The Snowflake Thread: Coaching

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This one could be exciting....

Here is the thread to discuss in-game coaching decisions, hopefully blunting the number of "Fire Hoke" threads, because yeah, we get it, I think.

and they have to know Hoke is finished. Nuss probably called the best game of the season and he still couldn't generate points or 1st downs at key moments (right before the half was a critically weak series). Gmatt had a poor game. End of 1st half and Cardale's first drive were back breakers. Not up to UM's standard.

Brady fails to make the showcase.

So, who do you hire?

  • Harbaugh (long-shot at best....but still a chance until he says no)
  • Dan Mullen?
  • Butch Jones?
  • Steve Addazio?
  • Dave Doeren?

Hopefully Hackett has a list with 20 to 25 names to consider for the next coach including the current coach.  With outside input he will whittle that list down to just a few names that are realistic to be the next coach at Michigan and successful.

I believe there are 5 to 10 coaches that could be very successful at Michigan.  I hope those names are on his final list and he does everything in his power to make sure one of them is on the sideline next year.

At the end of the first half, we punted from just over midfield with 2:15 on the clock, unfortunately, there was still .15 sec on the clock when Hagerup punted. If he had waited, and punted with the play clock at.01 or called timeout and punted, OSU would have had .15 sec less to work with, and would not have had time to score the tying touchdown right before the half, but would have had to attempt a field goal, thus taking four to seven points off of their score, and keeping the momentum with us through the half.

IF on that same OSU drive Mattison had not dropped into prevent defense and only rushed three guys, but had put some pressure on the Freshman, he might have made a mistake, he was flawless carving up that SOFT defense, they might have saved that same touchdown.

If coach Nuss would have called as agressive play calling in the second half as he did in the first, they might have scored enough points to win this game, instead of getting conservative and running right into their adjustments.

After their QB went down, there was a key play in their zone where Mattison brought two linebackers from the same side in a blitz, but left the other side wide open, so what did Jones do ? He ran to the other side away from the blitz, into our territory, for ten yards and a key first down. If he had blitzed one from one side and one from the other, instead of both standing next to each other blitzing, it is highly likely that one of them would have sacked the QB, and they would not have scored that touchdown to put the game away.

The kids played well enough to win, but they were let down by their coaches, therefore, I say to Brady Hoke and his entire staff, YOU'RE FIRED.

Michigan either makes no halftime adjustments or makes the wrong ones.  They can hang or even lead in the first half but clearly get out coached the second half.

There is no doubt in my mind that UofM has the players.  This game showed they can compete, and win, against a top 10 team, IF the game plan encourages them to be aggressive on both offense and defense.  There were some outstanding performances out there by Uof M players.  I think the returning players will do very well next year, if the new coaching staff is as talented as the players.

@Mark__Snyder: Hoke said there's a regular team meeting Tuesday at 3. He said he expects to be the coach next season. Has no meeting scheduled w Hackett.

How in the world could Hoke fully expect to be the coach next year?

They spend the whole game snapping the ball inside of 5 secs and THEN on the punt before halftime, they punt the fucking ball with 15 seconds on the clock.  OSU scores the tying touchdown with less than 10 sec left. WTF?  Sure they could have run different plays to get down there and score anyway, who knows, but why does our coaching staff have to give them a hand? This fucking nightmare just needs to be over.  There is good enough talent out there all over the football world, and we have it too.  But you can't have this constantly coming up small from the coaching staff game after game.

And tell me how M gets beat on the run game worse AFTER Barrett does down and OSU is in an obvious one dimensional posture?  Sure players make plays, no doubt. But this coaching staff gets schooled by every freakin team they play. And sure the misdirection on the 4 and 1 TD was clever, but really, JMFR was the only freaking guy on the field that read it.

Little things make a big difference at this level, it seems like the game is just too fast for our coaching staff.   They need a permanent time out from this program.

At the end of September 2012, Michigan was 4-0 and ranked. The idea that Brady Hoke would be fired would never had occurred to Michigan Nation. His teams were 23-7 with a BCS win. The collapse of the program has been stunning. Off tackle left for -2 with 7 in the box when Gallon had a 9-yard cushion.

We went to Columbus with very few seniors and played a surprisingly competitive game. It was basically 3 1/2 classes against 5.

Retain this staff and this roster and you will have a stellar defense, good ground game, and likely an improved quarterback situation.

It was 85 scholarship players against 85 scholarship players. It was a fifth year senior QB against a backup redshirt freshman QB (and then a third stringer). Our third year OL are finally playing like redshirt freshmen. Retain Hoke and Funk and you'll never be successful.
