OT - Tigers / Justin Verlander
Verlander, coming off a no-hitter, kept his no-hit streak going for another 5 2/3 innings today before finally giving up a hit. Tigers lead 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th.
Altogether, Verlander pitched 15 2/3 consecutive no-hit innings, spread over three starts. Johnny Vander Meer in 1938 remains the only pitcher to throw two straight no-hitters. I wonder if anyone since then has come closer than JV did tonight.
Verlander is nasty.
when he became a real ace, JV ranks 2nd in WAR behind only Roy Halladay.
he's just so locked in. Ever since Jack
<br>Morris called him out for trying to strike out too many batters he's been on fire.
is hard core filthy. His bender is awesome.
Huge series this weekend too so it's nice to get that first win. Here's hoping this turnaround is for real.
Verlander, Scherzer, and Porcello are all nasty. Coke however is absolute trash... Bring up the young blood already...
is trash is a bit much. You're probably judging by the 4.54 ERA, but ERA doesn't teach you much. He has a FIP of 3.84. This is a much better indicator of how good a pitcher has performed. Also, he has a LOB percent of 60. This is low for any pitcher and bound to improve based on the law of averages. For a 4th starter, he's pretty acceptable.
It's not even like 4.54 is this really bad ERA. I remember when the Tigers would have a whole starting rotation of guys that wish they had that for an ERA.
Totally almost dated one of Verlander's cousins. No joke. Didn't work out though.
by Cy Young pitched 25 1/3 of no-hit baseball in 1904
I have no imagine Verlander is in the top 5 since Vandermeer if not leading.
Verlander is ridiculous. It's sad the Tigers haven't produced as much as their talent has indicated in the past few years. Here's to hoping they make a run, if only for JV's sake.
I don't recall him beating a number 1 from a really good team head to head since he came up. He's a great talent who bludgeons weak or average hitting teams, but he isn't in that Halladay, Sabathia, Beckett level of aces.
This might be the most retarded post you've made yet , and that's saying something. The dude just had a stretch where he faced 51 batters without allowing a hit.
He faced a prime number. That is unacceptable.
Disagrees
end of story
I think this year he'll finally establish himself alongside Felix, Lincecum and Halladay. He's not there yet though.
Not as good as Josh Beckett????
stop and think too. Beckett isn't even the Red Sox best pitcher. That award goes to Jon Lester.
Have you watched baseball in 4 years? This is like the list of aces from years ago. Granted a couple of those guys are still solid, and Halladay is still one of the best in the game, but Beckett? Seriously?
Mark Buehrle pitched 15 consecutive PERFECT innings in July 2009.
