Sam Webb on Jabrill Peppers's Background
Sam Webb does a very nice ARTICLE on Jabrill Peppers's background. Many of the general points are known (esp. re: Peppers's dad), but a very worthwhile read all the same. He discusses his commitment freestyle, as well as several deeper matters.
My favorite observation from Peppers re: Michigan's football program?
Michigan provided an ideal mix of all of those attributes, but there was one specific trait that allowed the Wolverines to distinguish themselves tangibly from their opposition. The ability of the players and coaches to connect with Peppers during his early April visit to Ann Arbor was summed up in one memorable statement.
"Real recognizes real," Peppers said afterward.
Thanks for sharing.
My favorite part is where he talks about the number 2 jersey. I was one who wanted to see him in the number 2 but also understand his desire to want to start his own legacy with his number 5. I just love seeing that number 2 patrolling the defensive backfield. Can't wait to see this kid on the field next season!
Me too. The main issue with the Legends jerseys is by changing over to the new # as a jr or sr they do not allow anyone to create a new Legends jersey (#)! Again lets not put the horse in front of the cart but it would be nice for JB (or anyone) to be good enough to start a tradition with a new #.
Maybe it's just me but I thought this was Damon Webb on Peppers, like maybe a quote from the NFTC camp last weekend. You may wish to add Sam to the title, or I could just be weird. Thanks for sharing either way...good stuff.
Whenever I see "Webb" juxtaposed with anything having to do with University of Michigan recruiting, I always think it is going to be Sam.
Much maligned golfer Ty Webb?

Do you do drugs, Danny?
If it would've been Webb: I instantly would've thought Sam Webb. Because the : typically means "reported by..." ESPN: Rothstein: Webb: ...however, the way it read made me think it was a recruit, in this case, Damon.

I did the same thing...however, I agree with the majority on this one. Webb is Sam Webb, our bad.
Glad I'm not the only one though!
To me, Webb on recruiting = Sam Webb. But enough other folks have given you a lukewarm amen to move the needle. (I generally try to be as concise as possible when posting a new topic on the board, since headline real estate is valuable there!)
You're not alone; I did the same exact thing. Nowadays with recruits having such easy access to each other (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, camps, all-star games) and the press it often generates, I think it's more and more important to be specific.
Then again, no harm done.
In a way, it is very similar to what Hand said in an article posted several threads below about how his favorite staff was Michigan because, in his words, "what you see is what you get". This staff does not put up any sort of front and the players are an extension of the "family atmosphere" around the program - they are who and what they are and they represent Michigan incredibly well. It is great to see that this is a key reason that many recruits in the class chose Michigan when they could have easily gone elsewhere.
Excellent article and very moving. Thanks for sharing this.
Honestly, even if the results on the recruiting trail weren't as amazing as they have been, I'd be happy about how the staff conducts themselves based on this. It's nice to have a staff that we can confidently say aren't slimey used car salesmen - they tell it like it is and let Michigan sell itself. It's really saying something about the state of college football that an honest approach is the exception rather than the rule.
...a lot of us were worried about whether Hoke could recruit.
Urban will have to start taking notes and try to come off less as a slimey used car salesman and more as a family man coach. Lucky for us the hardest thing to fake in life is NOT being fake. Ha, Real recognize real.
For those of you not aware, that was the name of the agent in Jerry Maguire who talk all of Maguire's clients at the beginning of the film. At the end, when it was clear Tidwell had real love for (and hugged) Jerry, Sugar tried to hug one of his clients whose reponse was "get off me". I can't help but wonder if that is where this is going.
I thought Damon Webb was on Pepper's Twitter background and someone was insinuating that we were going to get a "flip" of the Cass Tech product.

"That's my man," exclaimed Peppers. "I told him that a great D-line makes a great DB. 'I need you, and you need me. I'm going to lock the guys down so you can get your sack on, and you put some pressure on that quarterback so I get my pick on.'
There has to be a better way to refer to pressuring the QB than "getting your sack on." It sounds like Peppers wants him to T-bag the QB.
In my mind, that would be completely worth the 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty. BONUS: watching a B1G ref give the call with a teabagging motion.
And "getting your pick on" conjures memories of the disgusting 1st grader in class who constantly was rooting around in his/her nose.
These are minor issues, though. What a great background story on Peppers.
Great article by Sam Webb and the fact that Jabrill wants to create his own legacy with the #5 jersey, shows this kids got some swagger.
...he takes #2
