plays chess
Kris Jenkins watches shonen anime
Mike Sainristil goes bowling
Zak Zinter goes fishing
Blake Corum likes driving around
Michael Barrett loves dogs

Those videos were great.

Now I love Micheal Barrett even more. How is this possible?

In their downtime our team focuses on extracting teeth from the buckeyes one by one with no numbing agent.

I'm pretty sure we left all of the teeth in place. Watching their spirits throughout the game disappear I would say we ripped our a few souls along the way

I spent many hours fishing the Huron River. Upstream from Ann Arbor it has some of the best smallmouth fishing in the state.

Harbaugh tried to pump the breaks.
Oh come on, Daily.

I had the same reaction. I know it's primarily an online medium right now, but it still astounds me when I see so many articles that obviously weren't run by an editor before they were published.

Watching The Game last year, Cornelius Johnson was definitely playing chess while the OSU secondary was playing checkers.

I'd be somewhat interested to see the results of an Mgoboard chess tournament.
