OT: Fantasy Football Draft Targets

Submitted by SwitchbladeSam on August 22nd, 2019 at 4:10 PM

With OT season coming to an end and many of us having our fantasy football drafts in the coming days, I thought I'd take this final opportunity to see who the board is targeting in their drafts this year. Who do you guys like for sleepers/values/breakouts? Any draft strategy you would like to share? Who is going to win you your league?

Some of my targets:

QB-

I normally don't take qb's until later in the draft.  My value pick here is Jared Goff. Like Shea, he has 3 top options at wr and a young innovative coach behind the offense. I just don't see how he doesn't put up big #'s this year.  I also think Cam has a bounce back year and like Josh Allen for my sleeper.

RB-

Would love to have 2 of James Connor, Dalvin Cook & Kerryon Johnson on my team. I hope to take a chance later with David Montgomery or Miles Sanders.  Damien Harris is another rookie to keep an eye on. Plenty of value for Justin Jackson late if Melvin sits for an extended time.

Wr-

Davante Adams would be my first choice. I really like T.Y. Hilton and Robert Woods.  Curtis Samuel (I'm sorry. You can neg me for this) is my breakout for wr's this year.  I like Donte Moncrief & Michael Gallup late in drafts.

TE-

I don't really see myself drafting a TE until late this year.  Besides Kelce, I'm just not excited about anyone. Maybe Vance in the mid rounds? I could use some help here.  Also, this got me thinking... anyone have an update on Butt?

Who you guys/gals got?

Doesn't matter.  If I get the #1 RB, WR and QB, they'll all go out with injuries and I'll still finish in 7th place out of 10 teams.

I have had one of, if not the best team, almost every year and by mid-season I'm playing backup RBs as my 1s etc.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who this happens to.  I was prepared to not join our league again this year after years of frustration and bad luck.  But I caved and upped for another year.  Coincidentally (or not) I got the #1 pick in my division.  But as you say, doesn't matter.  Whichever RB or WR I pick will get suspended or injured in the 2nd game.  Last year it was Leonard Fournette.  Who will it be this year?

Jake Butt is back practicing, I believe it was announced yesterday he was participating on the field again.

A late sleeper I have seen is Desean Jackson seems to fall. Could be a boom or bust flex option now that he is back with Philly.

Mark Ingram is getting drafted in the later rounds but is the starting back for Baltimore who is super run heavy.

Kareem Hunt is suspended for a chunk of the season but should be considered a late pickup. Especially for a playoff push. He will have fresh legs.

Josh Gordon is back. He will go semi early 4-6 round but he is a monster when not high.

I definitely agree with OP that Curtis Samuel should have a solid year. Miles Sanders is interesting with Jordan Howard there. Will probably put up more numbers as the season goes on.

DJ Moore could also have a solid season for Carolina?

Depends on when you get to pick.  #1-3 are easy- top 3 RB.  Then...what to do about Zeke.  Adams or Hopkins?  Joe Mixon?  Good rbs on bad teams make me worried.  Lots of interesting choices this year.

One of my 2 leagues has a Superflex this year.  Might make drafting a bit more interesting....

I would wait until late late late in the draft to get a QB. To me it makes a ton of sense to have both Kyler Murray and Lamar Jackson, both prolific on the ground and at least one of them is going to hit (I think/hope).

After going week to week last year hoping Dalvin Cook would get unleahsed, I'm not falling for that again...hell no.

(He'll of course go for 1800 yards and 14 tds + 4 receiving tds)

As a dynasty player embarking on a few redraft leagues next week, I can tell you with all the conviction in the world that you should own all the guys I own and that if you don't your team is clearly in a 5 year rebuild and you should trade me all your guys for draft picks.

It's good to have a strategy I guess but has it ever worked out for you in a draft?  I've planned picks and targets out before...then all my guys are gone way before I expected.  Then I start talking myself into some guy not on the list, then I panic and make a terrible pick.

Darren Waller is a guy you may want to target for a TE that no one should know about. I follow the Raiders pretty closely, and he’s been a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenses since camp started. There is a reason why we let Jared Cook walk without offering him a contract. I thought I was in the clear with Waller for my draft until Hard Knocks did a feature on him last episode pretty much saying how underrated he was going into this season.

Some TEs: I'd skip Kittle and Ertz and get OJ Howard if you're looking for one in the first five rounds. If you're looking later, MacDonald, David Njoku, and Mark Andrews are good picks.

Some guys that are good value who haven't been mentioned: Damien Williams (KC RB), Christian Kirk (AZ WR), Dede Westbrook (Jville WR), N'Keal Harry (NE WR), Anthony Miller (CHI WR). Lots of WR value late this year.

Barkley, Kamara, McCaffrey should be the 1.2.3. Followed by Mahomes, Elliott, David Johnson, Le’Veon Bell, Todd Gurley, James Connor, Deondre Hopkins to round out top 10.

I have the #1 pick this year. Leaning Saquan there with CMC option 1B (Kamara is being kept).

At the 2-3 turn I am looking at a top WR (Evans, Keenan Allen) and likely another RB (Founette, Gordon, DWilliams, Cook if he drops). I want nothing to do with AB this year.

At 4-5 turn, likely targeting receivers (Godwin, Woods, Cooks, Diggs)

6-7 is looking like TE (Henry) and another RB (James White).

And of course, this entire strategy will be gone 1 round into the draft.
