Sam Webb says two of his sources are telling him Harbaugh to Michigan is unlikely

Submitted by Raskolnikov on

"The feeling of two sources that know and talk to Harbaugh (one of which has been actively selling the 49ers coach on the virtues of returning to Michigan) is that he isn’t likely to choose college over the pros.  It’s a sentiment that has grown stronger over the past few days."

While I think Harbaugh would prefer NFL and staying in SF I just can't imagine him going to the Raiders. They are in utter dysfunction and cap hell with poor owner leadership. Also there is no way SF trades him there.

Jim has trade veto power. So, if he wants Oakland they either trade him, or fire him. And Chicago, NYC and Miami are potentially on the menu -- all world class cities. Sorry, I'm not seized with this happening. We should have offered $5M to Les on Tuesday.

If Harbaugh isn't the guy, at what point does the athletic department start spinning us, the fans, in the opposite direction? They must know that there is a huge push for Harbaugh among the fan base. So to avoid a massive letdown, i.e. announcing a new coach only to have the news renounced by a disappointed fan base, how might they accomplish that? Would they pre-emptively say Harbaugh is absolutely not coming? Kind of weird, since neither he nor anyone else was ever announced as an official candidate. Is it dangerous to keep things close to the vest until the coach has been named, and then do they risk the backlash of a fan base who might "blame" the AD for not being able to get the job done? I'm glad I'm not Hackett.

I like Sam but his sources are horrible on this. I believe he gets his info from Singletary and Fred Jackson and neither of them have a clue what's going on. I talked to Al Glick and other donor's who have told me that Harbaugh to Michigan is more than a rumor at this point. Matter of fact unless the 49ers make the Super Bowl or some out of this world offer from another pro team (Chicago) Harbaugh will be here next season.

The heat was turned up in the last 24 hrs with the Beaver story and JH press conference. Seems kind of obvious what's going on here.

This is Harbaugh's version of Aaron Rodgers R-E-L-A-X comments. "Michigan fans: chill out, give me a few weeks to honor my obligations then on to Ann Arbor."

"My bosses are all over my ass about this Michigan stuff. Stop getting me into trouble!"

Smoke screen? This situation has finally gotten to the point where Harbaugh was asked about Michigan in a public setting (press conference).

Tom Beaver's story about Hackett approaching the 49ers ratcheted up the speculation even more last night.

Whether Sam knows it or not, Harbaugh's "people" may have been instructed to 'cool down' the Michigan fanbase to buy a little more time.

Sam has an out either way with the wording in his statement. Also, I listened to WTKA all morning and didn't hear one reference to this "report."

Doesn't that seem odd?

"Do you think Harbaugh likes recruiting?

I don't.  He seems like an NFL guy who wants to draft and sign who he wants."

Strong point. But good with the bad, the pro guys have insane egos and don't follow your every beck and call.

Lot's of misinformation probably going everywhere to mislead and not give anything away.  I am sticking with Jim Harbaugh until "he" says he is not interested.
