Texas is officially staying in the Big12

Submitted by GoBlueInNYC on

I received the following from Texas's president, Bill Powers, in regards to Texas staying in the Big12:

Dear Colleagues,
I know many of you have been following discussions about our conference affiliation.  I want to let you know that we're announcing that UT will stay in the Big 12 Conference.
There will be a press conference with more information tomorrow at 10 a.m.  Coverage of the press conference will be available at:

 Sincerely,
 Bill Powers
President

As far as I know, this is the first official statement to come out of Texas about them staying in the Big12.

Good.  Now the Big 12 can live...on...with 10 teams...

And we can stay the Big X, where X is the # of teams in the conference.  Still my favorite idea.  Don't know who to credit this to, so if it was you, I'm sorry.

Is the bullshit over now?  I was really hoping to hear how whatever move UT made, they did it because it made sense every way, but with no mention of the financial implications.  Of course, everything is about the financial implications every time, but that is never really mentioned.  When Izzo goes to the Cavs, I'm sure that he will cite every possible reason but the obvious financial ones too.

I don't believe it...If true it's probably just postponing the inevitable.

What happens when another team bolts next week?

Of all the "offical" and/or "sure thing" reports I've heard recently this one seems like the least likely. If they hold it together It just looks like a bandaid on a GSW.

I wouldn't mind if the expansion frenzy ended now and left things as they are.I don't believe that for a second though and the B12 is still ripe for the picking.
