UNIFORMZZZZZ - Men's Soccer Edition

Submitted by MGoBender on

I feel bad that I haven't kept up with the soccer team this year. Ever since the departure of Soony, Meram, Harmoody, it hasn't been the same.

Today I headed over to the official site to find a game I could make.  Then my eyes bled.

That B10 logo is just as big as the block M on the left shoulder.

For the love of God, give me blue. (Coming from a guy who generally loves maize, especially with hockey and basketball - BUT NEVER FOOTBALL).

Soccer uniforms are pretty hard to fuck up. They are the most wearable and stylish of any sports apparel. All you have to do is keep them white and not have the numbers on the back represent a neon light.

Mother of god. Whose idea was it to put block M's in the numbers? Also, I'm noticing a pattern with adidas. In all of the changes to the football (and futbol) jerseys, the sleeves have been tampered with the most. The cleaner the sleeves, the better in my opinion.

Disagree.  Those are the most overrated uniforms.

Why the 2 random blue stripes on the sleeves?  It's just so random and doesn't seem to be thought-out at all, it's like someone at adidas just was like, "You know these sleeves are too blank, we need to add *something*" so they added those just for the sake of adding something.

"Does anyone have an idea for school colors?" "How about olive drab and lime?" "Two shades of green. I like it. Any seconds?" "Second." "All those in favor?" "AYE!" "The 'ayes' have it. It is decided the new school colors are olive drab and lime. Next order of business. What should be the side dish pizza Friday?"

The last jersey--maize with blue stripes on the shoulders and ribs--borrows some from international soccer uniforms. Recent results and historical records indicate the relative strength of soccer in each country. I have seen cricket teams with similar uniform styling (including colors). It's not a bad tradition to draw on.

Placing Block M s in the numbers and other strategic locations--knees?--is easy to overdo. But no Arby's patches. Do not push me too hard, I am a fickle consumer.

Agnostic on the maize sleeves.

I'm all about them having fun with a lot of the uniforms, just not the football home jerseys and the maize basketball jerseys. Hockey has been mixing it up and while they have had a miss or two, they also have made some incredible jerseys. Also, I definitely think they should give Adidas a free reign for the spring game.

Those are very mild for an Adidas soccer uniform... Have you seen the MLS lately?

I was expecting to see 3 stripes running up the sleeves, down the pants, across the socks, across the butt, and everywhere in between.

Just like the basketball team, I'm sure they have a white, maize, and blue uniform that they rotate through depending upon the opponent and the location of the game.

And for the block M's in the numbers, that's been done by several clubs and almost every league across FIFA...

Hopefully by then they will have yellow and blue striped ones like the ones the American soccer players wore!!!!  USA! USA!    kidding....or not.....whatever....I just can't keep up with the uniforms anymore.

uniforms of all M's teams. And traditionally the stripes--to me--were really iconic and appealing. Just seems like continual change is the driver of all this, when the whole thing about tradition, and a school like Michigan, is the constants. The cold cash nexus doing a number on our unis.
