It's kind of interesting that the article says that he was recruited by Lloyd Carr in 2007.  While Cissoko committed to Carr, he had to be convinced by Rodriguez to stick with Michigan and actually sent his LOI to Rodriguez in February '08, not Carr.

Yes, that is interesting.  Usually in articles of that type they mention the transition (e.g., "... recruited by Lloyd but signed after RichRod took the job...").  Whose is he?  It's not as clear cut as it would be with, say, Ricky Barnum.

But, remember the other paper in town.  Do you think they'd mention Lloyd?  Nope -- Boo Boo would most likely be "one of RichRod's first recruits."  (Response of Family Values crowd: "See!  He was flawed from the start!")

Anyway, I hope the guy can get his life back on track.

When one coach has had a kid punted for drug bs and a player like dd get all of the news he got, it would be disingenuous to not point out this isn't same ol rodriguez or whatever but instead a player both old and new wanted that didn't work out. Its inclusion illustrates giving a reader a developed understanding of the issue and not a bs surface level feed

When did I say it was "irrelevant"?  I didn't.  Don't put words in my mouth.

And it's not giving a reader a "developed understanding."  Saying he was recruited by Lloyd Carr is as "undeveloped" as saying he was recruited by Rich Rodriguez.

Besides, I didn't say it was a bad thing.  I just said I found it interesting, partly because it's the Detroit News.  As someone else said, if it was the Free Press, the article probably would have said "Rich Rodriguez recruited Cissoko."

That stating a fact, negative or not, about Rich gets this type of reaction. It's more disturbing when you consider the fact stated wasn't a knock against Rich; just a clarification of data left out. Could have easily gone the "just recruited by Rich" way. And been equally wrong. I thought the point was pretty clear. But I also think there's some Lemming effect. People see the trend (negative and positive), and jump on the arrow bandwagon. Without reading it and thinking for themselves.

But I think your original post can be perceived as sounding anti-RR.  I understand it isn't but it does kind of come across that way.

Me personally, I don't really find it too interesting.  I mean, Boo Boo really liked Michigan because of Carr.  RR needed to convince him to stay.  My guess was that the paper was attempting to make it sound like not all bad things are due to RR being there recruiting a bunch of bad guys.

I genuinely feel bad for the kid.  I am sure he merited being kicked off the team, but, one cannot help but imagine that the kicking set the chain of events in place for this downward spiral that he is now

I think that the chain of events started before he was kicked off the team... and necessitated it. However I agree, losing that support system could have had 1 of 2 effects. He could have said "Damn! I need to get my act together", or he could have continued to spiral.

Looks like it was the latter

Boo Boo got torched in the ND game over and over again. Once or twice he would knock the ball away and then he would pose and talk sh*t. It was like Roy Williams celebrating a first down when the Lions were down 28.

Stern and authoritative.

Although once I read it...so?  Was it that he wasn't a savior-player, and he acted like talented teenagers usually do?  I thought that was common knowledge, and don't really see how it applies here.  It's still a bummer when a kid who had a great opportunity spirals like this.

Screw the sanctions or on the field stuff, in my opinion, the fall of this guy or Feagin is the low point of the last few years. Just sad to see.

accounts Cissoko was a sheltered kid in High School and apparently he was savy enough to get good grades at a pretty good High School.

I do wonder what was the thing that tipped the scales for him to start a criminal life.  I know when I was his age and money was tough to come by I got a second job.

Anyway it's a sad sad tale of a young man that lost his way somehow.  My wish is that in a couple few years we get a chance to a erdepmtion story on ESPN or the BTN about how he's reclaiming his life and helping other young people turn their life around.

I am waiting for a certain "writer" to write about how this is all RR's fault for not being more like Saint Dantonio and giving him another "second chance."

county time, depending on his prior record, but a short prison stint looks like a real possibility. Really bad situation.  I think everybody had high hopes for him, the bottom fell out quickly.

This isn't sad.  This is pathetic.  I don't feel bad for Boo Boo I think that he threw his life away.  He had everything going for him.  Opportunity came knocking at his door and instead of answering the door he decided to shoot the messenger.

I guess you could say that I do feel sad for Boo Boo in that he's such an idiot.

MGoJen

What's sad is that he has demonstrated a pattern of destructive behavior that is usually indicative of greater personal problems than "getting caught up with the wrong crowd".

My 28 year-old sister is bipolar and has battled addiction for thirteen years.  She's currently serving a jail sentence for a crime she committed as a direct consequence of her illnesses. (Addiction is a disease but that's a different topic.)

As I've said several times here, human beings have a tremendous capacity for change--I pray Cissoko uses this as an opportunity to get the help that he needs and to rebuild his life.  It's obviously a very personal issue to me, but I think we would all be better served praying for this troubled young man than focusing on how "stupid" he is and how much he "lost out on".

Judging by my all my neg's, u folks here are upset by my accidental use of the bold button & sounds like most of you wanted to give Boo a third or a fourth or a fifth chance. Pathetic is the right word. This guy had every opportunity to make it and now you idiots feel sorry for him?

Go light your freakin' candles for Feagin and BC

But also for not saying anything relevant.  Basically all you said is that Boo Boo got torched by ND so why should we care.  Look, if you think it's only as simple as Boo Boo had the world handed to him and he threw it away, then you're missing a lot.  But to relate other people's feelings on the situation to whether or not he played well on the football field is just as ignorant.

I agree he didn't earn another chance, and there was a tipping point where he needed to go.  I wish he could have landed on his feet and cleaned up his act.  It's sad he didn't.  It happens and I hope our correctional facilities work for this man as theu so seldom do for others.  I hope this with essentially all criminals, whether or not they played for us, or got picked on by very good ND WRs.

And your first post had nothing to do with what you just said.  Now you're complaining about being negged, which will get you further negged.  So I guess there's that.

umich_fan1

I was originally trying (poorly it seems) to note the correlation between his attitude on the field and his criminal behavior off the field. My guess is that he was disciplined a few times by the coaching staff that didn't get leaked to the media. I didn't intend to say that well, he got burnt by ND WR's, so I am happy he is going to jail. I meant that the ND game was a game that I remembered where he displayed very questionable character on the field. Frankly If I didn't want to get negged a bunch of times, I would just post all the time about how great Bo was....So neg on.

M-Wolverine

And didn't get bombed. You originally said "Ha, he was a sucky cocky football player..."...so what? He got what he deserved? For the crimes he committed, sure. Because he wasn't tall or fast enough? THAT'S why you got slammed.

I don't want to say that I feel sorry for him because afterall he messed up his own life.  Except that I do.  I hope he gets his life turned back around.

"I had a pellet gun, when he pulled up in the back of the building," Cissoko, 22, testified about robbing a taxicab driver April 18 in Ann Arbor. "I put the gun in his face.

To be fair, he decided to abort the robbery. That said, when you pull a gun on someone while committing a crime, you've gone past the point where you deserve any sympathy, regardless of what's going on in your life.

"I was going through a tough time, and what I did was bad," Cissoko testified.

Hopefully he serves his time, gets out for good behavior and ends up doing something positive with his life. You guys can call him pathetic all you want, the crimes were indeed pathetic, but hes owning up the them and I hope he learns from his mistakes and turns his life around.
