Nike: Two more apparel sneak peeks

Another thing that caught my eye is the backround, is that supposed to symbolize the Michigan Union?

Totally agree, I'm a guy who even takes it to the extreme--my staple "MICHIGAN" t-shirts I like don't even have the slight curved lettering--I just like the straight across block look.  Essentially the same t-shirt that's been on sale for a good 20-30 years now.

However, I was just now looking at the items available online from Moe's.  We need to consider that Nike won't be the ONLY brand making Michigan gear--it's just the marquee brand that is replacing Adidas.

I could be wrong, but I think that many of the basic classic "staple" items that we are talking about weren't made by Adidas at all (and therefore may not be made by Nike either).  The basic short & long sleeve t-shirts and sweatshirts for example I think are made by Champion.   Some of the classier/basic polo shirts and sweatshirts are from Cutter & Buck.

I'd doubt that any of those would change just because Nike is now on board.  Maybe the "maize" color from these other less-marquee brands would change?  Or would the Athletic Department require that any new wordmarks or block M design be consitent throughout all apparel brands, with Nike being the lead dog and others like Champion & Cutter & Buck being required to follow suit?

I have no idea, but as a guy who is very vanilla when it comes to my Michigan gear preferences, my hope is that these Nike previews are just showing some of the most unique items they have in terms of both design as well as function.  Either Nike will of course have the classic basic block M hats or "MICHIGAN" block letter t-shirts with zero logos, or they'll leave that basic staple wardrobe for Champion, Cutter & Buck, etc. to fill that need.

That's from the old run. I have a photo of that hat you're talking about but didn't post it.

And give me a break. Our logo M has basically been around since they began awarding letterman jackets. All it is is a perfectly shaped version of it.

It made its debut on the field in 1982.

As an addendum to my earlier post, if you want to spend an arm & a leg on "classic" or "subtle" looking Michigan apparel, the M Den also has that over-priced but very nice shop next door on State Street--"The Victors Collection".  A ton of very subtle & classic t-shirts, fleeces, etc.:

None of it will be Nike, so I doubt any of that inventory would change significantly with the Nike rollout.
