Today's Schedule of Games

College Football is back, Baby!

It's been off to a great start already . . . the Pitt - WVU, Penn State - Purdue, and Indiana - Illinois games were all fantastic.  Let's keep it going.

At Noon on ABC: Colorado State at #8 Michigan.  Let's open up our present and see what we've got here.  We're all very excited and curious to see how the offense looks, and we'll certainly get at least some insight on that, but the real topic of interest toady will be what we look like on defense.  CSU's air raid offense will give us some challenges on where we have the most questions:  At linebacker.  We'll see how well the young / inexperienced LBs hold up and mature.  Michigan will win comfortably, but be prepared, it won't be by holding CSU to single digits.

In the Afternoon at 3:30 on ABC: #11 Oregon at #3 Georgia.  Last year Oregon went on the road and took it to Ohio State in Columbus.  I'm sure Michigan spent some quality time with that film before last November 27th.  Can the Ducks do it again?  Nope.  I was really impressed with Georgia's coaching staff and schemes last year against us in the CFP.  They knew everything we were going to do.  They had counters ready for it.  They had counters ready for our counters.  They could have gotten by on talent alone, but they made sure their team had a coaching and scheme edge as well.  They will have the Dawgs more than ready for the Ducks.

In the Evening at 7:30 on ABC: #5 Notre Dame at #2 Ohio State.  I'll be rooting for Ohio St . . . er, rooting against Notre Dame in this one.  We have no say in what happens to Notre Dame this year.  But we'll certainly get a say in what happens to Ohio State.  Might as well have Ohio State take care of Notre Dame in our place.  But whoever loses, I want it to be in a humiliating, program-destroying fashion that makes them question whether they should even keep playing the sport.

Also in the Evening at 7:00 on ESPN: #7 Utah at Florida.  This is an under the radar game that should be getting more hype.  Utah is for real, but how "for real" are they?  At night, on the road, in the Swamp, first game of the year is a good way to find out.  That would be a tall task for any team in the SEC.  It will be an even taller task for a nouveau Pac 12 team that is trying to emerge as a national program.  I'm thinking the Gators upset them here.

I wish both ND and OSU could both lose. But I don't want ND sneaking into the playoffs. We play OSU and if we take care of business beat OSU, we will easily defeat the west division winner and make it into the playoffs. I don't want to see a 1 or 2 loss ND making the playoffs. A loss against OSU will dash those playoff dreams of ND.

Iowa in a real barnburner with SDSU at the half, 3-3.

Oh, that's South Dakota State, you say, and not San Diego State?

Seeing Iowa score 5 vs a FCS team is kinda amusing, but then you realize that Ferentz is probably keeping like 2 or 3 dagger plays in the backpocket just for the Michigan game so they'll score like 13 against us, and we could easily lose 13-10 to them.

I don't think this game means anything--it's not at all uncommon for Iowa to have at least one bad game against a terrible non-conference opponent. Hell, that 2016 Iowa team lost to North Dakota State.

I was kind of hoping SDSU would come back to win 6-5, but I see Iowa made it look a football score with another safety, 7-3.
