OT: Evolution of the Florida Gators Offense
Interesting read. It looks like the Gators will be adding more and more pro style formations into their offense in the coming years. WVU is, supposedly, moving in that direction as well.

I think our offense will look more like Oklaholma or Missouri than WVU when all is said and done.
Agreed. We got too much talent at WR to run the ball like WVU did.
True; but a valid counter argument would be that we'll see plenty of (Bubble) Screen passes.
I do agree that we will be much more run pass balanced in the future than WVU considering our WR recruiting, tates passing acumen and the belief that RR will evolve his offense sufficiently. However I would imagine us looking more like Oregon(my favorite spread) in the future than OU or Mizzou. We incorporated a fair amount of read-option last year even when our personnel was extremely ill-suited for this type of attack. I think this zone read will continue to be the focus of our run-game and even our pass game w/ all the play action possibilites. OU, even after RR consulted w/ stoops about the use of a TE in a spread, will be way more pro-style, I think, than we will ever be under RR, atleast in the near future.
Why would Urban Meyer change what he has done so well for so long? It seems a little bit strange to me. Perhaps down the road Urban might want to try his luck in the league?
to do with having a new offensive coordinator. Dan Mullen is now the HC at Mississippi State. He called the plays as QB coach while at Utah under Meyer and then became OC at Florida.
Actually it also has a lot to do with recruiting. Meyer is able to sell the pro sets to more pro-style people. After all, De'Joshua Johnson (4 star WR from Pahokee) eliminated both us and Florida because he had been told "spreads don't get you to the NFL".
Others have said it's just a way to keep the SEC on it's toes, etc.
EXACTLY.
If you tell a recruit with NFL aspirations that you're doing more to showcase their NFL talents, then they'll prefer you that much more.
That said, with the Wildcat and Shotgun being used a bit more in the NFL, things may change.
it will be interesting to see mullen and meyer apart - including the directions they take their offenses
Don't get too caught up in preseason fluff. Every team is going to get more "aggressive" when they talk to reporters in the off season. If a team runs a bunch they say they are going to be more balanced and pass more. If they pass a ton they say they want to get a ground game going(ok maybe not Leach), but when these coaches get in the mosh pit and the shit starts flying they go with what works. WV @ Colorado was a perfect example..nothing was working so they just went aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...run White, run White, run White!!!!!
I was a big Nebraska fan growing up and loved the option attack, but you would hear every year how they were going to pass more and it didn't happen.
The bigger problem for these teams trying to be spread option and be balanced with a sophisticated passing game is that those QB's don't grow on trees. Most 4.5 runners just aren't that good of passers so while it may sound good on a chalkboard execution is tougher. Please see WV in 08. Pat White threw the ball better and more often but the offense struggled thru huge stretches so did that benefit the offense and team in whole??
Tebow is a better passer for the college game than people give him credit for so I think it will work out better for Florida, but mark my words if it's the 4th quarter and they have a 3rd and 3 against Georgia and they are trailing. They'll be in shotgun and Tebow will be running off tackle. The Loefller influence will be more evident when they play Coastal Carolina.
