November 22nd, 1969 on BTN right now, if anyone is interested. I have never watched the game the whole way through. It was, after all, played about eight years before my birth.

There was color tv back them, just most people still had black and white. Technology caught on a lot slower back then as people were less willing to mortgage everything just to keep up with the Jonses. Credit cards hadn't even been invented yet.

I was 4 months old when this game was played. Had never watched the game before now.

I can't help but think about it when about a third of the offensive plays don't have a wide receiver.  They still pass more than I expected, so it's not complete stone-age football.

I think I just saw someone smoking in the stands

I'm watching . . . wife and kids are in bed, nothing else worth watdching on TV.  It's my duty to watch the game that put Bo and Michigan FB back on the map.

This is the game that made me a Michigan fan.  I had just graduated from high school and was trying to avoid the draft.  My dad was a big OSU fan.  I started rooting for the Wolverines because they were such big underdogs and to piss him off.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Hard to watch.

For as much as I love reading about Bo and Woody as personalities, their games in the 10-year war are pretty hard on the eyes for someone who has seen nothing but pro and spread formations. I'm sure that Michigan (and OSU) had a lot of long and exciting plays when pounding other members of the Little 8, but when they met each other, it was a stalemate.

Removing yourself from the drama and suspense everyone must have been feeling at the time leaves the games to their aesthetic qualities, which are quite minimal seen through today's prism.

Among other things, I was in charge of the out of town scores. I had a big black drum and put all the teams in white letters on the drum. Then using an ap ticker, I put up the numbers next to the teams. Then on breaks I would slowly turn the drum and a camera would superimpose the scores on the screen. FWIW, the ABC crew was almost as excited as the Michigan fans.

In 1968 OSU destroyed Michigan and won the NC. The 1969 game was supposed to be no different. I had a bad experience with an alcoholic football coach in high school so I didn't attend and games at Michigan until someone gave me tickets for this game. He didn’t want to watch the slaughter. The excitement among the fans grew and grew as Michigan kept surprising OSU.

We had bad seats near the field in the end zone in the student section. My roommates and I were sophomores. At the end of the game our bad seats turned out good as we among the first rushing onto the field and we helped tear down the goal posts. The OSU players were stunned and had a glassy look in their eyes. It was awesome.

Went to every game after that. Even had season's tickets for two years when I lived in California. Too many kid obligations here now on Saturdays to make it over for games but this game is always sweet. Your first one always is.
